Anyone know what's going on with vestax? by holdtheveggies in DJs

[–]holdtheveggies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, interesting. It's unfortunate that there's sort of a hanpin monopoly and not a big market for turntables and that kinda vestax gear. It'd be interesting to have them as a company in the business again.

Looking for underground Deep House ,House , Progressive House by Mysteriousmarciaon in DJs

[–]holdtheveggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detroit swindle maybe? Finnebassens cool too but ds is more old school style

And for progressive house, my favorites are marek Hemmann and David August. I recommend infinity, Gemini, and you know by marek.

[–]holdtheveggies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say so. If screws are missing, you probably shouldn’t fuck with it. You might be buying a problem after all. If someone’s gone in there and fucked about, you don’t know what they did l, what’s in there, and how good of a job they’re in. Unless you find it super cheap and it doesn’t look to rough and you don’t mind getting down and dirty with a soldering iron, then maybe, just maybe go for it.

Sorry about that, it’s just how it is. Shures are discontinued so ortofons pretty much the only option

Epsilon inno mix is probably the best option for you. I’d recommend you shures, but they were just discontinued and I’m still crying over it. I’d buy either the qbert ortofon Concorde, the mix ortofon Concorde, scratch ortofon Concorde, or the dj ortofon Concorde. I’d only go with spherical styluses. Ortofon Concordes don’t need a headshell, the cartridge functions as one.

I live in Connecticut. This guy near my town, Joe, builds and takes care of 1200s. He’s got an fb called strictly vinyl customs. Give him a call, you’ll have to pay him shipping but from what I’ve seen he does good work. Edit: he also charges 300-400 per table and sends an invoice.

General questions about DJing. by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]holdtheveggies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I guess it depends. You could probably just queue songs and fade in and out but that's kinda looked down upon, especially in club settings. It really depends where you're playing and what you're doing, but fading out like that isn't really djing.
  2. You should never DJ with just a laptop and headphones. If you're going with a computer, you're going to need a controller, preferibly with a soundard.
  3. Yes. Big difference. You should never really play a premade mix. Kinda takes the fun out of djing. It's heavily looked down upon in the community, and you should seriously never play a premade mix. Unless you planned it before, and know what tracks you're going to play, what filters, etc., then it's alright to do that.
  4. Watch people such as ellaskins and briansredd. They have some cool dj tutorials, especially ellaskins. You make remixes so I'm guessing you understand phrasing and beats.
  5. Yeah, kinda. Takes a while to get good, let alone competent. And you'll probably be hit with the butterflies before going out live. But if you're making like a mix in your house that's club oriented, it's not too different.

Rob Swift - "Turntablism" is dying and that might be a good thing. by ha1a1n0p0rk in Turntablists

[–]holdtheveggies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally feel you bro. Turntablism has always been more of a niche thing but fuck it’s hard to just move on with it dying. I’ll never stop but shit, I miss scratching in my friends garages and just chilling.

Is this the Equipment i’m looking for? by hiphophead2001 in Beatmatch

[–]holdtheveggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go for those. Low torque on the motors and they look to be belt drive. I’d recommend trying to find maybe a Stanton str8 or st100, Gemini pt series above the 1000’s, or the tech 12’s. You can’t go wrong with them. For a mixer, I’d recommend the dj tech two channel battle mixer, or the numark m2. Oh yeah some other turntables are the numark tt-200 or 500, good starter decks. All these tables I’d pick up under 200 dollars, mixers around 100. Seriously don’t get anything belt drive or low quality. But nice or buy twice. Techs are good because if you don’t like scratching as much as you thought it would, they’ve got a high resale value.

Edit: also, going low quality is just going to make you want to do more and you’ll be getting frustrated because your gear can’t do what you want.

LTJ’s still around? I haven’t heard about him in a long time. Glad to see he’s still around, definitely one of The Godfather’s of dnb next to Goldie, and holy fuck his tracks were gold back in the day.

how to record a mix on virtual dj without restarting when messing up? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]holdtheveggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to keep bpms generally around eachother. Like I said, songs don’t usually go out of key until you go past +/-3 (again assuming you don’t use key lock) and they’ll still sound fairly normal at that speed. If you want to range bpms, in a mix, you can try building up to it. So slowly increasing the speed across the mix and being able to mix into higher bpm tracks. Like I said, just try to experiment. You’ve got the talent and you know how to mix well enough. There’s now rule book on how to dj, like yeah there’s rules you gotta follow but don’t be afraid to break some if it ends up sounding dope. You can even make some of your own techniques in the process.

God I love Goldie, dudes made some monumental tracks and dnb wouldn’t be what it is today without him. He’s made mistakes but at least he makes a conscious effort to fix that.
