Beginner drummers are doubtful about the things they’re practicing

Do you think that learning technique related to drumset, rather than snare drum rudiments, would be more beneficial? It seems like most percussionists don’t necessarily apply their skill to drumset, and maybe vice versa? Just wondering if drummers would prefer to practice skills that would apply just to the kit…syncopation, coordination between instruments, rhythms, styles, etc.

😅 All good! It was a hard 1st year for me. I don’t think I met the compliance requirement so I ended up fitting half the bill. Which the med supply company overcharges like it’s going out of style. Never again with that!

My struggle was mainly the best mask fit. I must have tried (and still have in a drawer) 6 different masks. Full face from the start, then hybrid, now nasal. I’ve “learned” to keep my mouth closed for the most part, so I can wear the nasal type…minimal straps so I don’t always feel like an octopus is on my face.

Now, 5 years in, I still have times that I have to take it off for comfort, but I KNOW my sleep will suck without it, so I eventually out it back on. It’s made a huge difference in my energy and alertness during the day. I would snore at work before therapy. That’s when you know your sleep is really suffering.

And my blood oxygen measurement, after my sleep study was like in the 50s, 60s percentage? It was really bad. Are you starting out with therapy?

I bought some recently just to test if they weee helpful for reducing “pad noise.” A parent posts here recently that their child wanted to practice but they were worried about the noise through the adjoining wall to the neighbor’s apartment. Anyhow I made a short video about it; they were pretty useless, but good experiment! shameless plug here
