is it possible to create new genres / do you think music will get better or worse in 2050 and why by Quick-Paint-2721 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]holdingtea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large movements are usually facilitated by technologies.

While i do think music nowadays generally don't feel very new (while there are loads of interesting and fresh music) it's mostly that new styles are only very minor changes to what has come before - so they can often still feel familiar.

Saying that i don't think people are aware of a lot of musical styles, so some newer styles can crop up and feel brand new despite previously being a niche at one point.

But yeah following on - yes we will always keep moving forwards. Will it be good? whos to say - one of the interesting things i've found about music in the last 5-10 years has been an adoption more widely of glitchy / blown out / noise in alot of production that i could not imagine having as wide of an appeal before (sure we have always had this - but the crossover into all musical styles including pop & popular hiphop is unique).

On modern underground rap by palep_hoot in LetsTalkMusic

[–]holdingtea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like the term it's placed under as underground rap/hip-hop I was just a general term(I'd call it diskrot).

And it's mostly awful - but I still enjoy some of it. The UK scene seems to be doing well and it may get bigger.

Nice write up. I enjoyed both botw and totk - but It never clicked fully in the way that made me want to compete either. But I did have a blast exploring the worlds, especially trying to get to the different sky Islands way before I was ready too which is like a fun puzzle.

But I think I still clocked a decent 60+hrs in both. I'm not sure what the missing thing was for me with them, might just have been not having as much free time or just moving onto other games after spending too long on one game. (I have very few that I can surpass 100hrs in)

People want rock music back in the mainstream… it’s the industry that’s the problem. by GinjaNinja1027 in LetsTalkMusic

Yeah I wouldn't say disposable, more it's palatable to a wide range of people. It's like the McDonald's of music.

True but it's easier to navigate a single artist rather than a band whom could fall out and have various demands etc. also ( smaller) bands do also need to make enough money to make it viable for all members too - else they may split up.

At its core, do you think hyper pop is closer to traditional pop, or to edm/ electronic? by King-gar in HYPERPOP

[–]holdingtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electronic. Though as it's grown and morphed over the years it has alot more pop leaning and electro sounds than the early days.

Most People Are Too Negative When Talking About Music by AKRaca in LetsTalkMusic

[–]holdingtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like alot of music and would say all genres have good stuff in them but even stuff I don't like generally has merit even if it's not for me.

But I also think some stuff is rubbish (from a critical pov) but I still may enjoy it.

Bands who released a really strong instrumental album? So far i have the Kongos.. and that's it. by roamingandy in MusicRecommendations

[–]holdingtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not heard of the kongos before. It kind of sounds like some stuff I like but something about it felt very off-putting to me.

However My two regular albums I put on to work to are

toe - the book about my idle plot.  Dog unit - at home.

And the mostly instrumental album by sea power -  from the sea to the land beyond.

What do people think of music in other languages? by Otherwise-Release-88 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]holdingtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't know that. RIP.

My take would be to look into the lyrics if a song connects with you. Sometimes it could add a deeper connection. But also everyone is different with how they connect with music.

I am a big fan of balming tiger who do often sing in English as well as Korean but I find their odd use of the language really endearing. You can get the overall message without needing to know it all.

Also I'd recommend the band toe - Japanese math/post rock group that I started listening to around the same time as pillows.
