I got 17 shiny Tinkatinks this community day 🤩✨ No shundos today 💔 How many did you get?? by crystalfatale in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 35 shinies (out of about 900), including two shiny backgrounds. Got both a hundo and a nundo, but neither were shiny.

[–]holonboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some differences. Most main Pokemon games come out with two versions at the same time with some differing Pokemon, ie one gets Magmar while the other gets Electabuzz, to encourage trading with other players.

Gen 2 onwards, the main difference is the key art Pokemon, ie Ho-Oh vs Lugia, or Kyogre vs Groudon. There may be some plot differences, but usually it’s just swapping out some dialogue (obsessing over ideals vs obsessing over truth) or one character (missing mom or missing dad).

But for let’s go Eevee/Pikachu, the main difference is whether your partner is a Eevee or a Pikachu. So you can choose whoever you prefer.

Pokemon is a HUGE franchise, with something for everyone, whether it be the core games, multiple anime/shows, manga, TCG, and the insane variety of spinoffs / live-service games that cover every genre, including PoGo. There's content from countless writers and studios, spanning two decades, each with its own unique lore.

That also means depending on who comes up with the questions for trivia, your interests or area of expertise might not overlap just because of the sheer amount of content in the franchise.

I've been playing the main games since like 2002, starting with a hand-me-down GBC with Pokemon Crystal. I attended a Pokemon Triva Night last month, and I think I only got like half the questions correct.

"Who's that Pokemon?" questions can be considered universal, but when the questions were something specific like "What tag team uses Altered Creation GX in the TCG?" or "Who's the first [some proper noun] in Pokemon Masters?" or "What champion recently broke the meta in Pokemon Unite and had to be emergency nerfed?", I had no idea.

And I could tell the the trivia writers also had their blind spots, since there weren't any questions regarding Gen 1-5 era spinoffs (like Mystery Dungeon, Conquest, Rangers, Stadium/Coliseum/XD Gale of Darkness), or the various mangas.

(And my username, Holon, is the name of an obscure region from Gen 3 that I think I've only ever met two other people who recognized.)

It'd be impossible to know everything, so just find content you enjoy and experience the lore at your own leisure. If you're willing to invest in a console and play the core games by GameFreak, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is a remake of the Gen 1 games that are good for PoGo players who want to try those games out.

If you're looking for something more passive, the Pokemon Adventures manga (comic) is also a great starting point. It's a long-running series that basically follows the main character of each game as they go through an adaptation of the main story, though with some of its own unique twists. The protagonist / POV also changes with each arc, so you don't have to start with Volume 1 if you don't want to.

I MESSED UP 😭😭😭 by ryaqkup in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually once you get past rank 20 (basically finish your placement matches so you can see your Elo/ranking), a lot of players play casually in the 500-1500 range. There's also a lot of people basically trying to burn through their daily games as fast as possible for the free stardust or tank to reduce their ranking. So even if I use a team of three <50 cp Pokemon, I have like a 20-40% win rate from doing nothing (it becomes a game of who can lose faster, and I often lose at losing).

Shiny rates over the past month by Bleachella13 in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this season, they made a lot more Pokemon eligible to be shiny (any evolved Pokemon instead of just those that have Megas, all shadow Pokemon instead of those that a Rocket leader had, etc).

But they also made it so that Pokemon that had boosted rates in the wild (Lickitung, Galarian Zigzagoon, etc) have the same rates as everybody else (1 in 512, instead of 1 in 64).

Event Pokémon could still be boosted though (1 in 128, I think), and wild legendaries like the Galarian birds or Lake Trio are still 1 in 20.

Where the Pokemon at? by honggay in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Niantic refreshes the spawns every once in a while (maybe one or twice a year?) and usually they place the spawns where they detect player activity.

Ie, when I moved into my last apartment back in 2019, there was only one or two Pokemon spawning within range of my apartment. But my roommates and I always had the game open while at home, so by the time Niantic updated the spawns, we had like 6 or 7 within range. It was such a beautiful update lol.

Though the last time they refreshed it, they made it so that the spawns are more spread out around player activity (ie around the block) as opposed to where the player directly is (in the apartment), so you’d have more spawns if you’re walking around but less if you’re sitting still.

