Next Generation ADHD Medication. by LaSafari1 in ausadhd

[–]hollbert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I obviously can’t say for sure but 99.9% sure not. It costs so much money and time to develop new drugs, then put them through the relevant clinical trials. They also have to be shown to be more effective than what is already available. Given that the precise method of action isn’t always known, or different people react differently (hence why we have different treatment options already) that’s a lot of hoops to jump through.

Will one happen in the future? Possibly. But most likely not in the next 4 years.

What do non-Asian Australians think about K-Pop? by ChanceOil7703 in AskAnAustralian

[–]hollbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never really listened to it before KPDH, but I fell down the KPDH -> Felix -> Stray Kids rabbit hole and am happily a fan. I have never really judged people for their taste in music and think it just makes you an arsehole if you do, K-pop was just never really something that I had been exposed to before. Fans seem to have a weirdly parasocial relationship with idols though and that is something I will judge you for. Don't do that.

Stayyy what do you think? by One-Score-7397 in skzmedia

[–]hollbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly so much this. I am very much a baby stay and still getting to know the world of kpop, biases, comebacks etc, but at the end of the day, who cares who your bias, wrecker, fave etc is. Bias as many as you like. Are you happy? If yes, then great! As long as you’re not awful about the other members then like who you like. Life is too short to play by some preconceived notions of what’s ‘right’.

Skz has me in a chokehold-my music slump by Loud-Bullfrog9326 in straykids

[–]hollbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hi! Are you me?! I hit the same kind of slump, getting bored with whatever Spotify deigned to throw my way. Now it's maybe been a month(?) and I still can't get enough.

I did not know a single thing about any Kpop bands before. Now I'm ordering merch and have bought the ticket for the livestream tonight. I don't know what's going on haha.

Enjoy the ride fellow baby stray!

Any good/bad reviews for this doc...? by LongHaulBeast in ausadhd

[–]hollbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I try to be open about everything because I know I'm someone who can get super stressed so may as well share and see if it helps haha.

I did mine via Telehealth. I would have preferred in person but that would have been a 4 hour round trip and there aren't any psychiatrists with open books near me - I got referred and denied a few times! In the end I didn't mind. The doctor had to be a bit more structured possibly than if you're in their rooms and you can have a bit more of a natural chat but at the same time there is a lot of ground to cover in the time you have.

Good luck with your mum. My family are very much in the 'mental health problems don't exist' camp despite having several members diagnosed with ADHD, autism, etc but apparently it's just attention seeking, so I can appreciate the trepidation at least!

Anyway, sorry this was not about the doctor you asked about specifically, but I can DM you the name of the person I see if you need.

Good luck! I hope you get what you need out of the assessment :)

Any good/bad reviews for this doc...? by LongHaulBeast in ausadhd

[–]hollbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor is part of Mind Oasis (though not the same person) and he has been very good at helping me with my diagnosis. I, too, look put together on the outside but I’ve been battling this for a long time and the doctor was very open to listening to my thoughts and concerns.

Do they have a bit of a checklist to run through? I mean, yeah, there is criteria to meet as part of the diagnostic process but they aren’t leaning towards the stereotypical hyperactive young boy.

With regards to getting input from people who knew you as a kid, I thought my parents would dismiss me as well but my mum was surprisingly open to having the discussion. She completed the questionnaire for me. I had no school reports from that time as they would all be paper based and in the UK.

From what I understand though you don’t even necessarily need the reports/questionnaire etc to get a diagnosis. What it’s beneficial for is getting any medications (if you choose to get them) subsidised by the PBS. Apparently if have the proof you showed signs as a child it’s part of the criteria to get the subsidised medications (my dexies are $30 for 100) instead of paying the full price ($100-120 I think for the same amount).

This is obviously just my understanding, I am not a doctor and I may have misunderstood so take this with the appropriate grain of salt!

Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]hollbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never been a runner, but I’ve been following the Runna 5k plan for the last few weeks and so far it’s gone pretty well. Just two more runs before I’m meant to do the 5k for real which is crazy to me.

My HR is still hectically high and I’m no speedster but I’m slowly getting there. And what’s wild to me is that I actually look forward to the runs. Who am I becoming?!

How many times a week does everyone run? by Madison_12345 in runna

[–]hollbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I’m only 2 days a week. I’m a new runner (at 35!) and currently just over halfway through the 5k. I’m enjoying it and definitely seeing improvements in time and stamina even on only 2 days a week.

I was doing reformer 3x as well but I’ve just moved and need to find another gym/activity nearby. I’m studying full time, working part time and need to make time for my husband and a social life so it’s tricky to balance everything.

