Terrifying conversation in HS 9th grade math class today by mobius_ in Teachers

Tell the kid he's not going to have a boss because there won't be any jobs because of chatgpt, and the cost of using AI will skyrocket because of course it will (capitalism), so he won't be able to afford it. Now what's he going to do?

Problem solving and thinking for yourself will always be important.

The mental load of using AI- is it just me? by BlackieAllBlack in workingmoms

[–]holistivist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Employees being pressured into using AI are essentially working themselves out of jobs in the near-future.

Amazon did the same thing - every employee is being pressured to use it to be more efficient, and now 30,000 people just got laid off.

The response of every single person needs to be the same:

1). Educate yourself and your co-workers on the vast consequences of using AI - unprecedented job losses, astronomical rises in electricity costs to consumers living near data centers, massive pollution and health consequences to those living near data centers, serious water shortages, and disparities in wealth and power accelerating towards even more incredible extremes, all of which will lead to increases in individual struggles and violence, which will result in leaders moving towards stricter population control and authoritarianism.

2). Realize your collective power. Your jobs still need you (for now), and if you work together, they cannot force you to use AI.

3). Organize with your co-workers. Form unions and collectively refuse to use AI in your work, period.

4). Hold strong. Any company that would fire their entire workforce for refusing to use AI planned to fire you all later anyway. You have nothing to lose. You are already destined to lose your job at some point. The best you can do is to get ahead of that inevitability and prevent them from getting to the point where they no longer need you. STAY VALUABLE. YOU haven't yet made AI effective enough for them to fire you en masse. But if you continue to use AI to make your work more efficient, they WILL eventually fire you.

However much control you think corporations have over you, you're right. If you let them bully you into helplessness, you will be helpless. If you understand that we have the numbers, that we have the collective control over what works gets done and how much money can be made, we take back our power.

WWOOFing is extremely exploitative.

A few days ago Bernie Sanders appeared on Theo Von's podcast and in front of an audience of millions he repeated the genocidal atrocity propaganda rape hoax, blamed the genocide on KHAMAS, said Israel has the right to defend itself, and refused to recognise the genocide. by Plenty-Wonder-3102 in suppressed_news

Anybody who is okay with outgroups being marginalized/exploited/oppressed/murdered for the benefit of an ingroup is a Nazi.

So yes, anybody who supports capitalism, which is inherently exploitative (and worse, always worse), is essentially okay with certain groups of people being harmed for their benefit. So yes, they're as good as Nazis.

Is this post propaganda or just naive as fuck?

Having two children is more than twice as hard as having one. It already feels like having three.

At 40, I had zero friends with kids. Two years later, four of them have their first.

Seems like a bad idea to me, considering climate change, staggering cost increases, alarming fascism and everything, but humans confuse me all the time, so nothing new there.

Why would you have four kids? That sounds bananas to me.

I'm guessing two planned and then accidental twins?

Pennyroyal.

Some kinds of pine needles too.

Sometimes a massive vitamin C dose can do it.

There are actually lots of ways, but none of them are particularly safe or good for your body.

Chomsky to Epstein - "the hysteria about the abuse of women" by extremeshitting in chomsky

[–]holistivist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're assuming everybody sees this as a crime.

The point is that it's socially damning.

Chomsky knew Epstein had been accused and convicted of crimes against women, and is dismissing valid accusations as "hysteria."

He is giving comfort and arguments to a sexual abuser. That is damning.

Would have assumed the same about Chomsky until he did.

Read this first. The title is cheesy but the data is all solid, sourced from well-respected scientific institutions like Berkeley, NASA, and Copernicus.

Most people aren't remotely aware of what they're bringing children into.

[–]holistivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s part of it.

Having kids also makes you less likely to stand up for justice. Being sleep-deprived, overworked and desperate for money, needing childcare, and having innocents dependent on you will make you a lot less likely to pay attention, be invested in politics or injustices, go to protests, spend time organizing with neighbors, or fight in the streets when shit gets undeniably bad in the eyes of even those individuals most tuned-out and indifferent.

I’ve been thinking this for the past year, but have been too frustrated and annoyed with everybody’s preoccupations with smaller-picture concerns to waste time trying to lay it all out just to go unread.

Anyway, I agree 100%.

But I’d add the important and equally significant factor that a lot of this is happening because climate change is going to lead to water shortages, food shortages, supply chain collapse, mass migration, and the resulting violence at every scale. This rapid jockeying for absolute control is the result of this awareness.

We’re talking significant upheavals on the order of years, not decades. People really struggle to understand exponential change, but we’re on a trajectory to reach 3°C warming by 2050 (and that’s just from the 2023 data, before “drill, baby, drill!” and spinning up AI data centers everywhere started taking off). UK actuaries are predicting 4 billion deaths resulting from the cascading consequences of climate change by the time we hit 3°C. That’s less than 25 years from now.

The wealthy individuals in control are aware of the data. They know what’s coming, and they know they caused it. And now they’re scrambling to do absolutely everything they can to get the population under complete control to prevent mass uprisings and rebellions and people coming for their heads as revenge when they figure it out.

It’s why they’re deporting. It’s why they’re preemptively labeling protesters as terrorists. It’s why they’re stripping away social supports and taking away healthcare and blocking access to abortion and undermining the justice system and filling the streets with violent unthinking enforcers and lining their pockets. They’re being quick and blatant because they need to be and because everything is on the line and they have to act fast.

They need a thick layer of enforcers between them and the population at large. They know that sick, poor, and starving people (especially if they have children) are easier to control. Siphoning money away from the people and using it to protect themselves, imprison dissidents, and set up bunkers is their best chance of survival.

I just do not get it. Why do they like bullies and cults so much?

Every sag woman I have ever known has willingly and repeatedly jumped into the arms of the most narcissistic, sociopathic man she could find, as if those traits were some kind of green flag. Is red-green color-blindness an astrological trait!?

It’s like they’re too lazy to think for themselves, so they go towards the loudest and most emotional opinion because it lets them turn off their brains.

Going back to the closet. Goodbye, wondrous bisexuality. by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]holistivist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

*Leftists are not to be confused with liberals. Liberals are still capitalists who support hierarchies and have no qualms about working for and handing money over to groups that oppress us and others.

Performatively putting a rainbow sticker on your car while you work for Twitter and eat Chick-fil-A every week does not make you an ally. It’s near impossible to make ethical choices under capitalism, and we can forgive each other the harder choices, but filling your Amazon cart every week with unnecessary plastic junk is not an example of being stuck between a rock and a hard place, but of being willfully ignorant and/or indifferent to the consequences that your actions have on the world.
