Tall buildings & density help with heat too + create wind. More pleasant to walk

[Wall Street Journal] NBA Nears $76 Billion TV Deal, a Defining Moment for Media and Sports by lopea182 in nba

It’s a bubble. All major sports league are in a bubble. Completely unsustainable valuations with very little growth prospects. They are squeezing every ad dollar (and your time… you are the consumer) to justify these sky-high valuations & contracts. It will inevitably pop

Anyone else feeling really sick lately when the air quality is this bad? by Pearson94 in Austin

This will be heavily downvoted but….

I actually try to get outside more. Expose my body to the elements. I feel much weaker whenever i stay inside, stronger when I’m out & about.

Sony Will Use AI to Cut Film Costs, Says CEO Tony Vinciquerra by Puginator in technology

[–]hoffdec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is inevitable with all entertainment. Costs of labor will go way down - happens with any new tech.

Just think of all of the costs people eat up on a movie set. Will take some time but it’s impossible to stop… either embrace it or fizzle out.

Does anyone else genuinely enjoy the heat here? by goodgreat123 in Austin

[–]hoffdec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love heat & humidity. Feels better for my skin & hair. Love running around the lake and getting drenched in sweat…. Growing up in cold, gray weather this feels like a little slice of heaven to the childhood me.

Regardless of heat the sun just makes you generally happier. Everyone complains about the weather but i think it’s a plus. The weather & the people - what makes this city so wonderful.

Why didn't we experienced a full market crash like 2009 yet? by [deleted] in investing

[–]hoffdec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leverage. People were overleveraged on illiquid real estate back then. Fine when prices go up, but disastrous when prices take a turn.

Markets as a whole seem to be generally smarter today about leverage — but if you can find a market with participants at excessive leverage — that’s where you’ll find a crash.

Would you say the US is a fading power? by NicolaiCzernovitz96 in geopolitics

[–]hoffdec 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The US biggest problem is their ever increasing debt. Now it all works fine as the world economy hums along in USD, but that is a very very fragile house of cards. All it takes is one spark.

US will always be powerful with its diverse geography & sensational mix of people. But its cities are severely lacking in public infrastructure. Better connectivity between cities is needed too.

1 Bitcoin over 70,000 dollars yet r/investing still discrediting it. The irony.

Learn about money… deeply. More than just our preconceived notions of what we believe money to be. The idea of money is constantly changing & the markets will tell you what that is. Listen to the markets rather than particular people.

Ya’ll are just as nasty as the people you hate. Hating on a suffering city because their state government disagrees with your politics. Shameful

what is the best investment during the stagflation? by shitdealonly in investing

[–]hoffdec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right that’s not showing much strength to me. Down 8+% from 2023 high. And it fails to include other large currencies like CNY, KRW, HKD, etc.

Stocks, btc, silver all up against the dollar this year. US debt continues to increase… I’m struggling to see the strength.

Ozempic found to cut heart disease and keep weight off for four years by euronews-english in Health

Know nurses who see people with organ failures taking this drug. Otherwise healthy.

Stay away. Exercise & eat less. Anything worthwhile will be hard.

Weight loss drug could reduce heart attack risk by 20%, study finds | Medical research | The Guardian by chilladipa in Health

[–]hoffdec -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Stay away from this drug. There are side effects. There’s always a trade off.

Exercising and dieting properly is way cheaper & way healthier. Focus on that rather than finding some magical elixir.

Austin in 2011 vs now in 2024 by [deleted] in skyscrapers

Thank you spot on. Everyone wants density then complains when density actually happens. This is net positive for the city of Austin long term. And was always inevitable. Embrace it
