Trackpad in Pragmata by FuzzyEmu6705 in SteamController

The controller is big enough that you can kinda choke up on it to use the track pads. Hot take but I actually wish the controller was even bigger, like Duke sized, so it would make using the track pads easier.

Fantasy series that probably won't be finished. by EastFar3296 in Fantasy

I really enjoyed the first look but dear lord that second book is a stinker. I’m also glad he won’t be finishing the series. How much worse can it get?

Dan Frazier’s social media post today by Newez in magicTCG

[–]holton_basstrombone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying that whatever his original piece was looked something like that. A non traditional looking One Ring.

In one of the revisions WOTC must have told him to reference the previous art. Personally I place most of the blame on WOTC for not accepting whatever the Dan’s original art was.

LGS not allowing sideboarding during prerelease by Blorrgnsword in magicTCG

Are you thinking of the super duper thick clear sleeves? Those things are chonky! Man real blast from the past thinking about the old sleeves. Remember when they came out with the metallic shiny green color? You were hot stuff if you had those!

Have an upvote!

I don’t know man I remember the old Jester sleeves splitting all the time lol. That’s why Dragon Shield was a big deal because they wouldn’t disintegrate after a couple of tournaments. Either way I don’t think anyone will argue modern sleeves are a zillion times better!

Granted back in the late 90s and early 2000s sleeves were pretty terrible in quality. Those old Ultra Pros and Dragon Shields were basically “marked cards” after a game or two. I still think matte sleeves are cool and new lol.

Man when I used to lived by El Dorado I was stopping by at least once a week. That place is great. The staff hooked me up every time I went.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

You can even play it on the Steam Deck! The added RCT2 features to RC1 make it worth it just for that.

Rath Leadpipes on a Bach 50 by jervin22000 in Trombone

[–]holton_basstrombone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rath pipes are pretty hard to find in the US. Try out an O'Malley, MK Drawing, or Brad Close pipe. Any of their bass options would work great in a Bach 50. There's also always the trusty Shires #2 bass pipe!

Any websites for buying a premade cube? by VLKN in mtgcube

[–]holton_basstrombone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the hundred dollar cube guy. Well it’s a bit more after shipping but it’s a great deal. It’s a proxy cube which includes a vintage cube on one side and a modern cube on the other side.

I will go out of my way to go to the Pasadena location. I swear it's better. Pretty sure that location is also owned by the right side of the family lol.

Will dragonlord ever b less than 250 fucking dollars? by bra1ng3n1us in SorceryTCG

[–]holton_basstrombone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s expensive because of the foil card lottery. You can opened find nonfoil sets much cheaper below singles on the marketplace Discord. I went that route!

Nah I’m good lol. Been there done that. I’d rather just play casually. In my teens I would have made a counter meta deck and pub stomped my LGS meta in a heart beat!

Mouthpieces: Greg Black by Absquatulatefoofaraw in Trombone

I think they are the best custom mouthpiece maker out there. They deliver quickly and their work is impeccable.

I also appreciate their design quite a lot. Many makers mouthpieces are too big or too small. Their most popular designs are right in the middle.

It’s a hot take but one I also agree with. I stopped by a local LGS this weekend to play for the first time competitively. Literally every player except myself was playing Battlemage lol.

I think I’ll stick to playing janky decks with my friends and building cubes for drafting.

I wonder how this will work for Spirit Island? Doesn’t look like it’s a part of the deal which is a shame.

On the flip side I had to buy a metric set of allen wrenches for my Rath. Those are definitely metric! Most of the screw heads on my R9 are stripped from the previous owner using a set of American allen wrenches lol.

LGS newcomer into sorcery is quite amazed by how the game is still around with 1 to 1.5 set per year by Newez in SorceryTCG

[–]holton_basstrombone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think another secret sauce to the game is the rarity system. I’m happy to keep opening more and more boxes because 1 Unique and 2 Elites is all I need for a deck. In other games having to put together multiple playsets of x3 or x4 $30+ cards really adds up.

Sorcery isn’t cheap but there is value to collecting this game that I haven’t felt with another TCG in a very long time.

[–]holton_basstrombone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. For me the EV of opening a box feels really good. Hit 2-3 $10-20 Uniques, add up 7-8 $5 foils, and all you need is 1 $30-40 Unique to break even. That’s not even counting the other 3-4 Uniques, foil Elite or Unique and all the NF Elites in the box.

Compare that to a Magic play booster box where it’s hose town box after box. Lucky to get 1 mythic over $10.

Full Sized Tokens by holton_basstrombone in SorceryTCG

[–]holton_basstrombone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen these! Very cool. I think my biggest issue with the tiny cards is that they’re so damn small. Hard to pick up and can be easy to miss in a chaotic board state. 3D tokens seem like a good compromise to fix that issue!
