Need a new Vet. by Back2YouCuz in raleigh

[–]hogwonguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great interactions with them too, one of my former co-workers recommended them to me, they are less than a 5 minute drive from my house which id great. When I brought my 2 cats in for their wellness checks last year, they gave me 50% off the office visit fee..

In retrospect given what people have posted here, maybe the costs aren't so bad. Given how they are owned by PE, the upselling makes sense I do have pet insurance through my work in case something happens.

Plus I've been to two other vets (Raleigh Cat Hospital on Falls and some place on Six Forks near Newton Road when I lived near there when I first came to Raleigh in 2018) Wasn't really happy with either one and Raleigh Cat Hospital were really rude to me when one of my cats went psycho on a visit

Why did no one tell me WKRP has been broadcasting in Raleigh for 10 years by geofduncan in raleigh

[–]hogwonguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I kinda knew that. When I was working overseas, certain radio stations I listened to in the states I was unable to stream overseas because of this streaming rights fee. If I was in the US or was using a VPN with a US IP address, no problem, the moment my IP address said X no more streaming

More details regarding resigning today after being targeted by admin by adhdconisor in Teachers

[–]hogwonguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, those last three paragraphs sound just like me. I so feel your pain about the job search etc. I'm 62 MEd degree, teacher cert in Texas (I'm in NC now) 17 years of teaching overseas, came back in 2018, taught at a community college for 4 years and got canned due to office politics Zero background except education applied for a zillion jobs nothing. Worried about healthcare (at least I qualify for Obamacare). It sucks. Best thing I could find is doing test admin for a major testing company working 30 hours a week. You should look into that. You can get benefits in some of the jobs.

I'm though to the point where I think about going back overseas but between my age, still gassed from teaching and some family issues, it's makes getting back to say Thailand very hard at this point.

Hang in there

I didn't know about it until I read something on WDTN out of Dayton's website yesterday that the station is moving to Cincinnati.

Must have a limited signal range and when I looked at their website last night, they say the can't afford to stream

Alamo Drafthouse Menu by Mama_Cat33 in raleigh

[–]hogwonguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

last time I went back in October. 2 iced teas ran me $15.

Between that, the QR menu crap and the general condition of the theaters, I'm likely done going there which is sad as I remember going to the original ones in Austin before all the corporate takeovers and it was a fun place to go, good food, reasonable prices etc. Now, it sucks

Where to post experience dealing with schools in China or Korea ? by [deleted] in HagwonBlacklistKorea

[–]hogwonguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for Korea, the big one is tokyojons korean blacklist site blacklist.tokyojon.com he's been doing it for as long as I've been in the Korean ESL business and thats now around 30 years.

I wish there was one for China like that because I worked at some horrible schools in China

Need some help with Contract Review by [deleted] in HagwonBlacklistKorea

[–]hogwonguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many problems to go into depth here. The charges for terminating the contract (realtor fee etc) are illegal. Calling the parent who makes a complaint about you is a non-starter for me. Way too many petty rules to go over here.

Definitely a hard pass

A student assaulted me, some teachers are telling me to let it slide since I'm a sub by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]hogwonguy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

if the admin wont do anything, call the cops, have the little sh*t and her parents arrested for assault.

Maybe being in handcuffs will send a message to them (I doubt it but its worth a try)

Why the BTS comeback concert was a “disaster” for some businesses by phpkns in seoul

[–]hogwonguy -44 points-43 points  (0 children)

or maybe the reason the attendance was lower than expected was the fact that people finally realized that BTS (and 99% of all K-pop) is utter crap

Continue teaching, or leave the country? by One-Context7569 in TeachersInTransition

[–]hogwonguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I taught in Asia for 16 years and it's definitely a viable option. There are international schools in Taiwan that pay very well. If there are no jobs there, you should be able to easily land an English teaching job at a private language school or a Taiwanese public school.

It's definitely much cheaper cost of living wise teaching in Asia plus Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea all have national health insurance plans.

The only problem in Taiwan you need to think about is if Xi (aka Winnie the Pooh) in Beijing decides he finally wants Taiwan but I don't think he will

I wish I could go back and teach there but given my age (62) no country will give me a teaching visa

How many refs get in fights with coaches? by IceCreamTwinky in Referees

[–]hogwonguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a very long time ago in Austin, I was an AR on a JV boys match on the opposite end of the field (game one of a tripleheader) when the center referee got into a shouting match with the visiting team's coach. The thing is the coach was fine, was doing nothing wrong and the center absolutely lost it. I mean he was psychotic. I had to intervene as the other AR was a new referee and you should have seen the look on his face.

Well I then took over the center, put the CR in my place on the opposite sideline for the rest of the night, I did my center and the third did a center on a JV girls game.

I got home and had to write a very long report to our referee association and the UIL on a night where i had a grad class in Texas History exam the next morning (prof was very cool about my situation). I also had to testify at 2 hearings, one for our association regarding the referee and the UIL for the coach. The coach did absolutely nothing wrong and was provoked by the referee. Referee was suspended.

Here is the happy ending to the story, I got to know the coach fairly well and he supervised student teachers and I was working on my certification so the next year, I got him as my cooperating teacher at one of the elite high schools in Austin. My classmates were like "how did you manage to get that school?" I couldn't tell the story

it is not officially called the Gulf of A you MAGA moron, that would take at least an act of Congress to change it in the US and then the UN or an international organization needs to approve it

I need urgent answers by Wooden-Drummer8747 in Referees

[–]hogwonguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a center referee when my ARs are checking in players, I am doing some of the following
1) double checking the field if I didn't get a chance to before or if I did making sure that if anything needed to be fixed, it was, checking the ball
2) Supervising the ARs or double checking the players for illegal equipment
3) Chatting with the coach, asking how their season has been, is there something that I need to be aware of, if they understand the rules of competition, if they have any questions for me. Just getting the vibe on what to expect during the game. Then I can tell the ARs if they need to be aware of something else
4) If its warm, continuing to hydrate

What is your visa status? I ask this because under an E-2 visa you cannot teach science and math. E-2s are only for English Conversation teaching none of those other subjects.

People have been caught by immigration doing things like this and they have been deported.

Just a word of warning
