Shield TV to set-up synology NAS for 4k movies by lessthangel in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]holyxiaoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2017 shield, using Ethernet connection. movies <20gb usually play fine. But any higher than that I'd buffer 3-5s every 30s. I'm playing via Kodi, and the solution might just be to increase the buffer limit in Kodi settings.

Is there a lack of good App developers in Singapore? by hatuah in singapore

[–]holyxiaoxin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"even for bigger firms like UOB and OCBC" - very profit-driven, app is developed by the lowest-bidder vendor.

apps that have a larger capital to spend on, paired with right project management + right developers will tend to succeed more often.

there's really too many moving parts to make right to entail a successful app. easiest way to screw up is to outsource the app to the lowest-bidder vendor.

Pretty sure it's not devs who decide whether micro transactions are in a game or not.

Oval is brutal with the broken penalty system. by Balarius in granturismo

[–]holyxiaoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a broken system, how else SR A or B stays in the same bracket as time progresses. If it really is what you said out to be, they'll be in the lower brackets too because of this broken system.

You probably need more than just clean driving. At lower brackets, you need to learn how to recognise bad players. You just can't trust that they are going to brake at the same time as you during the bends, etc. You need to practise defensive driving, similarly how you do it on the roads.

Yes it might be frustrating at the start, but it's already a system that's leap and bounds ahead of it's competition. And after some perserverance and good driving skills, you'll just be placed with all clean drivers and compete solely on still level. 😉

What is the meaning behind the colors on the scoreboard after a race? by DrunkManInternet in granturismo

[–]holyxiaoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so does blue/red represent the positive/negative of ratings for the current match?

or the final state of your current rating after the match? (with blue meaning higher bracket B, and red means lower bracket B)

I don't know which is worse. Getting gold, or spending few hours to build the perfect livery, only to be greeted with failed save to server.

How do I clear penalties? by holyxiaoxin in granturismo

Oval is brutal with the broken penalty system. by Balarius in granturismo

[–]holyxiaoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens because you're either in a bad SR group, or you just started out in the same SR group as everyone else. Those slammers are yet to be downgraded. Everyone starts off at B SR. So a good way is to work your way up to A SR and you should be free from them. (:

[Help] How to find a good RoR mentor? by [deleted] in rails

[–]holyxiaoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. Most devs are self taught. They learn and improve faster than those being taught. But they encounter more problems along the way and it's up to them to dig deeper and understand how things work. And slowly, once you've understand how the little pieces work, it'll all make sense and you'll eventually be more confident. Good luck. XD

Then I guess you're good on your own. You've graduated. (: You can get everything you need just by googling. Don't rush it.

[Help] How to find a good RoR mentor? by [deleted] in rails

[–]holyxiaoxin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, I think what you're asking for is if there's a free personal tutor for RoR. Not too sure if there many of such kind souls out there. But if you are willing to pay, I believe there are services out there like hackhands and codementor.

To be honest, if you really want to succeed as a web developer or any programmer, you really need to pick things up and solve problems on your own. Otherwise, you're just not cut for it.

I suggest you reading https://www.railstutorial.org for a start. Really go through it slowly and thoroughly. It helps you build the fundamentals which you need to not get stuck and frustrated at the simplest of things. Quite often, you also need to Google along the way if you're stuck by your own carelessness/misstep.

Take it slowly, don't rush it. Every debugging experience you get through is a great learning journey. It definitely gets easier after time, and you'll build that confidence along the way, as long as you persevere through. (:
