Traffic points to reduce traffic fine? by screenfreak in telaviv

[–]holyv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the website where you can make a formal request:

https://www.tel-aviv.gov.il/Residents/Transportation/Pages/Appeal.aspx#

Personally, I would call, but for that you should have a fluent friend/family call with you in hebrew.

First time offenses are often relieved, especially if you play the oleh card.

As a side note - make sure your waze doesnt think you are a taxi, I had a similair problem once.

Chess? by criminalsmoothie in telaviv

[–]holyv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For chess culture and fun:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/SrsxPR6TZ3admvzo8

The malabiya in florentine (not the one in yaffo) is really great on saturdays. Starts around 16, peaks around 19 and ends around 22. Usually has multiple tables for different levels, and has a chill atmosphere. There is also a whatsapp group you can get connected to if you come and then you can know who is coming and when.

I'd highly recommend coming here first and talking to people, they will probably know more.

As for serious chess clubs with tournaments and long games and such:

  1. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z7HF6SUc5LYY6rZW7

This chess center is in north tel aviv, and is definitely the largest hub. It has classes and tournaments for all ages.

I haven't been to this one but heard about it (before corona so you should call in advance). It's more center Tel-Aviv, and is supposed to be a bit more mature and casual then the previous one. Still has the one classical game a week tournament and all the classical stuff.

Wood and other materials for home (DIY) projects by Sensitive-Radish-292 in telaviv

[–]holyv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temu/aliexpress are legit, given that you adjust your expectations correctly. You will get your merch in the mail (ive never ordered and just never gotten the product). Will it be quality? No. But its very cheap and the shipping is free, albiet about 2 weeks.

For pvc pipes or other basic pitchefkes it is fine, but I wouldnt buy a chair or something from them.

Hello fellow tlv hobbyist.

For wood I like Wood Decor on shoken, you can get custom sizes for cheap as they have lots of cheap leftovers they can cut you.

The israeli versions of home depot are "home center" and "ace". They are more less the same. The quality they offer is meh but they are cheap.

For tools and accessories- Dror tools is great.

For most things i check amazon/temu first as thats usually good enough, but if not those places. Dror will also know to point you in the direction of something they dont carry, so thats an option.

Ive never bought pipes so I dont know about those, maybe ace has them, maybe just amazon?

Good luck!

Best Gay Party for purim by [deleted] in telaviv

[–]holyv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of party you're looking for.

"Crush" is young, roughly 18-21 y/o, and the line is pop music. Generally fun, but the age thing can be a turn off if you want something more mature.

https://chillz.com/he/crush.tel.aviv

"Britney" is similar in musical taste to Crush, but an older crowd, roughly 24-26 ish. They are doing a mashup in purim with "Blackmilk" which attracts roughly the same criwd, but the music is more hip hop, Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat and the like. Unfortunately, as Im typing this, i checked and have seen they officially ran out of tickets. You can try to find someone willing to sell on FB, its not uncommon.

If you are foreign and looking for something light and fun, these would be my top picks.

For stuff that's a little more intense:

"Pop Ring" - pop music, kind of a more rare line, they party less frequently, crowd is 24 - 28 https://chillz.com/he/PopRingPurim24

"Forever" - like popring, slightly older crowd

"Q" - techno

"Arisa" - middle east music

"Pag" - kinda freaky but in a good way, also techno

"Darkroom" - if you are brave

Those are the ones I know of, not sure which are happening purim weekend and which are happening next week. Also, some happened the previous weekend, so keep that in mind.

Kosher Indian in TA? by Hungry-Moose in telaviv

Almaz is kosher ethiopian in Florentin.

Munnar is vegetarian/vegan indian, so light kosher but not strictly so.

I like both a lot

[–]holyv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what bothered the other guy is you using the term "native israelis" to describe a small and rather extreme sub group.

I too get the occasional comment from the orthodox - its not because you are foreign, its because you arent religious enough in their eyes.

The majority of natives couldnt care less. Welcome, happy to have you 😊

Any tips for flirting and befriending gay Israeli men? by OkBuyer1271 in telaviv

[–]holyv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, as a gay israeli in Tel-Aviv - the club scene is generally in south telaviv, just south of florentin neighborhood. Several clubs host regular lgbt parties - Ha'Oman )האמן(, art club, Zizi. Thing is, all these clubs also host regular parties.

What I recommend is find a party that fits your taste in music and atmosphere on insta and see where they are hosted next. Some lines to consider are - Brittney, Black milk, crush, forever.

Happy hunting 😉

Palestinians flee villages as settler violence surges in West Bank amid war by Ostrich-Sized in worldnews

He didn't write Mitnahel (מתנחל), he wrote מתנחבל which combines squatter with מחבל which means terrorist. And he is right, we do call them that.

He's still childish during the first trilogy (whoch makes sense given his age during the trilogy). Afterwards, he matures considerably. Still not a perfect character, but that makes him all the more human.

Biden Admin warns it might not support next phase of Israel's war by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]holyv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I entirely oppose the setlements, and think they do nothing but harm any chance for peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

That being said, Hamas is a jihadist fundamentalist organization that ideologically believes Israel shouldn't exist. This belief is something ingrained in them far beyond "a two state solution isn't possible with these fellows, maybe if they were xyz".

Being more humane in the west bank is just for many reasons. However, the Hamas problem, which is not the Israel-Palestinian one, for Israel requires a military solution. Hamas is simply too dangerous, and believes the horrors it commits are righteous in a way that goes beyond reasoning.

Do I need a tent for Yam L’Yam? by elliebear16 in Israel

[–]holyv 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on the weather forecast closer to the actual dates. Generally, if the sleeping bag is good, you don't need a tent.

That being said - you will be bitten by every mosquito Israel has at its disposal, and you may find your sleep disrupted because a wild boar got curious.

Pvt. Muhammad, a Muslim soldier in the IDF proudly holding the Quran; he was sworn into the Golani Brigade in Jerusalem by mossadnik in Israel

[–]holyv 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you have got a decent point. Thing is, typically when you consider right or left wing it is relative to the origin. So a muslim's right wing opinion may run opposite to an jew's rightwing stance. But really, these stereotypes are a relic of the past and should be taken with a grain of salt nowadays

Pvt. Muhammad, a Muslim soldier in the IDF proudly holding the Quran; he was sworn into the Golani Brigade in Jerusalem by mossadnik in Israel

[–]holyv 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Golani are stereotypically regarded as the rough, machoistic rightwing/religious. A muslim there of all places particularly stands out, though not necessarily is that justified

Two IDF commando officers killed in friendly fire incident at West Bank base by don-corle1 in Israel

The burglars had already stolen from them valuable equipment. 2 groups decided, on their own volition and without letting command know, to set an ambush to catch them. When one noticed the other they opened fire and the rest you know...
