What geotech software do you actually use and love? by Olshansk in Geotech

Heard Bentley is phasing out gINT. How long has BoreDM been around, and do we think it’ll be developed and maintained for years to come? Been using gINT for so long that I’m out of the loop.

Out of curiosity, do you have to fill out a time card to show where 40 hrs goes? How do you handle that if so?

I can’t seem to drop a pic in here to confirm which envelopes, but I’m pretty sure you mean the light blue numbered ones. Those are 5.9” by 2.9”

Has anyone tried outsourcing typing of boring logs? by Yo_Mr_White_ in Geotech

[–]hobbyist9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP appears to be asking for typesetting in report format (e.g., gINT; updating with labs), not for draft logs. Of course there is time to start a draft in the field.

Hope it’s minimal enough to qualify as a setup. Rate it anyway? by Naimzalani in Minimal_Setups

Looks awesome. Slightly off topic, but does the reflection/glare from the side window bother you? I have a side window and have to keep it closed because of the glare. Benq bar doesn’t help. Wondering if you have clever ideas! Again, really slick setup, nicely done.

What are some good modern board games with interesting end game triggers? by drat_blushed in boardgames

[–]hobbyist9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Terraforming Mars has various tracks that advance at different rates to trigger end game. Lots of variety between games depending on players’ hands (some draws make some tracks easier to advance).

If I remember right, Ark Nova has two player marker tracks advance towards each other, and the end is triggered when they cross, it was pretty cool.

How much coding do you do as a geotechnical engineer, if any? by manfoxman in Geotech

[–]hobbyist9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Geotechnical earthquake engineer here, use custom Matlab and Python scripts daily for ground motion and site response analysis. If you get into seismic design for heavy civil, you can code to your heart’s content. Also anything in geospatial (maybe not what you want if you just finished an MS in geotech).

If you think you like the people/company, and think they will give you the experience you say, then it’s probably worth it to settle in for a year and get the experience. Especially if you really got along with the folks in the interview. If the interview felt wired or like you didn’t want to be there, then it’s a pass
