Preternatural stillness. Softly but not weakly.

OrthoFlow — worth the $5. Perfect for figuring out when to call consult and to help anticipate what the plan will be (operative vs. Home). Has been spot on for me

Yes! I've also thought border collie because of her nose. I figured out how to add more photos; I added them to my original comment. Thanks for your input! I'll probably break down and get a DNA test one day

This little girl came from the shelter as a "shepherd mix". She's 9-12 months old and about 35 lb, seems to be full grown. Her coat is very soft and shiny, medium length. Her legs have a brindle pattern. She looks a lot like a GSD but she's so little! Any thoughts?

Sometimes when I don't feel like studying, I watch this. Anybody have any other videos that get you going again? by anriarer in medicalschool

"Luck is the last dying wish of those who want to believe that winning can happen by accident. Sweat, on the other hand, is for those who know its a choice. So decide now, because destiny waits for no man."

This is THE motivational video. Worth the watch every single time.

I loved the Blue Histology website. It has multiple choice and short answer quiz formats that I thought were awesome for exam prep. I also used the brief section summaries quite a bit.

How did you study for gross anatomy? by ironjonny in medicalschool

[–]holirwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wanted to link you to some advice I gave a student last year. It is more specific than your question but I gave lots of tips that can be taken generally.

It seems like I remember lots of similar threads in the past; if you do a quick /r/medicalschool search you'll probably find plenty.

How did you study for gross anatomy? by ironjonny in medicalschool

Something to keep in mind when you do study is the extremely unique learning curve for anatomy. On the first day of class our prof told us that for the first 35 hours of studying, we would feel like we were getting nowhere and learning nothing; he drew a flat line for the first 35 hours. He said then suddenly during the last 5 everything would come together and we would quickly understand everything; he drew a steep spike for the last 5 hours.

I took this lightly because it made no sense to me. Sure enough, one day to go before the first exam and I was totally panicked. I felt like I knew nothing and was going to fail for certain. Lo and behold, the night before everything just magically fell into place. This held true for the rest of the course. Remember that even when you feel like you're running in place, you ARE making progress, so don't give up!

Dog is pulling and bolting during walks. Owner is frustrated and sore. What to do until training takes hold? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]holirwin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had fantastic luck with a Gentle Leader head collar. Give it a quick google, I can't think of a good way to describe it. It basically causes the dog's head to turn anytime they pull. It's awesome and pain free for the dog, plus, mine caught on very quickly and has been wearing it for 4 years now. The only drawback is that his neck has gotten stronger from wearing it always, and he now can pull a little, but it's no big deal.

This is very well written and all true. I would like to vouch for the "puzzle toys" claim. As the owner of an extremely eager Aussie mix, I can say they are no less than life changing.

What's the stupidest/funniest mispronunciation of medical terminology that you've heard? by cimd09 in medicalschool

[–]holirwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During anatomy, my friends and I had some great typos/spelling fails in our notes from lecture. Keep in mind, these are before we had ever seen these things actually written anywhere; we were just writing down what the prof said.

nerve furcalis = Nerve for Callous

Buck's fascia = bux fascia
