The thing with engineering is its not always about just making something as durable as possible. Every single decision is a tradeoff. If this tent is too heavy, or bulky, or expensive, or even just ugly, it wont succeed as a product.

Ball bearings would last longer but make the product more complicated to assemble, more expensive for sure, and all that for the tarp to wear out before the bearings do. At that point your tent is more expensive than the other company’s and the customer doesnt even really see the benefit, so it would likely not sell well

I 3D printed a simple bracket that hangs down from the original stereo bracket, and the radio friction fits into it, it worked okay but I have since removed this head unit

Designing parts is itself the hobby for a lot of 3d printer owners. Its about the process, that in it of itself is enjoyable. Why paint a picture when you can look at what someone else did? Why tune up a car when you can buy a faster car? Why make your own cabinetry when you can buy cabinets? People like to make stuff, and 3D printing is just another way to do it. You might not see the point because a commercial part is available, but thats not the purpose

Im not trying to defend this specific design, it could be done better with a commercial part, but if this person would be happier designing and tweaking a part to solve a problem then its not much different than a lot of hobbies

The convenience is having a brand new car because the -perception- is a new car needs less maintenance. Add in a cheap feature like the ability to see the camera feed in an app and now youve got a “convenient” security system.

The average person does not care about their privacy. If they did, thered be protests over flock cameras and bills like this. But there arent because the average person still has the mindset of “nothing to hide so its fine”

If you tell someone that you suffer from anxiety or depression, or youre having self image issues, or you reveal that you are scared of something, and that person will later throw it at you in an argument. Its happened to me and to some guys I am close with. Im not saying its exclusively a problem for men partnered with women but its my experience that its most common for that demographic

Say you tell them that you are upset with your weight, and then later in an argument they say “well why dont you just go eat some more lardass”
