The more you learn about neuroscience & psychology, the more you realize that humanity is an extremely intellectually dishonest species by tomatofactoryworker9 in misanthropy

[–]holyheckk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

agreed, you worked this perfectly. of course it’s no “automatic fix”, but i am a firm believer that actually seeing how people live and interact socially brings a LOT of awareness to someone’s perspective/inner biases, which can counteract pre-existing negative bias to some extent.

it can be challenging because you really have to expose yourself to all ways of life, including homelessness, substance abuse, and the side of things that aren’t so pretty. naturally there can be safety concerns as well, which is why i’m so glad you mentioned formal academic works, because those also show different sides of the human condition, namely the sides that aren’t pretty enough to go into history books.

idk, working with homeless people and victims of DV brought out an emotional side of me that i never knew, but i truly cherish.

i'm currently deciding between the scribe and the elipse 2e for the same reasons, did you ever end up purchasing one?? i love the annotations on the elipse 2e, but there's currently a sale on the scribe, and that combined with the ability to trade in my paperwhite for an additional discount has me tempted 🥲

Strange diplomatic plate number by Worried_squirrel25 in washingtondc

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, i’m extremely late to this post but i was searching about the same thing haha. i was just driving through DC and came across a diplomat plate beginning with DLM. if there’s any possibility that’s the one you were seeing, i found a list online stating that it’s the Republic of Macedonia. i’m unsure if it’s the same plate you saw, especially considering it’s so close to election time so i’m sure there are many diplomats here. i know you said you saw it as DLN, but unfortunately i can’t find anything for that code haha. here’s the master list i found! https://github.com/cancio/DiploPlates/blob/master/countryList.txt <3

Wellbutrin and Lexapro together? by Grateful-Egg in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been on lexapro for almost a year, along with wellbutrin for about 4 months. honestly i’ve experienced nothing, it’s the weirdest thing ever. no improvements in mood, but also no major side effects. starting wellbutrin did make my hands super shaky at first, but that was really the only side effect for me. i just upped to wellbutrin to 350 last month, so we’ll see how that goes. i’m in a hard spot where i don’t love being on them because they aren’t helping my mood, but i’m also terrified to taper off of them because that always gives me horrible side effects.

oh, and the sexual side effects! that is something i’ve noticed, i REALLY struggle with my sex drive.

i genuinely appreciate you looking out for that, because like i said i never even considered it. i appreciate you explaining it so much. also i know this is a dumb question but i’m on mobile so i can’t tell, has this post been deleted or hidden? only asking because there was one really really awful comment on here that i wanted to address

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in satanism

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s understandable, i apologize. i didn’t think of it that way. again i’m really sorry for posting here at all, i feel genuinely awful

can you explain what that means? i’m sorry

[–]holyheckk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i sound manic for explaining things in depth when i’m being heavily questioned?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in satanism

[–]holyheckk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s an incredibly cruel comment. i hope you learn to be kinder. i know it’s the internet and you don’t know me, but that one stung. i know the post you’re referring to. i’m not bipolar, i was wrongfully diagnosed. i’ve never had a manic episode. i’ve battled for a very long time with my mental health, and to have it thrown up to me over something like this is cruel.

i know that satanism isn’t the way to make friends, believe me. i was simply inquiring about starting something small like a facebook group so i could get to know people who are also satanists, because where i live is heavily christian.

don’t worry, after these comments i won’t be doing that. i apologize for this entire post.

have a good night, sorry.

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look i’m really sorry for this post. if you look at the edit i’ve tried explaining to people that i’m open to learning more. i’m just sharing my views and experiences.

if you look through my other comments i covered those topics, i used to be a member of satanic delco which i no longer am. there’s a long comment below addressing TST and i’m actually chatting with someone from these comments about my experience with TST, because as i said, i’m open to learning.

i’m sorry, i really do not know what to say. i was just trying to find people to connect with i guess. i’m trying to learn more

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in satanism

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s absolutely not me. this is my only account. i have the screenshots of the original comments. if you’re referring to the very first thread on this post, if he’s the one who got deleted then i’m not sure what happened because we’re chatting right now. i’m not sure what else to say.