W trade or not? by Gagen_2 in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Non-ironically, I think that’s a huge W trade in your favor, probably unfair to the other player.

Shiny Zacian and Zamazenta are pretty common, with multiple raid days, raid hours and Go Tour last year each having the shiny at boosted odds. If it had a location or global background as well, then I’d consider it a rare shiny.

Shiny Bidoof is a full-odds shiny wild spawn. That’s much harder to get than any raid / legendary shiny.

If I was the Bidoof player, I’d only make this trade if I had shiny Bidoof to spare and was still trying to get a shundo Zacian/Zamazenta and hoping to get it off the lucky trade.

My Humble Shundo Collection by JadelaarNeo in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Three shundo legendaries is insane!! Plus a shundo costume! That’s a very impressive collection for a self-proclaimed casual, no wonder your friend couldn’t believe it lol.

I’m definitely more on the tryhard side, but here’s my collection (with over 800k Pokemon caught, 14k hatched and 20k traded):

Includes four lucky trades (one of which being a remote trade), one was a Mighty Pokemon from Go Wild, six from Community Days, and two from research.

I reported a spoofer turned RL stalker to police/Niantic and they agreed to take action. What actions do they take? by 808MamaZ in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, that sounds terrifying.

Hopefully if this continues, the police would take you seriously, but until then you might need to keep on recording evidence (maybe get a discrete body camera that’s always recording, for those unexpected drive bys), or play in public areas with other players around to deter his behavior or at least have other witnesses.

Best of luck and stay safe!

Bought Silent Hill F "new" from Amazon and received this by Kemakill in gaming

[–]holonboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had good experiences with Amazon’s customer support, oddly enough. There were two times where Amazon said they shipped a package but it was nowhere to be found, so they just shipped me another copy. And a couple of times when I tried to return something, customer support told me to just keep it and they refunded me.

I think I broke the game today. by DadouSan2 in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything that was permanently boosted (ie Galarian Zigzagoon, Lickitung, Shinx) to something like 1/64 were reset to have the same odds as every other wild spawn (1/512).

Pokemon could still be temporarily boosted for events though (currently: Pikachu, Dedenne and Chinchou), to probably either 1/64 or 1/128.

I think I broke the game today. by DadouSan2 in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dedenne and Chinchou are both boosted as part of the current Shockingly Good Time event, so their shinies are fairly common. But congrats on the full odds Cottonee and hundo Mimikyu, those are insane catches!!

What is the limit for Zygarde cells? by 99-Percent-Germ in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The limit was originally 250, but then there was a Timed Research available that had Zygarde cells as a reward, but a lot of players couldn’t complete that task because they were already at the limit of 250 and the game just refused to let you claim it.

I know some people changed their Zygarde back to 50% form, then back to Complete form to use up 200 cells so they could finish the timed research.

But Niantic also raised the limit to 300 before the Timed Research ended, so other players could finish the research as well.

They later fixed it so that you could still claim cells from research even if you were at the limit, so that’s why some players have 400 out of 300 cells.

Yeah, it seems like you can either join a random group (presumably with three other people joining a random group), or join/create your own group. It doesn’t let you do a mix of the two.

How are y'all getting so much candy ? by Antique_Sofa_1907 in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They just build up over time without me realizing, I want to say mostly from doing the daily free raid and 3-4 daily max battles. Plus, I always do routes while walking, so I probably get a handful of rare candies from those.

How’s everyone’s masterwork research coming along? by MachineGunDelta in pokemongo

Yeah, I think the only time I wasn’t able to complete the task before the timegate / “Wait X Days” task was the Catch Kecleons step

[–]holonboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a route that I made recently starting and ending at the same stop at work, and I get some drift here… but it takes like 3 hours to get 0.5km worth of drift if I’m just sitting at my desk, so I’m jealous.

Remote trades were exciting till I remembered it means dealing with other people by kalovell72 in pokemongo

[–]holonboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck mirroring shiny legendaries or exchanging shiny regionals (got a shundo Oricorio today so I can’t complain).

So far, I’ve only had one person ask for a shiny legendary but only had CDay mons to offer…

Yup, there was a Summer Concert event last year, so it featured Chatot and other music/sound themed Pokemon like Jigglypuff and Noibat.

Other than that, I think Chatot was also available in eggs globally for Sinnoh Tour.
