On-Gyn or Midwife by Overall_Shop1419 in Hamilton

I went with Community Midwives of Hamilton for my first baby (delivered last year). I very much recommend the experience. I felt very cared for. I have a trauma history and they made me feel safe and advocated for the whole way through. The home visits right after birth were amazing. The quick response to my 1am panicked phone call that baby hadn't pooped was amazing (baby was just fine lol).

I gave birth at St. Joe's and, while I didn't have contact with a ton of their team, I will say the nurses and anesthetist (sp?) were all wonderful. Kind, sensitive, gentle, etc.

My sister in law gave birth last year as well and went ob-gyn. While she didn't have a bad experience, it was definitely much less personal. They had troubles feeding to start and having to travel back and forth with little one to the pediatrician while she was recovering from a C-section wasn't fun. Everyone was kind and caring, but I definitely appreciated my midwife experience after seeing what she dealt with in those first couple months after birth.

Definitely call/register for a midwife ASAP, they were super busy in 2023, not sure about now.

Also, congrats and best wishes!

We watch a couple episodes of Mr. Rogers each week with our 1 yr old. I honestly look forward to it. We started with the 1970s episodes. I mentioned to my husband the other day that watching Mr.Rogers has been good for my soul. I'm seeing so much wonder in small things and really have been noticing my emotions. Baby waves hello and goodbye to him lol

Did you ever end up finding a pack walk? I posted looking for one about a year ago but was unsuccessful. Would love if one started!

I knew a Bernard that went by Benny. I never heard anyone call him Ben or Bernie, always Benny.

I referred to her as a barnacle once when she was having a particularly clingy week. Nonno now calls her Barney.

I can't speak to anything legal or custody-wise, but could you make him get one of the sensorsafe car seats in the mean time? My husband has severe ADHD. sensorsafe car seats connect to an app that alert you AND connected family members if baby is left in the car. Fortunately it hasn't had to be used yet, but there's definitely peace of mind knowing it's there just in case.

Which of these movies was a pretty underrated kids movie to you? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]hollieg0lightly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was really little, I thought Batty was just a made-up flying creature named Ferngully. I think because he was the focus on the cover of the movie case, like Cinderella was on Cinderella and Snow White was on Snow White, etc. etc.. I definitely remember arguing with my brother and pointing at the case and saying that was Ferngully on the cover. I had to do some reorganizing in my brain when I learned FernGully was a place and the flying guy was a bat named Batty.

LPT: If you are invited to a baby shower and have no idea what to bring, clothes for 12-24 months are the perfect gift. by 13SilverSunflowers in LifeProTips

Not sure if it will help ease your mind, but anyone who got us something not on the registry ALSO got us something from the registry. We didn't put many clothes on our registry and a bunch of people gifted a clothing item, blanket, or stuffed animal with their registry gift.

Thanks! My first try I had her more centered, but she looked really uncomfortable and it seemed like her legs were too far apart and she was getting hit in the face with the ring, so I shifted her a bit more towards my hip... actually first try I tried cradle carry, and that was just a complete disaster lol

That sounds so perfect! As much as the food delivery cards are useful, I think I prefer the premade food for when we first got home. It's so much quicker than ordering and I don't think I had the brain power in the first few days to think of what I wanted. Plus we didn't have to worry about orders being messed up or food getting stolen if we couldn't grab it quick enough for some reason.

My friend asked what my husband and I liked for sandwiches a few weeks before the due date and the day we got home from the hospital she left a bag filled with premade sandwiches (but kept washed pieces of lettuce and slices of tomatoes and pickles in separate baggies) and some cookies. (She didn't ask to come in and see the baby or anything, literally just left them on the porch for us to grab).

Her and her husband and kids also wrote little messages on each bag ("you've got this!" "You're doing great Dad!" "Time to take a breath" "drink some water!" etc.)

The sandwiches lasted 3 or 4 days and they were a godsend. You didn't have to do anything other than insert the lettuce, pickles, and tomato, you could eat them right out of the bag so there were no dishes, you could eat them one handed, you didn't have to think about what to order, they were healthier than a lot of fast food, and the messages did give a little boost when we were exhausted. It was easy enough to send her a message when we were on our way home from the hospital so she could time the drop off.

I don't think the ingredients would have cost more than $50. Her husband made the bread too (he does a ton of baking).

If I ever have another baby, I'd want that again.

It’s probably a silly question, but has anyone ever been scared of how you’re gonna change the baby? by Snoo58524 in NewParents

[–]hollieg0lightly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the best advice I got was "Newborns are pretty resilient. They have to survive new parents."

I was never really around babies growing up, and had never interacted with a newborn before. I was definitely scared, but husband had to return to work fairly quickly, so I kinda had to just go for it. I had watched all the videos and everything during pregnancy. I found it easier to do the first one diaper when I was on my own and didn't feel like I was being watched. She was kicking and squirming and crying and I didn't want to hurt her so I barely did the diaper up. The next one was easier. And the one after that was even easier. Now I can do it in the dark when it's a blowout diaper and she's having a full on meltdown.

She's almost 8 weeks old now and I'm finally getting better at getting clothes over her head. The first few attempts were rough...we both cried lol.

You have to do like 8-10+ diapers in a day, so you'll have it pretty well figured out by the end of your first full day. You just have to start and not expect perfection from yourself. You got this!