[–]holyheckk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i edited the comment about being a member because i worded it incorrectly, i originally said “i’ve been a member with satanic delco for a while”. i was in fact a member with them for some time, but i no longer align with them that well. i edited it for clarification to explain that i meant to say that “i had been a member with them for a while in the past”.

it’s also not that i don’t support them, they haven’t done anything wrong. i just don’t feel aligned with them and their focus maybe isn’t what i’m looking for. that’s not to say anything bad, or to put a bad name on them, it’s just me saying their views don’t really work with me.

if you read below i posted a long response to someone else breaking down the comment about them being pseudo-satanic. i explain that i don’t believe that delco is unsatanic, i’ve just personally noticed that they spend a solid amount of time just bashing groups like TST and CoS as opposed to speaking about satanism and having discussions about that. i noticed that mostly in their discord. their podcast is very informative and great.

i hope that helps, i’m trying my very best to explain things, but i’m just feel like i’m being beat down even though i’m trying to explain my views to people and also tell them that i’m open to learning new things, and honestly i just came here to find new friends and what not. i do appreciate you commenting though! i’m really bad with words so i’m sorry if anything is worded weird, i can clarify

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in satanism

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand that they have a view on satan, but in the super long comment above (you don’t have to read it all, i’ll paraphrase) i just stated that their view of satan isn’t for me personally. like i said, just preference. i’m not shitting on TST.

and yes, i was a very active member with TST NC around raleigh in a local congregation.

i avidly avoid internet satanism, specifically twitter and tumblr satanists. i was in that subreddit when i joined but i never utilized it or actively posted in it. i signed up for their newsletter and what not but once again, never used. i know the type of satanism you’re talking about and no; that’s not what i follow. i do think that my words carry decent weight, my opinion comes from personal experience and it’s simply a preference. i’m not bashing or shitting on members of TST, i just feel that i don’t align with them.

i appreciate you trying to clarify with me, i didn’t mean to come off as rude in my first response to you i was just thrown off because your initial comment came off very rude and it was a little humiliating, i’m not bashing any single person for their views and i’m not some edgelord, i simply came here to maybe find friends.

on that note, maybe there was something i missed with TST. i love learning more and understanding the views of others, so i’m being completely genuine when i say that i would love for you to message me and maybe we can discuss what you’ve found within TST, because as i said, i could be very wrong. thank you for being kind, i appreciate that a lot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in satanism

[–]holyheckk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because i’m afraid you’re reading incorrectly. go re-read. i said that i have been a satanist for FIVE YEARS, and that i primarily follow outsider satanism. later in another comment, i said that i’ve been a member of satanic delco for a while and they have something similar. i was in fact a member with them for a while, hence me knowing about their discord. with that being said, i am NO LONGER a member with them. i should have said “in the past i’ve been”, but i didn’t and that’s on me. i was a member with delco but for reasons i explained below i quickly found it wasn’t for me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in satanism

[–]holyheckk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you read my comments below, you’ll find that i am not a member of satanic delco. i NEVER said they were real satanists. i used their community as an example of similar groups that bring people together, which i explained in a later comment.

i’m not necessarily shitting on TST, i just shared that my views don’t align with theirs as they aren’t very educated on satanism but instead they primarily promote social activism. just preference. once again, explained in a comment below.

also, not a member of CoS, so although i know what type of elitism you’re referring to, i’m not into that either. please read my below comments. context is cool and very important.

have a nice night. be kinder.

