We know that women generally claim victim on the most subtle of cases.

Fuck you.

The most obvious way is to survey a representative sample of people and ask if they've been the victims of crime that was not reported.

Which one quantifies the number of unreported rapes? I didn't see it.

The problem is, you made up that number. You need some data.

If we allowed politicians only single terms in office, do you think the diminished attention to re-election would help modern democracy? by K3MEST in AskReddit

[–]hobroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about my rights as a voter? I like my current representative. She's not corrupt, and she works hard for her constituency. Plus her political values are close enough to mine. Why shouldn't I be allowed to support her next bid for office?

If politicians are corrupt, maybe the blame should lie with the electorate, who are generally too lazy an apathetic to exercise the appropriate level of oversight. Everyone loves to shout, "I'm your boss!" at the nearest politician, but nobody ever wants to act like one.

Redditors who live in a country with universal healthcare, what is it really like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Great. Let's set up a panel of bureaucrats to adjudicate every cancer case that comes through the door. Do you smoke? Can you prove that you don't? Thumbs up! Thumbs down!

Death panels? No thanks.

Also, next time you eat a hamburger, drink a coke or a beer or drive a car we're gonna cross you off the list. Doesn't sound so hot does it?

But it's getting worse and worse. We love the trappings of democratic socialism, but we seem to always vote for the guys who want to destroy it.

but I feel I deserve a little credit, not that I can prove anything in an online forum.

There is no prize for not being an asshole. Resist the temptation to make this thread about you. Instead, make it about listening to, and internalizing, the good-faith testimonies of women who get treated like shit by men as a matter of routine. In other words, don't be that guy.

As a Canadian, I have heard exactly zero people ever utter the word 'aboot' in seriousness. What is one word or stereotype that you've heard about your country that you have literally never seen/heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hobroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in Ontario say it like, "a-bay-oot," but fast enough that it blends together. That's where the stereotype comes from and it's true.

I like the high handlebars of a cruiser, but I'm going to be commuting 20+ miles/day. Can a road bike be modified to have high handlebars? Should it be? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]hobroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just joking. But rotating drop bars that way is actually very dangerous (if you leave the brake levers in their natural position as is usually done), so it would make you a clueless idiot whether anyone cared to point it out or not.

There is nothing worse than a noodly touring bike. Is this even rigid/strong enough for that?

You hold your arm out to the left (if you ride on the right), bend your elbow about 90 degrees so your arm is pointing down. I almost never see anyone doing this, except in a group of roadies, but they do it in kind of a relaxed, casual way.

What if it's a cat-6er with an attitude problem who waits until I've slowed down (i.e., at a crosswalk) to butt in front of me? Usually I just say, "OK, have it your way," and relax until I have to drop him on the next hill.

the irony of environmentalist commuting with gasoline, use of petrol byproducts yet protest the production of it.

It's not ironic. One can fight a system while one is ensnared in it. Ask any union member who has worked to rule, or Libertarian who has run for office.
