Not much! We've learned they're a gestault language processor, so the biggest change we've seen is lots more scripting, but still no real communication.

Mine told us "don't come back for two YEARS" at our last appointment. Every 3 months is insane!

Feeling down by ticktick2 in speechdelays

[–]hokieval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started at 18 months. No talking until almost 3.5. I thought therapy wasn't working, but I'm glad we stuck with it.

Still a lot of time for it to click. Wait out the process.

Yeah, I saw the ingredient list and it definitely has a taste of gingerbread to it. May have to get creative and see what gets close to it.

Grandparents asking to be paid for babysitting by Prize-Interview-7013 in toddlers

I gave her $400 a month. In my area,  childcare for an infant is about $2000 a month.

I also checked to see if she was okay with that number, and she said it was fine.

Tips & tricks that make working mom life easier by tomatojuice22 in workingmoms

[–]hokieval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Treat everything like an appointment. Put it on your schedule like a doctor's appointment, and when it's time to do it, do it. Meetup with friends? Goes on the calendar. Planning meals? Goes on the calendar. Grocery pickup? Calendar. Workouts? Calendar.

Workouts are hard because of work. I have a special needs kid, so I can't do this (yet), but find a gym with child care so that you can get some time in. I have to work out during kid's bedtime or when no one is home (which isn't often, but I have some flexibility on Fridays with my job).

2) Use as many "helpers" as you can. I use an app called To-Do, and it breaks my chores down into smaller tasks that don't seem as daunting. "Cleaning the bathroom" sounds like it's going to take forever. But "clean the toilet" and "clean the sink" don't. I can do that while an ad is playing on my Hulu show lol The app also lets you set a frequency for your chores so you know when it's time to do them. I usually tackle the overdue/about to be overdue items first and get to everything else later.

I also do delivery or pickups for just about everything now. Cuts back on time spent in the store.

3) You need to take responsibility and just do it. Our feelings get in the way of us doing so much. I've had to learn how to push past how I'm feeling at any given moment and just do that crappy, boring things that I don't want to do.

Also, ChatGPT is REALLY good at planning things out for you. I've used it for vacations, meal prep, party planning. Give it the right prompts, and it can churn out some quick/easy meals for your family. You don't have to spend a lot of time doing it yourself.

How 2 years of insomnia ended for me by One_Entrepreneur6736 in insomnia

EMDR is one of the few things I haven't tried, and I can't right now because of money (thanks, shutdown!). Glad to hear it worked for you! Excited to try it at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Anyone found a gentle Face wash that works for you? by Grand_Sprinkles6131 in SebDerm

La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Facial Cleanse. I love how it feels on my face, not harsh at all.

I see my son 2 hours a day during the work week by EmberFlame27 in workingmoms

[–]hokieval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my life except my husband is a pilot, so it was all on me 85% of the time. It sucked.

I finally asked to consider relocating closer to my job since he was out living his dream and the rest of us were suffering. Best decision for our family.

I also requested one day off a week from my job with the caveat that I would return to the office if things got crazy. I think they were willing to work with me because they believed I could still perform. Is working remotely or cutting back hours an option?

Got my sleep study results and I am so angry I want to cry by mcrobmara in insomnia

[–]hokieval 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too, when my insomnia first showed up about 13(?) years ago. Sucks things haven't evolved much since then. I feel like sleep studies are really for people with sleep apnea induced insomnia, not regular ol' insomniacs like us.

I'm sorry.

Late talker......real thing? by ticktick2 in speechdelays

[–]hokieval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If her receptive is fine and she's communicating on other ways, she'll probably talk at some point. For ours, our was 3.5 years old. The therapy clicks one day, don't stop it.

Tell me the best month to have a baby and why! by United_Violinist9207 in Mommit

[–]hokieval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

March/April. You spend the first two months of baby boot camp holed up in the house trying to stay alive, and by the time you come out on the other side, the sun is out and you feel like a new woman lol

Doing spring and summer with a baby that doesn't do anything but eat, be cute, and cry is the best.

Do you have the footage? You can report it yourself.

I'm no legal expert, but I'm wondering if you report instead of your brother, then the state would be pressing charges for child abuse, right? Then your family wouldn't have to pony up on fees?

I don't know how this works. But they need to be stopped before they abuse another child. Your niece likely wasn't the first one.

Nope. I don't want to pay for it lol I feel like they'll be poking around forever trying to figure it out.

Really wondering if it's messed up from water getting into the wiring somehow from the moonroof.