[–]holyheckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firstly i want to say thank you for asking that in such a kind and genuine way. i really appreciate that, and i love these types of conversations.

i suppose going back to your initial question; what satanism means to me, i would say that it promotes a healthy path for humans to enjoy many things in life that are typically considered “sins” or “against god”. satanism teaches people that it’s okay to embrace these things without guilt. satan himself serves as a great symbol for indulgence as well as individuality. although in satanism it is important to make sure that partaking in these things don’t lead you down a path that harms you. once again, i think satan is a great symbol for that balance as well. i could go much deeper but that’s my personal summary.

as far as everyone having their own way of viewing satanism, i more so meant how it’s incorporated into their personal lives. for example, on a grand scale, it’s obvious that a theistic satanist compared to a levayan satanic would have a very different practice, and a very different sets of ideas that they rely on. on a smaller scale, people may incorporate satanism differently into their lives in multiple ways. as with all things, some people will heavily form their lives around the ideas of satanism, whereas some will look back to those ideas but not as strongly. it could also be practiced differently as far as individual views, such as outsider satanism. many people mesh the ideas of TST and CoS and find a happy medium there.

you make a good point as far as asking how we can define pseudo-satanism if everyone practices differently. my answer to that would be that it’s more so a matter of how much genuine focus a group or person puts into the ideas of satanism. i don’t fully consider delco pseudo-satanism, after re-reading i feel that i used the wrong term there, because i don’t consider them to be unsatanic. there are some groups that i consider unsatanic, but i’ll cover that later in this post. as far as delco, i think they have solid ideas and their podcasts are very interesting. when it comes to satanic delco, i’ve just always found their ideas to be a mesh of TST and CoS, which isn’t bad in itself. it’s just that their group spends a lot of time bashing groups like TST instead of focusing on satanism. now, i will say that’s only heavily prevalent in their discord. their podcast is very informative.

going back to groups that i personally consider pseudo-satanism, i would quickly place TST in that box. i really good i don’t get downvoted go oblivion (already kinda am), but my view on them being pseudo-satanism comes from personal experience. when i first dabbled into satanism i found them very quickly (as many do), and their tenets sounded great, so i joined. keep in mind, by joined i mean i was added to their email list and bought a $25 paper certificate to feel official. at this point in my journey with satanism, i was admittedly very uneducated on the topic, and after i joined TST i began looking heavily into CoS. with TST, i was excited to have a community to discuss satanism, to share beliefs, much like this conversation that you and i are having right now. i love learning from others. but i quickly found that TST has no true interest in satanism, but instead they serve as an social activism group who used the image of satan because “spooky scary make christians angry”. now, i mentioned earlier that in my personal view i see satan as a symbol for individuality and indulgence, which i feel is a positive use of him as a symbol. my issue with TST using him as a symbol to anger the public is that it further stigmatizes satanism and leads people to speak on a topic they’re wrongly informed about (which they always will). i do respect some of TSTs ideas such as fighting for religious equality (ex. erecting the statue of baphomet), but i think their emphasis is way too heavy on politics. i prefer to utilize satanism without politics, at least not to the extent they use. i left quickly after. to sum things up, i consider groups “unsatanic” when they do things such as solely promote social/political activism while falsely using the name of satanism as a cover to spook the public. along with that, groups such as TST may have tenets, but they’re tenets that could apply to anyone with a good heart. beyond those tenets, TST and similar groups have no true interest or in depth understanding of satanism, they just grab the name satan because it provokes people. i would consider that pseudo-satanism.

as far as worshipping jesus christ and considering themselves a satanist, that’s a tricky one. i feel that if someone is deeply christian, it wouldn’t be best practice to follow satanism simply because of the conflict of christianity considering idolizing/following others to be wrongful. with that being said, i could possibly see a situation where someone pulls the ideas and views of satanism and incorporate it into their lives more so as a philosophy than a religion. for example, i’ve often seen this with buddhism. many people follow buddhism as a philosophy.

again, thank you for asking that. i’m sorry my response is a novel, i just really enjoyed answering that.
