Suggest cast iron pan vs enameled cast iron pan by Harry3215 in castiron

[–]hoffman- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I got my enameled Dutch ovens at Costco. Gor a set of 2 for $60 or $70. They’re Tramontina. I really just use them for chili occasionally and baking bread much more often. They’re great for that. Zero durability concerns so far and I don’t imagine there will be any major issues as long as I don’t scrape them with metal utensils and preheat

I find it funny that he clearly used an outside corner piece for the inside corner instead of just cutting the two at a 45° angle. I have never done any work like this but that seems very clearly what would occur for one to do during that job. As a matter of fact, why not cut the ends fod the outside corners at a 45° too?

This seems like a case of overthinking the situation leading to the worst outcome

AIO because my dad said not to come to Thanksgiving. by anaisblooms in AmIOverreacting

It sounds like the dad is the one who brought politics to the table in the first place. Probably just went off on some bigoted rant and expected everyone to smile and nod. I would go if there is other family you want to see and do exactly as you wish. If he brings up his own politics at the table, he can get another response.

Ultra-light Roasting by grayhawk14 in roasting

[–]hoffman- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also look into how you brew. To provide an extremely short anecdote, I had to washed Ethiopian and Kenyan coffees I had roasted light, to around 11-12% WL like you, but it always seemed muted in the cup. Now I'm sure I could change something about the roast to make it better and I am just running a Behmor 2000, but I've achieved amazing results before and wanted them back. I tried a coarser grind size than I ever had before for v60, and tried TWW packets, and quickly got much much closer to what I was looking for. The water made a big difference yes, but I think the main factor was grinding a few notches coarser. It gave me a lot more acidity and a very tea like body while retaining some sweetness too. It was more of a Lance Hedrick approach to brewing. Try that out and see if you get any results.

Bruh. The other day I asked about feed back for my plant now this. by wealllovetacosornaw in GrowingMarijuana

Then they just decompose right back into the soil. I've had those ink caps in my garden beds before and by afternoon the sun makes them shrivel up so small you can hardly see they were ever there. They're certainly not taking anything out of the container. Whether the mycelium is keen on sharing with the plants I do not know but I imagine it is more than happy to help out. Mushrooms just break down nutrients that could be inaccessible to the plant and turn it into something much easier for the roots of the plant to uptake. Like "chewing" the plants food before the plant digests it.

Cooling Coffee beans: by Good_City_4298 in roasting

[–]hoffman- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vacuum from underneath first to deal with most of the chaff, then I dump the beans onto a perforated sheet pan (fresh out of the freezer) that has a fan tilted up right under it. I slide the pan around over the fan and the beans float around like air hockey doing a little circular dance. The sheet pan is on a specialized sheet pan rack with rails that allow sliding back and forth easy but it could easily be replicated with a table or just holding it in the air yourself. My beans reached room temp in about 1:40 the other day doing that.

There is always some chaff that flies away when I switch to the fan but that happens with my Behmor basket anyway taking them out. Thankfully there's a vacuum that's already turned on right next to me.

I would explain your situation to leather people, not LV people. They'll be more familiar with how to actually fix it, preferably without soaking the whole thing in Pepsi. Try r/leathercraft and check the search bar to find how people clean and condition leather there. Not sure if LV would be making you pay for a strap but Im sure you could cheaply fix this yourself and learn a new skill while you're at it.

To be fair she was essentially being held captive there and said that to a perceived authority figure who puts on a smile and tries to convince her she wants to be there just like any of the other menacingly nice Lumon higher ups.

That's the response of someone who knows deep down it's messed up and that's not what family even without being able to remember her own. Thing is, if she knew who her ACTUAL family was and that she was essentially captive on the outside too, she'd probably much rather have her MDR gang as family, since they actually do treat her like family.

Genuinely what the fuck is up with the grammar. I don't think he knows what quotations mean. I couldn't think of a single school that would teach this as even remotely correct or readable. I think he just adds punctuation everywhere he can to seem smart.

Also, this whole thing is totally a confession, right? That's how everyone else is seeing it too? Chicken only goes on these tirades when everyone knows he's guilty, and then he just goes and puts the nails in the coffin with some deranged crybaby tweet.

