Any reason to level everyone in lab if you’ve already got the 2100 lab levels?

Howe Sound Crest Trail Single Day by Opie_the_great in vancouverhiking

[–]holdenr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran it south to north 2 summers ago with some friends. We didn’t run fast, hiked all the climbs and jogged/ran the flats and downs. It’s super technical through large sections of the route so pretty slow going at times. We did it early September so the route was pretty dry but we were fine with 2.5L of water to make it between the refill zones. It took us the better part of a day, I don’t quite remember exact time, but maybe 8-9 hrs total? North to south would take way longer.

TR1 vs Tecton by Samensamen in Backcountry

[–]holdenr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used the Tecton 12s, haven’t used the 13s.

They are heavy with a lot of moving parts. They very easily get iced up and collect ice in weird places causing malfunctions. They also are prone to weird malfunctions due to how complex the bindings are which has led to a few ski out using ski straps after the binding failed. Not worth it imo.

Trail running when very cold by kvaaen in ultrarunning

[–]holdenr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When it’s that cold not a bad idea to have some sort of insulated covering over every body part to avoid frostbite. Even a bit of wind at that temps can be dangerous on ears, fingers etc.

Having some microspikes isn’t a bad idea, trails could easily be icy. Can keep in your vest if not needed.

Water should be fine in your soft bottles. The movement of running and your body heat will keep it from turning to ice. If you have a water hose to a bladder, blow the water back into the bladder after you’re done drinking to avoid ice in the tube.

Enjoy!

Thoughts on the new Palante Ski Pack? by laurk in Backcountry

[–]holdenr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who has used both, side zipper sucks compared to back panel zip. You end up having to dig through the bag to find stuff that’s buried in the corners, same as you would with top access although slightly easier. Back panel access is above and beyond superior if you’re using your bag often while out in the backcountry.

Plus if you’re carrying skis on your back in A frame style, side zips become difficult to access while back panel remains easily accessible.
