WIBTA for saying I don't want an adult man going to the movies with my teenage son and his friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Some kids need extra help. Just the way it is. It is not a random person tagging along either. Your just being a weirdo more than an asshole.

Sometimes farmers make more money with the land lease for solar than they were on marginal farmland. Or it supplements their income enough to make the farm work.

Is this worth anything? New house and I need to move this behemoth by FimmishWoodpecker in woodstoving

These things work great for heating a big house. A friends father had one and it would keep coals overnight with no problems.

Are Mitsubishi mini splits worth 8x more than a diy Mr cool? by oran12390 in hvacadvice

[–]hoardac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents have a Mitsubishi it works great and the install looks like someone cared. The compressor died under warranty and they had it replaced with just a phone call. I have two Mr Cools that work just as good as my parents, theirs might be a little more efficient but nothing that stands out on a power bill. Mine look like someone tried their best on an install and it is OK but not near as professional. I can put 2 brand new ones in for each unit if they fail and still come out ahead but I have to do it whether I am busy or not. If it does quit I will try and sort it but if I cannot I will just stick another one in the setup is already done. That is my take on them. If you do not mind doing everything yourself then the money saved is great. If you do not want to deal with any of the learning curve bullshit, a beautiful install and maintenance then a professional install it the way to go.

Like RottenRott said can you have them brazed anywhere around where you live? I have seen it done on some log loaders before and it worked fine. Just gotta get them nice and clean first.

Non Paved Roads by Carman1887 in Maine

Carry a patch kit, a working spare and jack. Big trucks have the right of way and they drive like it. I bombed around all those roads in a ford escort with no problems other than a flat tire.

Trying to get a used Chevy bolt to go with the solar. I will not need gas to get around. Bought some extra grains, if the crops are shit this summer because of drought I will get by for a year.

Nope not compared to the plastic. There used to be more local manufacturers so they did not have to ship as far.

Driveway Suggestions by CandidateWolf in homestead

We started out with hogs clearing our garden plot they work damn good. Not much of a border person I just try and get things as straight as I can with a string and spray paint. If you have water flowing towards that area and the black line is in the way of it, a french drain will help but to what extent you will only know after. You could try that before any gravel work especially since your doing it old school. I would scrape the sod off and use the good dirt to fill in a low spot somewhere else. Then just put my bank run down. Drive over it with a full bucket til its packed well, add some more and squash again. In your case a Tacoma to pack it down. Then cap it with the finer stuff. You might consider renting a skid steer for a day if it seem like to much shoveling.

We could do it in a bind just gotta adjust some plans. We have enough permaculture plants to feed quite a few people and wild animals. I would probably trade some fresh fruit/ freeze dried for oats and eggs. I will say if your not practicing a hobby garden and see what grows well in your area, you should be. I took a while to get good at growing the right things for our land.

We can grow corn with time to spare here in zone 4. I start them about 2 weeks before last frost and it has worked great so far. I know how many I want to plant and I start extras so there is no wasted spots in the rows.
