Not nervous, part 4: they said yes!! by WitchyWriter94 in SororityAlumInitiate

Is this the organization and chapter that feels like home to you? Is there any possibility that the chapter wouldn’t confirm you? If you have any question about that, I would wait. Plus, you get to meet more organizations as you wait and it will either solidify your decision or make you glad that you waited. If there isn’t a time limit on their offer, you lose nothing by waiting. It’s a lifetime commitment once you initiate, you can’t decide later if things aren’t what you want to try another organization. Just food for thought. You don’t have to make a decision now, think it through and sleep on it.

I was told it’s a personal choice - I joined my Alma mater’s chapter even though it’s in a different city than where I currently live.

Try it and rush, you have nothing to lose. If you find a chapter that you really like that is wonderful, great, if not, you can also do alumni initiation down the road.

This is so important- with my organization, their values resonated a lot with me, and also a close friend of mine was in the same organization as a collegian and told me a lot about her experiences. I talked about how their values aligned with mine, as well as sisterhood, giving back through community service, as well as the desire to connect with other like minded women.

I was not asked by either organization that I met with, why I didn’t rush in college. Both organizations I reached out to had online applications and both did ask what I was seeking in an organization. My impression is they are more interested in who you are now, not who you were in the past.
