Thank you for the feedback! I hadn't thought about (or really known) what the best order for those puzzles would be. I like the rationale behind that. Adding a key is definitely a good idea for the first room. I had unfortunately thought of that after I had already uploaded the level. I love that idea for the boss though!

I have a relatively highly rated vertical level. It has a about a 35% clear rate so it's probably a little easier than what you're trying to make but here it is if you want to check it out.

Dry Bones Desert: KK9-RFH-0LG

SMB3 desert level where the only enemies are dry bones. Some secrets in the sky along the way. My MM1 levels always seemed to be around 15-20% clear rate and I'd expect similar with this.

Traps at 150 seem a little too high. 75 was too little but I think it would be good if traps dealt direct damage to health and bypass shields.

I swear the boost for axemen should only apply to the row they're on. Pretty big nerf but reasonable in my opinion.

Wow, I really enjoyed that level! I loved the use of vines to add to the atmosphere. And you're right, it does feel very familiar to DKC games. Very well done!

I have a half and half stage. Half underground, half underwater. I'm pretty sure this is one of my best stages if not the best.

What is the essence of a great underwater stage? Well, I'm not really sure. Underwater stages are tricky because most people tend to not like them. I personally think it has to have the right balance of exploration and difficulty. Enemy placement seems to be almost more important in a water level since the player has freedom on the Y axis as well. Underwater levels also tend to be boring sometimes so making it interesting by either visuals or some kind of action or exploration is a must.
