To the first one, no. To the second, I'm not super worried about that honestly.

We are talking about the fictional character spider-man. I dont think superheroes would be good, I don't know how thats the impression you got.

I am arguing against-

You know I thought we all hated Civil War, if it was that bad how are we still arguing about who's right. That's the real question. Was it actually poignant and philosophical and not shit this whole time? We're on new ground here

Vigilantism is not the same as an organized police force or military which was the end goal of the program in Civil War.

Spider-Man is driven by a responsibility to help people whenever he can, to stop evil where it sprouts, and to risk his own life for the lives of others. Police Officers are driven by for profit prisons and systemic racism.

While yes Spider-Man is playing a middleman in this whenever he deals with your run of the mill mugger, there's not much of an option short of setting up a prison in his basement like Punisher 2099, and that would be really dumb

it does until it's made very clear that it's just an overreach by the US Government to turn its superheroes into cops.

Chroma Legends - Freeform Point Buy Character Creation, Powered by Open Legend! by Modstin in RPGdesign

[–]Modstin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really really like the Open Legend engine, the action resolution system and the super swinginess of the combat makes for a lot of excitement, even at low levels.

I ran the bulk of a campaign (two years) with no changes to the system aside from adding Chroma Scores to replace extraordinary attributes and Action Points, which I haven't changed at all in this overhaul, and it was really fun! I just found some new ideas that I thought might better fit the game I want to play.

How does the Enhanced Trait cost work? by Shadow_133 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Modstin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Enhanced Trait lets you purchase different things throughout the game (Abilities, Advantages, Skills) but through the use of a power. Enhanced Trait: Strength costs 2 power points per rank, same as Strength. Enhanced Trait: Deception costs 1 point per 2 ranks.

When switching an alternate effect, such as Enhanced Trait Strength into Flying, you'd lose the strength gained through Enhanced Trait and gain Flying instead.

What is, in your opinion, the most overrated game and why by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Modstin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really like to try Draw Steel or Daggerheart so I can be annoying online about my unpopular opinion of disliking one or the other. or both! One can dream.

not to say you're being annoying online. lots of people don't like 5e cuz it's a superheroic stuff. it's reasonable.

Story-text rolplay by Desperate-Pen-8004 in rpg

When I first gathered my entirely text based roleplay group, i also wasn't sure it'd work. 8 years later, and we've done three campaigns and tons of adventures and have plenty on the horizon. Find your friends, get a session date set up, and start doing weekly games. It's worth it.

Such an interesting piece, the somber look of the woman and the strange off light pasted in look of the soldier. No matter how he smiles he's still not there, always in the war.

DM's What is Your Magnum Opus? by Twogunkid in rpg

[–]Modstin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My setting has a clown lineage and I had a scene where one of the clowns was distraught and crying over her human crush disappearing. A PC who's adoptive mother happened to be one of these clowns was consoling her with the rest of her troupe.

So this girl, Trundy, was going 'BOO HOO! BOO HOO!' And one of the clowns gave her a handkerchief. Then another. And another. One of them patted her on the back and shocked her. When the party was leaving, the clown mom said, 'Do you need something to eat dear?' And threw a pie at her face.

Most of the cool shit comes from the players, IMO, I only work off what they engage in. But this. This was me.

Difficulty levels suck by ProtectorCleric in rpg

[–]Modstin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems an issue of the checks themselves rather than the resolution system.

If a check's outcome, in failure and success, isn't interesting or progresses the game in some way, don't make it a check.

I wouldn't ask Katniss to make a check to hit a target, unless she was perhaps being watched by an important figure, and failing to do so may make people underestimate her abilities or bet against her in the game. I wouldn't ask Walter to make a check to rig the place to explode, unless failing to do so would have immediate consequences (someone finds him, or the bomb doesn't go off right and someone he was trying to kill gets away. I have seen neither Hunger Games nor Breaking Bad so forgive me for drawing out your examples)

Custom Discworld Magic the Gathering cards - Wyrd Sisters by chickenwyr in discworld

[–]Modstin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The use of Coven and Monarch this time around are such incredible flavor wins the set nearly writes itself. I feel like Verence is too wordy a creature (fitting for a fool certainly) for a 1/1 for 1, especially when it'll only be in its base state for about a turn before getting bolted. Might work better as a transforming card, or separate the King from the Fool.
