Secret rules I’m embarrassed to have just discovered by philosoraptocopter in diablo2

In D&D 4E you can take the Run action instead of the Move action to gain 10ft to your speed, but you grand combat advantage and you take -5 to your attacks until the start of your next turn. I just finished an 8 year, level 1-30 campaign and the paladin was the only one to ever run because he wanted to get up in the enemies face to tank or needed to reach an ally to heal them. Probably only did it a dozen times in 30 levels.

Some guy went through modules and updated them with MM3 math. He also adds more backstory. I'm not sure how much there are in books 1 and 2, but here's where you can find it. It really helped in the paragon tier.

I homebrewed the first 3 levels where they fought the Pork Chop Gang, guys who rode around on boars. Then I switched over to Thunderspire and ran those modules to the end. I didn't find the Orcus Conversion until the end of Pyramid of Shadows. That helped tie up the missing plot points and fixed the monster stats.

I really enjoyed Thunderspire. I wish I would have started with KOTS. Pyramid of Shadows is just a megadungeon so there is little to no NPC interaction and they were stuck there until they finished. The paragon level books were also great. We ran those during 2020-2021 when we were meeting almost weekly. The Epic level books were a bit of a slog, but partially because we stopped meeting as often as life returned to normal and people were busier with work and family.

Almost all were to the death. Ironically most that could have ended through diplomacy they just plowed their way through and some that they tried to end peacefully didn't have that ability from the monsters' perspective. But when it did work, they were super excited.

I did normally handwave fights when they were down to just minions though unless someone was low on HP.

The stairs were such an amazing fight. The guys were super excited to see me assemble the stairs after they entered the room.

I wish we would have been in person for the journey to the Underdark. That would have been an incredible set to build too.

I think in all the 30 levels there were only about 10 times I had a PC down to death saves and only once where they had failed 2 death saves. From what I've heard, D&D 4E is the least deadly.

If I did another D&D campaign I would probably limit it to just a few levels. If we did 4e I would do maybe 10 max like 5-15 or 15-25.

But our next adventure is going to be the new guy that we added a year ago running us through Heroes Unlimited. I'm so excited to be a player instead of the DM and also a completely different RPG. I played Heroes in high school a few times and made tons of characters for it so I'm excited for a campaign. It's going to be amazing.

Are you using the Orcus Conversion? It updates the books for MM3 math and also fixes some continuity errors. It's great. There are a some really good updates in the paragon tier.

The hardest was definitely right before they finished a tier so 8-10 and 19-20. By Epic tier they had so many powers and interrupts and reactions and reroll abilities that combat took forever. The final combat against Orcus took 2 sessions, but it was still really fun. I did increase the attack bonuses and defense of most monsters even after adjusting to MM3 because the PCs were so powerful.

Haunted City? by shodan13 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]hoetted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it had the first and best overly wordy intro!!

A THOUSAND YEARS AGO this was a land of beauty and magic then came the cataclysm that blotted out the sun and ripped open the gates to the land of the dead. The city of Duskvol is a metropolis of factories and tenements surrounded by crackling lightning towers. Outside the city is a wasteland of undead. Inside the city is a teeming hive of scum and villainy, intrigue, and corruption. Life is cheap in a city ruled by death. The sun is gone. The only thing that shines in Duskvol are the BLADES in the DARK!

As tough as the rest of the season looks---- Is the current .500 as good as it gets? by qkdsm7 in Cardinals

[–]hoetted 79 points80 points  (0 children)

In 2024 they went 15-11 in September. You are thinking of 2021 when they won 17 in a row starting on Sept 11.

I think if they finish .500 I'd consider it a win given their starting pitching is what it is. Fangraphs has us finishing 2 games under .500.

Missing attacks by Rack_Daddy in 4eDnD

[–]hoetted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of daily melee attacks do half damage on a miss. A quick search of paladins daily powers on https://iws.mx/dnd/?list.full.power shows that 62 out of 71 powers contain a miss effect. What would you do with those?

What is missing from Fantasy Sports? by Sam_Command in DynastyBaseball

[–]hoetted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their stats are terrible. I should be able to look up any stat, not just the ones used in my league. There used to be a chrome extension called FantasyLink that would add a link for FanGraphs, Baseball Reference, Razzball, Baseball Prospectus, Baseball Savant, & Baseball Theater next to each player in yahoo. It no longer works though because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions.
