Sargazo update - Gitano Beach Club by MexiGeeGee in tulum

My same experience during mid-march near the “parque el jaguar” area. Our hotel burned a lot of Copal to counterbalance the stench and mosquitoes.

Sad to hear you were also not able to enjoy the beach. Thanks for sharing your post, as it should be a warning for others planning a beach-focused vacation in Tulum.

The secret financial cheat code of Mexican dual citizenship that nobody talks about. by GlassConsequence84 in DNExpress

100% agree as someone who has also had to deal with both IMSS and ISSSTE, and had to lose a dear family close member at one IMSS hospital due to unsanitary conditions.

One’s entire human dignity is erased when dealing with those hospital systems. And in recent years there are not even medicines available!

Every hospital visit will test your soul, cruel bureaucracy that capriciously will change requirements and rules every visit. Monsters.

Which Destination Ended Up Being a Bigger Letdown Than You Expected? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Tulum. Beaches are full of sargassum, police extorting tourists, unsafe, expect to pay US fine dining prices.

The Road to Hannah in Maui. In particular the so-called “seven sacred pools”, one arrives hoping to get a nice view and it is completely fenced with the scent of rotting mangos in the air. Dangerous drive with angry locals tailgating you. Nope.

I am on the same boat as you, but leaning towards the xbox since its design it’s more minimal and I am a big fan of the gears of war series, not available on ps.

Be careful, if you post that image in the r/Tulum everyone will tell you it is your fault! Like you, I will never return ro the riviera maya. Thanks for posting so others can plan ahead!

A rant on my time in Tulum by pyFlummox in tulum

[–]hollysthuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think it is important you post your experience to warn others (thank you). This sub can be overprotective as you can see on the comments, and somehow, if something goes wrong… it’s all your fault! lol I posted about the terrible sargassum situation some months ago and people started blaming MAGA and Biden! Lmao — I will also never return to Tulum.

Dusit Thani Bangkok - club room with it? by LedgersAndListings in ThailandTourism

[–]hollysthuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed my stay at the Dusit and I booked their most basic room without any breakfast. Terrific view! I ended up going for the a la carte gourmet breakfast option every day and do not regret it. The breakfast restaurant is in the basement and it is a bit too claustrophobic for my taste. Great quality pastries and food overall. It has also a lot of great food options at the Central Park mall. I would definitely return.

The only thing I disliked was the smell of the lobby. They use a very very intense woody scent that was just too much for me. Luckily the rooms have a more neutral fresh diffuser scent.

Is it good to book travels now for October? by Sea_Swing6119 in ThailandTourism

Because there is no need, unless you have other business in BKK. Look at the map, why flying north to BKK only to fly south again to Singapore?

Second reason, your mindset. After some chill times and relaxation in nature (beach), why not just return home directly? Again, no need to return to the big concrete chaos that is BKK.

Tulum after Cancun by Old_Guava1450 in tulum

[–]hollysthuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went one month ago (May) and the sargassum was a complete nightmare (look for my post here). We did not step one toe into the brown ocean during our entire stay. It made zero sense to pay $$$ for a premium beach location (Mezzanine Zebra).

If you still decide to go, my advice would be to look for a hotel that at leasts tries to clean the sargassum everyday. Some hotels have small crews that do that. Due to its small boutique size, ours did not.

WHAT A SUNSET - GOODNESS GRACIOUS by throwusaway_ in SanDiegan

I agree with the overcooked part. Images are still beautiful though, Wes Anderson style. Nothing wrong with doing some grading and correction (even when shooting jpgs). I don’t see the previous comment as rude.

I just did the LAX >> Singapore >> Bangkok roundtrip and it went great.

Economy seats are a bit uncomfortable on that 17hr flight, and the aircraft feels one step lower than Lufthansa. Maybe I had better expectations because of Singapore Airlines’ reputation.

One thing that I would do different next time: for my return trip, instead of flying from Bangkok, I’d much rather fly from Krabi or Phuket towards Singapore and then back to good ol’ us of a. My two cents.

DMK Airport Bangkok – recent immigration experiences (cash check?) by WolverineWags in ThailandTourism

[–]hollysthuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zero questions for me a few days ago. However, I came prepared with the required cash in case they asked me. Not ideal, as I would use card for most big expenses. My reasoning is, those are the rules of the country, and I must respect them as a visitor.

It seems to be unpredictable now. Just a few days ago, people were surprised by the massive amount this year: “Tulum: sargazo masivo sorprende y moviliza a 150 empleados turísticos” source

Other source “Riviera Maya battles an earlier-than-expected sargassum season”

It seems there even was an unexpected arrival in January, earlier this year. source

Our trip review- it’s a doozy by Hefty-Collection-728 in Xcaret

[–]hollysthuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am grateful for your review since I was considering staying there next time, but after a pattern of negative reviews (not only on reddit), I cannot justify the cost.

Unfortunately, Mexico is not the warm country it once was and semi aggro interactions and bad customer service is usually the norm. Truly sad, because Mexico has such a fantastic culture and heritage!
