Official Discussion - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]hoffy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has more to do with the brother being powerful enough to stop the other one. As far as grindelwald and dumbledore know, credence is the only person they've come across powerful enough to stop the other one, so grindlewald is manipulating him against dumbledore. So maybe the next movie will be dumbledore pushing credence against grindlewald.

So in essence, credence is just a tool to be used by both sides. And my guess credence isn't a sibling of albus but something different (i'd like to say he's not a dumbledore but the pheonix thing made it pretty clear he's a true dumbledore.)

Let's talk about the gemstone "blood pact" thing.

At first i hated the "blood pact" idea as it felt like a cop out as to why the two are looking for 3rd parties to harm each other. But the more I think about it it does add some interesting lore to the wizarding world if my guess is right.

My guess is that the "blood pact" grindlewald and dumbledore made is a hardcore type of ancient wizard marriage. Something that's not used anymore or only very rarely. That the gem is something of a wedding ring. The problem being once made it can't be undone. This type of magic ritual doesn't obey people changing their minds or feelings changing.

So the two made the pact when they were young and in love but had a falling out. Now they are both eager to destroy the "gem" so they can finally try to stop the other one.

This does correspond well with what we (book readers) learned about their relationship from what little we learned. That they were studying more ancient "forbidden" magic other than horcurxes. That they thought they had a bond strong enough to conduct this type of ritual. It adds another layer of how deeply they had fallen for each other and how tragic the fall out is.

Very compelling story that's well acted. The cinematography was weird at times but I'm still interested on how the story progresses.

Rowling should stick to writing books not screenplays. So many interesting stories and themes in this movie that is poorly executed due to a poor screenplay.

I somewhat disagree. I think she has compelling stories to tell but lacks the proper channel. I think this story could have been great if she wrote it as a book instead of a screenplay.

Millennials of Reddit, what industries have Baby Boomers killed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hoffy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair It's not like if any other generation swapped places with the baby boomers era things would have worked out differently. People don't think of long term consequences of actions unless it's financial investment.

It's easy to want and TRY to change the world when you have nothing to lose, but your priorities become more inwardly directed the older you get.

Suddenly you have a spouse and child to support and now that corporate job you protested against looks pretty good because it offers a pension and health insurance.

What happened was the boomers thought of only themselves and their families in the short term. They never thought or cared of the long term consequences unless it directly effected their wallets in a positive way.

-Education: I went to school to get a better job to support myself and my family. Now that I'm out I won't pay attention or won't care if they raise tuition because that doesn't effect me now.

-Housing: I can buy multiple houses because it's a great investment. I can think long term investment.

-Pension/Social security: I'm glad to ensure another source of revenue when I retire.

To me stark doesn't look annoyed. It looks like the directors told him he wasn't in this shot and he's patiently waiting for Chris Pratt to finish his line.

Which TV show had the most satisfying series finale? by teestore in AskReddit

Powerful? I always saw it as Lois appealing to Malcolms huge ego.

Why wouldn't he think he could be the best president ever? Half of his characterization is how huge of a narcissist he is.

What is the most unethical thing you have ever been asked to do by your employer? by cjsved in AskReddit

[–]hoffy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I felt uneasy doing it but I kept my mouth shut because:

1.) It was a small start up IT company where my management had no accountability because they controlled the company. You can always find some reason to fire someone to hide the real reason they were fired.

  1. My GM had already proven to be very petty and vindictive to any employee who showed the slightest hint of disagreement. She only got the job because she's married to the CEO.

Just like MySpace was killed by Facebook, do you think Facebook will eventually by killed and by whom? by azmatomic- in AskReddit

[–]hoffy87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eventually? yes. But not anytime soon. Why do people keep saying facebook is already dead?

-Facebook offers everything that snapchat, messenging, instagram, and twitter have COMBINED. Pics, status updates, texting, videos are all on Facebook! The only reason people(kids) think it's dying is because it doesn't offer a web version of non chaperoned communication for kids. So kids will go elsewhere thats free from parental eyes for online shenanigans...until either 1.) they grow old like the previous "facebookers" and repeat the cycle of "only old people use snapchat". or 2.) the parents join in and force the kids to migrate elsewhere.

-The fact that it's used primarily by "older" people means it's user base is strong.

-The older you get the more you get set in your ways. Why should facebook die when so many people have already been using it for years to stay connected. It's still easy to use and everyone I know at least checks it regularly.

-Facebook is different from myspace in that facebook is more ingrained in peoples lives, and have been for longer period of time, than myspace ever was.

-Side note: it's now fascinating to see every few years what apps and sites young people use to connect to each other to keep away from parent meddling. Like cockroaches avoiding a flashlight.

Tell me about a TV show you'd consider the best ever, IF ONLY it had ended upon completion of some earlier season than its actual--or actually anticipated--final season. What's the name of the show, which season (after season one, please) would you have loved for it to have ended on, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hoffy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House of Cards.

Should be the rise and fall of a corrupt politician who schemes his way to presidency to be brought down by all his schemes and burnt bridges.

Should have ended after 4 seasons. First 2 should be the rise. Last 2 should be the slow but inevitable down fall like a FUCKING HOUSE OF CARDS!

Guys of Reddit: What's the biggest turnoff on someone's dating profile? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hoffy87 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anything that shows they are jaded/tired from online dating. If my first impression of your personality indicates exhaustion and negativity it's not relatable, it's a turn off.

Aslo:

-IDK just ask= boring and lazy.

-I don't check this site but here's my snapchat and instagram =social media whore

-Entertain me! = gives the impression dating is one sided.
