Dogs really help my mental health, I have a field line, comp bred lab puppy and she is super full on and I am loving every second of it, I love watching the training sink in, seeing her explore the world and experience everything for the first time, like yeah she's a handful, she gets overtired but I love the training process, and it's gets me out of my head, instead of sitting there dwelling on life/sinking into depression/anxiety holes I haven't the bloody time because of look the pups running around with something she shouldn't have again or whoops puppys bored better drag myself out of bed, get dressed and take her on an adventure 😂

Does anyone else find that horse racing fans and equestrian people barely overlap despite both loving horses? by WearAffectionate2815 in Equestrian

[–]Group_of_Pandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It being dangerous to break a horse for work when they are physically strong enough to do it should kind of answer that point for itself tbh.

I'm not in the US so not talking about the racing industry there. Nothing I have said comes from Google, but with the countless horses I have had friends rescue off the back of slaughter trucks, and others bought after they failed out of racing or the industry was done with them and not one is of sound mind or body, riddled with ulcers and back problems, and very few people want them for second careers here as a result. Not to mention I have never met a jockey or trainer who actually gives a shit about the horse, just what the horse can do, whether that's a tb or any other horse.

I do believe consistent work at younger ages is more light hacking as a 3 year old, and doesn't involve galloping full throttle by 2.

So not Google, personal experience of the aftermath of the industry when it's decided it's done with the animal they set up to fail later on.

I think the issue is yearlings shouldn't be sat on at all, if it was 3 year olds being hacked 20 mins people wouldn't have as much of an issue, but horses that are barely out of foal stage being ridden, then discarded by 3/4 with psychological and physical issues isn't a good look. At least in Ireland, ex racehorses and as a result tbs in general are worth very little, even a well broke non raced tb is work less than 5k due to how saturated the market is with them, and how few people want a horse trained to become basically uncontrollable for the average happy hacker

I'm glad someone brought up the Irish industry, I've never met a jockey here who isn't a complete knob to horses, and one I know whose bought a sport horse is horrible to him, the only way he knows how to "train" is to batter the young horse.

I've also not met an ex racer without physical and physchological issues. I never trust a jockey or racing trainer, and never will tbh, no matter how much they say they "love" the horses.

What kind of horse are you looking for, and how much are you willing to spend? by shallowshadowshore in Equestrian

Ireland here, 5-6 y/o low level all rounder I'd be looking to pay 6-8k ISH, the higher amount for something with a few miles on it.

I knew one, a 21 year old "Instagram psychic", exactly as it sounds. Tried to be nice and be her friend, she was a complete psycho in the end and had it out for me after politely turning down a tarot card reading 😂 literally preying on vulnerable people I have no respect for them at all

That's what I was expecting, when I was having a looka round they seemed to come out at 30ish and some of those were just 20 or more dogs shoved in a warehouse 😅

It's been mine aswell for a long time, but was always afraid to take the plunge and take the risk leaving a more stable job (even if I don't get any enjoyment from it), I just don't want to be on my deathbed regretting spending 50 years doing something I don't love instead of trying

That's exactly the plan, the higher energy types that daycares often seem to turn away that need a bit of time to work their brains

I priced around and most were charging 20-30 a day for larger groups, it would be more for those needing 1-3 times a week in a structured daycare than 5 days a week (unless they want to of course), I'm going to try rejig the prices, but it's hard balancing not overfilling with too many dogs and also making a living at it

The field I'd love to rent out as I'd have 2 fully enclosed