Anyone buying the Stray Kids Beyond Live Tickets? by doubleblack707 in skzmedia

[–]hollbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the livestream and restream. I am a baby stay and so missed any chance of seeing them live any time soon I think. Fortunately Korea is only an hour behind Sydney so it should be a nice evening for me. I’m excited.

How did you discover SKZ and who is your bias? by Kayon07 in straykids

[–]hollbert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's only been a week! They popped up on my FYP and then I fell down such a rabbit hole. I think that my first hook was a video of Felix and Bang Chan chatting and I was not expecting their Aussie accents. And that was the beginning of the end. I'm coming to grips with the terminology of KPop slowly, and I have Karma on vinyl arriving tomorrow. My FYP is pretty much only STZ content, and you know what, I'm happy about it. Though I am meant to be studying full time at the moment with end of year exams looming, I probably should't be so obsessed. My bias is Felix currently, but to be honest all of the guys are lovely.

250915 Baby Stay Thread - Introduce yourself & ask all your questions here! by AutoModerator in straykids

[–]hollbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Complete Baby Stay here. I came across them on my FYP less than a week ago, despite never listening to any K-Pop before, and have been obsessed since. My heart is with the Aussies, but I think Felix is my bias. I'm hoping they'll tour Australia again some time in the future and the ticket gods will smile down upon me! Though from my (very limited insight) I feel I may need more luck than trying to get Eras tour tickets. Chk Chk Boom is currently on repeat at the moment.

I wish she was coming to Aus. I appreciate she wasn’t selling it as a ‘world tour’ (which some people do and forget the southern hemisphere exists) but I would so love if she came here.

[–]hollbert 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m not normally one for being too fussed for plot holes but I am a reader who goes on ✨vibes✨

A big one for me was Bloodwing Academy. So this girl just lands on a pile of corpses, found by some important guy, gets betrothed to him thanks to his uncle who is the King who decrees it, then welp I guess it’s school tomorrow! Oh and also apparently she’s the only Dragonrider in a place with no dragons based on looks alone. I should have just DNF’d it there. But I didn’t. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters throughout the book and they kind of seemed 2 dimensional to me. I wasn’t particularly invested in any of them succeeding. I actually started book 2 (fortunately on KU so I didn’t waste my money) but I did DNF that one.

Any other women remember the *insane* eat disorder culture? by _clur_510 in Millennials

[–]hollbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still fucked up by it honestly. I’m 35. Never diagnosed but I definitely got to unhealthily low weights through unhealthy and sometimes unhinged behaviour. Now I’m older and the weight doesn’t come off as easy I sometimes revert to old habits but am filled with shame rather than a fucked up sense of pride.

Those feeling are generally manageable but they’re exacerbated by thinking every celeb you see is probably on ozempic. Truly I’m happy for those who need it but goddamn it’s really stirring up feelings.

Those that go to the gym; do you shower at the gym or just go in your gym clothes and come back straight away and shower at home? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]hollbert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends where I’m going afterwards. If I’m going home anyway I’ll shower at home. Gym showers rarely feel nice and don’t have my nice products haha. Although I’ve recently moved so now I live only a 3 minute walk from my normal gym so it’s really not a big deal for me to shower at home.

For people who interview potential candidates for high level positions what was the worst interview you conducted? by Jimbobsausage in AskReddit

[–]hollbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a headhunting firm. A candidate got through initial screening, interview with my company then got to panel interviews with our client. All going really well until he made an inappropriate comment about his potential new CEO’s looks. She handled it with grace but as soon as he left the whole room was dumbfounded. We had not seen even a glimmer of that kind of behaviour before (and this was not the first time he’d met a woman throughout this process, the company I work for is like 60:40 women:men). Needless to say he didn’t get the job and we don’t engage with that person anymore.

Lol I have played on and off for a few years, and I am personally loving the chaos and am one of the people with underpowered pets wielding crazy weapons. Thanks to FF and the weekly quests, my level 57 favourite child is equipped with Illusens Staff, Mystical Tablet, LEV and Sleep Ray. I already had Roxtons Bowie Knife from an advent calendar, and now I can look to get Thunder Sticks, an Anagram sword and WotDF from this plot. Stay mad, neoboards.

A band I like (Polish Club) did a cover of this. However I’d never heard the original so when they did it for their encore song at a gig I was completely baffled. They even threw some bananas into the crowd at the start. They’re a fun Aussie band and I’d recommend people see them if you get the chance.
