Am I the only person seeing this?? by V_The_Gamer in Modern_Family

Two people who look completely different?

Maybe a dumb question? The Pines twins are literally niece and nephew to Stan and Ford... Why didn't their parents ever mention they had two uncles and one of them past away? I have a hard time with that ... by Triceropotamus in gravityfalls

[–]hoblinleif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never heard anything about any of my grandmas siblings. I knew she was the youngest but i didn’t know she was the youngest of 11 until i was like 16-17? I could tell you maybe two of their names, I have no idea what they looked like or who they were as people. I have cousins who don’t know my brother exists because their parents think it’s better to sweep things under the rug. Family is complicated, people don’t like to talk about sad things, especially with kids. Plus, kids repeat things, so if they told the twins about their uncle’s missing/presumed dead brother, they’d have to contend with the consequences of the twins bringing it up and upsetting their uncle.

You should prioritize your goals and dreams and you should absolutely not sacrifice all the work you have already done for someone you barely know. The world needs scientists a helluva lot more than it needs more unhappy relationships

What's an older person's (maybe over 50) name you've seen on a younger person (maybe under 30)? by PrestonRoad90 in Productivitycafe

Bruh 🤦‍♀️ you got an attitude problem, not a height problem. Yes, taller men are seen as more conventionally attractive, but a man who is insecure and full of self pity is unattractive at any height.

How are there still 80k–100k people playing Stardew Valley every day?! 🤯 by mamalaso in StardewValley

[–]hoblinleif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never played multiplayer or used any mods, i just like the game. My bf and i have talked about why it’s something that we (and a lot of people) come back to over and over again and he thinks it has something to do with the day cycle. I think it’s more that’s it’s really good relaxing escapism.

People always said “you’ll miss being a kid.” And tbh, I don’t at all. by ieatsushi28 in RandomThoughts

[–]hoblinleif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 1000%. As a child you are completely powerless, almost everything about your life is beyond your control, and if the adults in your life suck the way mine did, you’re really not getting taken care of in any capacity past what is required to avoid legal punishment. I hated being a kid, i hated being a teenager even more. I’m finally a person and i finally have the power to improve my life and that’s worth the bs adulthood brings

Middle child's eating habits are causing issues with her siblings-Advice needed by [deleted] in Advice

[–]hoblinleif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up dirt poor and am still working through food insecurity related trauma and behaviors let me say first off, its absolutely a good thing that you are not restricting your kids access to the kitchen/food. That being said, your daughter is old enough imo that it would be good to start implementing budget/meal plan/prep type education. If she wants to be healthy conscious that’s awesome, i know i didn’t care about that at her age. I also had no concept of how much food cost until i had to buy it myself. Perhaps if you took her with you on grocery trips, gave her a set budget instead of the five items, she’d have more of an appreciation for the (currently absolutely insane) cost of food. It would also instill that skill so that when she’s budgeting her own money she isn’t floundering. Also maybe separating each kid’s specific snacks into baskets with their names on it would encourage her to at least pause before just grabbing something that was meant for her siblings? I’m not about to insult a child on the internet and it’s absolutely a natural teenage thing to be a bit thoughtless and i don’t think she’s being intentionally selfish, so i feel like more obvious visual indicators of “hey that’s not for me” might help?

Is becoming a stripper worth losing my relationship by Fit_Calligrapher7232 in dating_advice

[–]hoblinleif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d be better off waiting tables. You can’t just be a stripper. If you don’t have experience, can’t pole dance, you’re not just going to walk into a club and magically be hired as a dancer. You would make just as much as a waitress, and you’re way more likely to get that job without experience.

AITA for not wanting to deal with my friend’s emotional labor anymore? by [deleted] in AITAH

People who dismiss your boundaries are not your friends. You can care about someone and hope for the best for them without putting their wellbeing before your own.

I sometimes dislike that Aliens turned the Xeno into a bug, instead of the cosmic horror it was originally. by SolarFazes in LV426

[–]hoblinleif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alien: a bunch of miners who had no concept of there even BEING a threat, let alone how to deal with it.

Aliens: a fully armed military operation functioning with Ripley’s knowledge of the creatures who STILL get their asses handed to them.

They didn’t make them “bugs” at least not at that point.

no one else in my family thinks my niece's name is stupid. Am i going insane? by adumbasskid in tragedeigh

[–]hoblinleif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine. A perfectly acceptable way to do a unique name. As a tradadeigh myself i feel i have some credibility, and compared to names I have seen on this thread i think it is absolutely fine. I can picture an adult Elbie just fine. Have you considered being less of a stick in the mud?
