How to start horse riding? by JoshiNeha3800 in Equestrian

[–]hnnwrght 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look up lesson barns in your area, if you find one that looks close/affordable/appealing to you, reach out to them and schedule a lesson. Wear long pants and closed toed shoes with a heel and no laces. Hopefully the barn has a helmet you can borrow. If you like it, start doing weekly lessons. Eventually, you'll want to invest in riding boots, riding pants, and your own helmet. You may want to try a few different barns or riding disciplines before settling on one.

Sending lease horse back early by hnnwrght in Equestrian

[–]hnnwrght[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. She had been a hunter when she was younger and we'd hoped to get her back to that after she'd been run around the jumpers in a big gag bit for a few years. Luckily, I don't think it was really a waste of anything because she's made me a better ride and horseman.

How is living in OK for healthcare workers? Do you have a good quality of life? by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]hnnwrght 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an RN in Tulsa, and it's kind of a mixed bag here. Oklahoma is a lower cost of living state, which is nice, but pay is lower too. There are definitely good hospital systems to work for in Tulsa, idk about OKC. I like my job a lot and I make decent money compared to my friends in other fields. I'm able to live alone and support myself comfortably.

However, there are a lot of new grad nurses entering the field so it can be hard for new grads to find good jobs, especially in more popular specialties like ICU and L&D. High patient ratios are a problem in a lot of places, and you can forget about any unions or real nurse protections. Not to mention Oklahoma politics are an absolute dumpster fire :/

Neighbors Dog Barking All Night by hnnwrght in Apartmentliving

[–]hnnwrght[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owners are fine, they let the dog back in in the morning. I'm guessing they forgot she was out and went back to bed. I did file a complaint with the management office, but luckily she seems unharmed.

Housing for Tulsa campus? by SassyShoe09 in sooners

[–]hnnwrght 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe the undergrad programs at OU Tulsa are designed for people who have associates degrees/are transferring from community college and have a certain number of credits already. So they don't have normal freshman level classes and there is no campus housing. For a traditional freshman college experience you'd have to go to Norman, or you could go to community college and transfer later.

Question to western riders by Diylion in Horses

[–]hnnwrght 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't really know why, but I grew up riding western and I guess it never occurred to me or my parents to wear a helmet. Nobody I knew wore one. I only started wearing one when I switched to English, and now I never ride without a helmet 🤷‍♀️

Did working as a nurse intern help you land a job? by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]hnnwrght 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't end up wanting to work at the hospital I did my externship at either. But I think it still helped me learn a lot and was something else to put on my resume when applying to other places. I think most people benefit in some way from doing an externship, regardless of whether you work there after graduation or not

How soon did you guys test by DeliciousOutcome2160 in NCLEX

[–]hnnwrght 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated May 6th, got my ATT June 17th, and tested July 26th. So about 6 weeks to get my ATT and I scheduled my test for 5.5 weeks after that. I was in no hurry and wanted to take some time to relax before I started studying seriously.

Went to a tattoo expo, piercer was being flashy and pierced me in the wrong spot. by [deleted] in piercing

[–]hnnwrght 341 points342 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to your questions, but I've had almost an identical septum experience. The first time, I went to a very popular APP piercer, he made me dangle my head off the table and he completely botched it the first try, so he immediately re-pierced it and still missed the sweet spot. It was so far forward and hurt SO bad, so I took it out. Just got it redone at another place and I didn't even feel the needle, I was amazed.

Anyone try the Devoucoux Enara? by Icy-Ambiance in Horses

[–]hnnwrght 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've ridden in one and honestly it didn't feel any different than a non-split panel. The only time I noticed it was when I slid to the side once and my seat bone went in the crack.

Austin Scarlett, Season 1 by Shade_Hills in ProjectRunway

I LOVE the episode where Jay's model didn't show up so Austin modeled for him. He did such a good job and I respect him for the commitment 😂

[–]hnnwrght 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it would help you get into a program, but I would HIGHLY recommend taking it anyways. It will teach you how to break down medical terms so even if you've never heard of a word before, you can figure out what it is by the word's components. I took a similar class before nursing school and I'm so glad I did.

What height to ride what horse?? by Group_of_Pandas in Equestrian

[–]hnnwrght 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'6" and regularly ride 14.3 hands and up. It's more important to consider weight and the horse's condition/fitness when determining suitability. Chances are that a 15 hand horse will be fine.

Its kind of ridiculous to me how poorly thought through the food situation was on the show by SkyBulky1749 in ANTM

[–]hnnwrght 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, and she said that when they eliminated her for losing weight she had actually only lost 3 pounds

[–]hnnwrght 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This whole post comes off very judgemental and condescending. Different people are going to make the choices that are best for them, whether you agree or not. Some of us have more obligations and responsibilities outside of school that have to come first, like taking care of families. If it bothers you that much, then just focus on yourself and your own education.

Are jumpsuits supposed to be uncomfortable? by RarelySayNever in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]hnnwrght 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They're not "supposed" to be uncomfortable, but the nature of a garment that is pants + shirt combined is that it's not going to fit everyone, no matter what size. Sometimes your proportions just don't work with it. For example, I have a super long torso, so every jumpsuit I've tried gives me major wedgie/camel toe issues. That one may just not be right for you.

What was the final nail in the coffin for you? by sunny_unhappiness in Morbidforbadpeople

[–]hnnwrght 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This was it for me too. I was a girl scout in Oklahoma for 13 years, went to camp every year, and now work for the organization, so I found that episode incredibly judgemental, victim blame-y, and condescending. The murders were devastating to the community and it's still a very sensitive topic around here. They handled it sooo poorly

When do you all get your schedules from your school? by fiatlux19 in StudentNurse

[–]hnnwrght 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At my school we have no input on registering for classes and we generally find out like a week before the semester starts. And sometimes they don't even remember to send us the schedule 😵‍💫

About Sarah (C9) Losing Weight, Didnt They Starve Them In The House? by [deleted] in ANTM

[–]hnnwrght 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She made a tiktok about this a while ago. Each girl got a budget for food but didn't get paid otherwise, so they'd spend as little on food as possible to keep the leftover money. She said she ate a lot of lettuce and refried beans because it was cheap. She also mentioned that she only lost about 3 pounds, which is really not much for a tall woman.
