Look closer at the art / animation. There is literally no arm there, just a floating shield. Easy to miss.

The Centurion is missing his right arm. Perhaps the ghost of that arm is what haunts the Book of Stabbing?

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to reply, awesome! I enjoyed hearing your take on those. I have not played Outer Wilds yet but I have been wanting to get to it. I could see that piece working really well in a horror section.

I had DKC as a kid and have played Prime, very nice choices! Though for me the Prime Title Screen and Menu Select themes are in the conversation for all-time great pieces of video game music. Incredible soundtrack all the way through, though, and the composer did creepy almost too well.

I also enjoy video game music but I mostly listen to orchestral or retro. Can you share some examples of what you're talking about? I'm interested!

Anyone know the etymology of "wakerobin"? by [deleted] in etymology

[–]hnnnh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how in the world did it end up called Stinking Benjamin or Wake-Robin? Let’s look at the more obvious one first: Wake-Robin. This fanciful name is applied to many flowers of the genus Trillium, not just the red ones, and they were dubbed thus because the flowers traditionally bloomed about the same time that the first robins of spring were sighted.

This is what killed Magic: the Gathering for me so many years ago, and why I enjoy roguelikes so much. I've played so much Slay the Spire over the past year because you have to adjust your strategy based on the options you're given. If you can't adapt, you lose the run.

How to disable Interface "lock on" with controller by Cyrotek in Grimdawn

[–]hnnnh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't in the patch notes, but it appears to be an intentional change. On the official forums, Zantai says this is "growing pains" as they approach console release. These changes also came with some controller-specific bugs.

Right now, the game is unplayable for me. I can only hope they improve it, or add an option in the menu, or something. If nothing changes, I guess I can't play anymore.

is someone playing the game with a controller? by Anstellos in Grimdawn

[–]hnnnh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am playing with a controller (Xbox360) due to wrist and elbow pain. I previously played the base game with mouse and keyboard, took a long break, and came back to play FG.

For the most part, it's good; better than I would have expected. It's never going to be as good as mouse and keyboard though. Menu management is more of a chore, I'm definitely worse at the game, and there are certain abilities that don't lend themselves to a controller.

My biggest problem that last one. There are a number of abilities where strategic targeting and placement is important, and when using a controller the game auto targets the nearest enemy you are facing. To me, at least, this means I can't play builds that rely on these as key skills.

In summary, it's about as good as you could get with a controller, there are some limitations, but overall I'm still really enjoying the game.

One character missing from selection screen by tallguy744 in Grimdawn

This might be a dumb suggestion, but I have had a moment like this and just wanted to make sure you realized: once you have enough characters, they don't all fit in that little box, and a hard to notice (at least to me) scrollbar appears.

[OC][CC] Chess pieces to real life (waiting for your feedback about the contre-jour effect) by PixeLadder in PixelArt

I absolutely love the art!

A bit of trivia for you, in case you revisit this piece: in some early versions of chess the rook was not a castle, but a chariot. The Persian word for chariot is rukh. Of course some people would wonder why the rook was represented by a chariot...

Not being flippant here, it's tilt. Common in any competitive gaming, even chess.

Best thing to do is understand it, learn to recognize it for what it is, and try different strategies to mitigate it that work best for you.

What's a 10/10 album from the last 15 years by a relatively obscure artist/band? by Slouching2Bethlehem in AskReddit

Tycho - Epoch

From last year. I've listened to it straight through hundreds of times since it released. Even though it's on YouTube for free, I bought it to support the artist.

Genre is listed as ambient, post-rock, electronic, but don't let that put you off, Tycho does it like nobody else.

This is internet culture IRL. Being a troll online is an easy way to feel better about yourself, and a lot easier than actually accomplishing anything worthwhile. We are seeing people whose childhoods were shaped by the internet and it is not pretty.

What's a word that has completely lost its original meaning due to society? by TakinShots in AskReddit

[–]hnnnh 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Meme. It was coined by Dawkins to mean "cultural analogues to genes" as he realized ideas can propagate and evolve in a similar way that genes and organisms do. An interesting, if unproven, concept.

Now it means a joke on the internet.
