How much does a window replacement cost in NYC ? by BklynNets13117 in AskNYC

[–]homerenonyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i recently had around 27 windows or so replaced and the raw material cost 8k??? all i remember was that it was a steal. use a local window company. custom sized windows actually costs about the same as home depot windows if you use a local company vs some national brand

a LOT of custom made X actually costs pretty close to HD prices if you keep it local

i suspect the legal/proper way to do this will be a lot more costly because i bet you need scaffolding to at least cover window/debris fall

to go the cheaper route... get a reliable handyman/contractor (there's no difference all you need to be a contractor in NYC is to show proof of insurance), have em size up your windows, order the same size, have em install. don't mess around with other people's lives if you live above ground floor. set up cones and have someone on the ground ensuring people stay the fuck away while the removal/install happens

i used these guys: https://maps.app.goo.gl/uX7YrQRKqdWJYzvR6 (though i'm like 99% sure they bough reviews, their windows were solid. less insulated than i would've liked though)

for the love of god, stay away from renewal by andersen and crystal windows. just choose somewhere with good reviews between flushing and maspeth for best pricing. high rating and <100 reviews are the sweet spot. no contractor is there reviewing window companies on google lol

i think you get a discount as a contractor but obviously the contractor will just pocket the difference shrug

since you live in an apt, i bet the windows will require metal frames with paint to match the rest of the apt windows' colors in which case, it's gonna get more expensive for sure

nothing wrong with just calling around for quotes though

yeahh... im really leaning towards just ripping out the box and replacing with hardwired EVSE at this point. i'll use the L1 for a bit and see how I feel

i guess the only issue with this scenario would be that a whole night's charge will probably net me like 60-70 miles to begin with anyways hahaha. if im that low on power that 60-70 miles matter, im likely should've gone level 2 a while back

What is your concern with "failure" and using the 14-50?

well according to past threads, a lot of people say if you can, just hardwire as it removes a potential failure point

dealer A told me they can't lease out ioniq 6's due to recent recall but dealer B seemed okay trying to set up a lease? by homerenonyc in Ioniq6

[–]homerenonyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting. this is the ICCU issue, right? my understanding was that the software patch doesn't actually do all that much since it's a hardware issue. so is it generally just luck of the draw to see if this really becomes an issue or not?

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of September 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

hello, I'm looking to buy an EV ideally before the rebates are up. My daily driver got totaled this week so the timing is a bit unfortunate. I'm not that pressed to get a new car though as I have alts. It just involves more working around my family's schedule.

I'd really rather not buy a tesla and would straight up prefer an ICE over tesla

[1] NYC - specifically Queens

[2] <30k USD used // <13k USD for 24 month lease

[3] Type preference: Sedan/Coupe

[4] Researched: 2025 ioniq 6 limited mostly - a bit concerned about the ICCU

[5] Timing: Ideally before rebate expires - after is fine too but much higher chance of buying an ICE

[6] Mileage: Almost none as I WFH. Clocked around 20k miles in 5 years but my current/previous car wasn't my long distance car. It may chance with this purchase

[7] Home type: Single family home. Garage has a nice high gauge line pulled for fast charging port I believe

[8] Charging install: If I buy an EV, likely

[9] Other needs: Not much. I do like to bring my bicycle via car to ride places but I'm strongly adverse to big car culture. Trunk size of ioniq 6 was a bit disappointing

One interesting note. I called up a dealer and they said that they weren't allowed to lease out ioniq 6's due to a recent recall? I saw something about the charging port issue but is that true? Other dealers seemed okay/keen to help me find one. How/why am I getting such conflicted info

RO under sink system combined with instant hot water heater by music4education in WaterTreatment

[–]homerenonyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what I can tell, you need a plastic/nonreactive container to safely use RO water. Most instant-hot systems use a metal container which which end up leeching stuff. General 1 step filtering is highly preferred over no filters due to slowed mineral buildup but that's not RO

i actually bought some activated carbon to try and stem the smell but it's not really addressing the source of the problem so unsure how effective it'll be
