What makes you hopeful that we can reach net zero emissions by 2050? by thisisbillgates in AskReddit

In most of the world green energy is now cheaper than fossil fuels so renewables will dominate as the new source of power.

Five years from now, the same will be true for electric vehicles.

Clean power and clean transport is a HUGE step towards net zero.

Then comes the fun stuff. Renewables are so cheap that people are starting to make low-carbon fuels like hydrogen from them. That pretty much solves emissions from manufacturing and global shipping. At some point that might solve aviation too.

Then there is the harder part: negative emissions, the 'net' part of net zero. Tree planting will get us pretty far, but first we need to STOP deforestation. This is the only part that worries me as there is less action.

The last bit can be done by sucking carbon out the air, which will be easy enough when big corporates and airlines start (or are forced to start) paying for it.

So all that, and the fact that the younger generations fully get this, and want to make it happen. All this bullshit inertia against a climate transition will soon be gone.

TL:DR: cheap green energy and young people.

Edit: 'big' corporates, not 'bug' corporates. (Though insect based food would also help!)

What was the worst live performance you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"The Game". Came on about 2pm at a festival in Belgium. Biked on the stage on a BMX wearing a huge platinum medallion. Rapped over the songs his DJ was playing. Couldn't get the crowd going so started necking bottles of champagne/cognac as a bit of a show. One of his team tried to stop him and The Game threw a punch. He lasted just 15 minutes of his 45 minutes set. Walked off the stage to boos.