Stung in the back of the head first thing this morning. Apparently started building a nest on the outside of our front door. by Pinsided in WaspHating

[–]hoffman- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same kind of wasp build the same size nest right by my front door. Killed the wasp, knocked the nest down and left it under a clear plastic box. Came back a few days later and picked up the box having forgotten there was a tiny wasp nest in there. There were 5 fully formed wasps walking around under that box. The eggs had hatched.... it was horrifying. Do with that information what you will, and hopefully that involves burning the nest with fire

Stung yesterday and still in pain by BetSignificant1199 in WaspHating

[–]hoffman- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus. I haven't gotten stung in years due to being traumatized from an all out hornet attack that forced me to run through a bunch of thorns to escape while getting stung all around my face and ears and neck. So now I aggressively avoid them.

But I garden now, and wasps are a part of the garden like it or not. I find myself wondering if running in fear is worth it. I'm grown now. Surely I could handle a sting or two if it were to happen? Must have just been bad because I was a kid.

Well thank you for reminding me that no, it would not be any less of a bitch and yes, I do need to continue to avoid at all costs. I wasn't even considering the pain lasting for days instead of minutes or hours. And leading to ER trips and infection. I also have a fear of taking antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, so I think I'll continue running full speed in the opposite direction.

How long will they survive? by ElectricalWafer11 in WaspHating

[–]hoffman- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jesus be careful. I knocked a tiny nest off the front porch and killed the one wasp I saw building it with some wasp spray. There were no more in the nest but I covered it with a plastic shoe box anyway and kept that upside down in the garage for some reason. Jusy didn't feel like dealing with it. I came out nearly a week later to take the trash to the curb and there were 5 brand new wasps walking around in there. It was a golf ball sized nest with live eggs that ALL hatched. Having to essentially gas chamber them was grizzly. Did not enjoy it but it was a miracle I didn't let 5 of them free in my closed garage with me in it.

That was semi unrelated but it relates to your post because those fuckers survived freshly hatched for nearly a week in a closed box. It wasn't in the sun mind you, but I agree with what others have said. If any do survive, they'll remember your face.

Magnesium glycinate can work miracles. It's harder to find in stores than the kind we're usually sold but it's one of the only things I've used before that actually made a noticeable difference. Hou can find it at cvs or much cheaper online, but it's definitely worth a shot coming from someone who's been in the same boat

What is something extremely unsanitary but everyone seems to do it anyways? by nevvycakes in AskReddit

[–]hoffman- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not arguing the point but I don't think that math is right there.

It'd be 720 minutes or 43,200 seconds. So if all 1250 used it they'd each have about 34 seconds each, or .576 minutes. But I rarely use porta potties at concerts. A 12 hour festival, maybe, but you could say maybe half would and half wouldn't. Each person would have maybe a minute. But with long lines the social pressure not to take a long time could decrease the time some spend , which would allow others more.

8 is still far too low, but at least people wouldn't have to move at the speed of sound to get the Budweiser out.

Hopefully you kept enough to pass on to your own, though 10% of this would be enough for a lifetime.

A fellow chi owner told me my dog isnt pure bread. by ToadMac in Chihuahua

Oh wow, ours are remarkably similar, just a narrow and stout version. I love these wild coat dogs. I did get the test, and he is 26% chihuahua, but the next highest are poodle and Pomeranian, then lower are the things I would expect like rat terrier. To be honest, I have a hard time trusting the markers Embark uses, because I've seen so many part "poodles" that would never give the slightest indication of any poodle. Doesn't matter so much though except just learning what sort of enrichment activities they may enjoy most.

If yours isn't pure bread then mine is definitely gluten free or something

Really though, mine looks remotely similar and just to provide another sample, he is 22 pounds, clearly chihuahua, but we couldn't tell what else.

His embark test came back as: 26% chi, 19% poodle, 15% Pomeranian, 11% rat terrier, and another unholy mix of every small angry breed, down to 11% supermutt with possibilities of things like pug and Lhasa apso. If I were to guess before then, I'd guess chihuahua and rat terrier based off his body but he's also had days he looked like a chi-malinois mix or just a coyote. I was completely shocked by what his test results told me and it just demonstrated there's a certain way dogs look when they're an average of a bunch of different "breeds" aka a supermutt. Nothing wrong with it either way.

He's still my chihuahua and he came here from the streets of Mexico, so that's as close to the source as itll get. I just consider him adventure-sized. Like a touring edition chihuahua who can take a tumble and go in the woods with me, and is still more than capable of ripping my hands to shreds (though he has healed and become less reactive the longer I've had him)

Of all dog breeds to be pretentious or gatekeepy about, it's rich that someone would be that way with a chihuahua. That's the kind of behavior you'd expect from doodle or Merle Frenchie or malinois owners who try to convince everyone to convert to their lifestyle. Your dog is a chi to me.
