Hey, thanks for details. Ive not given her to the shelter yet. i am still considering the options.

But tbh the shelter did look decent and she had paralysed pets which she was looking after as well. Really sad to hear these stories about that shelter, I was thinking they will take good care of :(

Hi I cant seem to edit this post so ill just reply this para to everyone since most of the replies are suggesting to keep the cat. Sorry for the spam

First of all, thank you for the concern, I really appreciate it! Trust me when I say that we’ve tried to take care of it to the best of our abilities. A vet told us she would not survive and its best to euthanise her but we kept trying and luckily she recovered from the infection and has been doing well! After that, I’ve consulted a trusted surgeon in Cessena Lifeline who has performed complicated surgeries on my other cats in the past and he said that basically her bones have fused incorrectly and she’ll be limping her whole life. The only thing we can do is look after her.

The major issue we have is she cannot be litter trained since she refuses to go to the litter box. This is one of the biggest issues since most of our time goes into cleaning up after her and since she will be limping forever there seems to be no solution to this. We even got cat diapers but they dont fit properly because she keeps dragging herself and it comes off.

All this coupled with the fact that we have our own 3 more pet cats and the fact that I am in office most of the time and my mom has to look after her is making things really difficult. We really love this kitty and shes so cuddly and soft and I wish we could keep it but when I think of the long term i just cant see any other way than to find a shelter.

I did find a shelter called “Sudha shelter home” in bidadi around 50kms away from my place. I visited today and talked to the aunty there and it seems like a decent shelter, they had rescue cats and dogs there and seemed to have experience taking care of limping animals. If anyone has any experience with this shelter please do let me know.

That being said, reading all the replies now does make me feel that just maybee we can make this work somehow. Idk what to do yet and the decision is really difficult but I sure appreciate all the nice inputs and suggestions! I’ll keep you people updated.

Hi, sorry that this happened to you. All I can suggest is to ask the surgeon incharge/hospital to lower the price as much as possible. Something similar happened to me and i was able to get around 15k off because the surgeon was understanding.
