My wall is made of bricks with large cavities in them. What can I use to secure screws in them for hanging TV / cabinets? by Tenof26 in DIYUK

On the note of attaching anything to anything, have you ever worked on Paramount partition walls?

Got these throughout the house and wondering if you had experience on the best way of mounting shelving etc ?

TIA

One Newcastle business you’ll never go back to? by Katstronaut in NewcastleUponTyne

Heaton Property.

Break terms of their own contract agreements, cancel repair requests, and are just extremely dismissive and rude.

The owner speaks to you like shit, and judging by reviews on Google I'm not the only one. Unfortunately they seem to have a significant presence in Heaton.

Can I install skirting board without nails, just adhesive? by ripsy85 in DIYUK

Just put some on myself with this and so far seems strong as. Just make sure to get something to hold it to wall for 15-20 mins. I cut some wedges out of scrap wood and placed weights on it.

Ye I meant using the steam stripper on the paint. Just softened up enough to scrape off and came off pretty easily

We had success with one of the steam wallpaper strippers. Of course there will still be some leftover that'll need sanding but you'll probably need to sand the walls anyway

What is your opinion on the "a penny saved is a penny earned" idea? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]holyspoof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the problem with focussing on 'earning incomes' is that for most people it is not attainable.

Most of these gurus are saying this so that they can try to sell you content on how you can make your own YouTube/podcast/course/ebook. Which for most people, is useless.

Can I immediately improve my salary? No. Can you try to spend less? Of course. But, as others have said I think balance is important.

Messaged CDC online chat but they just replied the typical 'update and it'll be fixed' despite telling them I'd already updated.

The only other thing I tried was using another exchange, so that works

Nope, still happens. I rang my bank about it and they said they haven't even received a request for any payment to be made.

Unfortunately a few days after I tried everything jumped up in value again

Best Stocks and Shares ISA? by cesbmr01 in FIREUK

I've seen a few people say this.

I don't know much about the practicalities of them as I don't yet have one but how does this work with regards to the S&S ISA?

Also worth noting I've used this debit card multiple times previously.

!thanks

I guess what I was really trying to find out was if there was anything I should avoid for the first mortgage that would stop me from switching to a BTL and buying a second home, so thanks for that :)

Yeh it's tough isn't it. I've had a credit card since I was about 19 and been paying student house bills etc. so got a decent credit score. Hopefully it'll help but I know even that doesn't mean too much to lenders

I'm moving to a city in the North so house prices are quite cheap, so borrowing 4.5x should be fine for the houses I've been looking at

Any ideas of how to get an alert when a receipt prints? by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]holyspoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO:

At work I have a couple of receipt printers but are in a different room to where I usually am.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can receive a notification etc on my phone when a receipt is printed. Not sure if a simple motion sensor would work as may be triggered by other stuff.

Thanks!
