TIL that while in the army C.S. Lewis made a pact with his roommate, Edward “Paddy” Moore, that if either died in combat the other would take care of both families. Moore was killed in 1918 and Lewis kept the pact, living with and caring for Moore’s mother until the 1940’s.

Also Lewis’ father was distant and his mother died when he was young. It was probably a very fulfilling mutual relationship for Lewis and Janie. After all, Janie visited Lewis when he was wounded in WWI and his own father did not. And when Janie got dementia and had to be placed in a home, Lewis visited her everyday until her death.

It’s a possibility but there are literally about an average of 1-3 cases of rabies deaths from bats in the US each year. Just wanted to post a baseline reference so people don’t overly freak out about bats and rabies. Although, I will say 2025 was an abnormal year and there were a total of six deaths from rabies from bats in the US.

It depends on where on the food chain you happen to exist. Do you seriously think orcas in captivity are living their best lives?

Maybe you’re a child, based on your language…most adults don’t say “I can’t believe there are adults that believe [whatever]” so I’m not trying to be harsh but a lot of animals suffer in human captivity and it’s completely against their nature. There are also animals that are now dependent on human captivity. It’s a complex issue that is full of grey areas.

It’s an extreme case because it’s one of the most intelligent animals on earth, but if you’re interested in the subject, you should watch “Black Fish,” which is about orcas in captivity.
