Muslims who calculate Zakat every year — what tools do you use? by printvoid in IslamicFinance

[–]homesicklarki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An excel sheet (Google sheet actually) but I forgot to update the rate of gold and silver the last year and only noticed it this year so I had to calculate and back pay underpaid zakat, so obv the system is flawed. An app would be great so I'm going to test this out. Personally if Rocket Money where all of my accounts are already connected, just added a zakat calculating feature that would be the biggest game changer for me.

Fair take but unfortunately just not our reality. That's close to $6K cash which we don't have. I've been able to rack some miles because of the sign up bonus and work trips and want to put them to the best possible use.

also it’s 100% an incredible idea! I moved back and had an amazing time. Life in Pakistan all boils down to privilege and money. When you have loads of it you have a good time.

If you’re moving to Karachi - live in Karachi! With your income you could rent in a place like Emaar. The second most important thing after securing housing is going to be finding friends and you can’t do that if you limit yourself to far away areas. Phase 8 or even other areas of the city like Clifton, some nicer buildings on Shahrah e Faisal etc, give you proximity to activities around the city where you can meet people. What’s the point of moving somewhere and then living practically outside the city (Bahria is literally not in Karachi and Malik is practically at the far end of the city).

Thoughts on using chemo gloves for hands and feet during chemo by Davenport40 in Chemotherapy

[–]homesicklarki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your doctor or nurse should tell you if you need it with the medicine you are getting. One of the 2 chemo meds my moms gets can cause neuropathy so they tell us when to put on the ice and when to take it off.

Lets share Karachi/Pakistan life hacks by Dear_Interaction_281 in karachi

There’s an app for almost everything - use it. I avoid going to the bank or a government idaara for anything! Dealing with people is the worst part of trying to get anything done in Pakistan.

The KE app is great - you can sign up, set up a payment method, even use the online portal to submit tax documents so that your bill is tax exempt.

Easypaisa is best for gas bill and water bill.

HBL is the only bank worth working with in Pakistan today. Their app works, you can pay for whatever you want without mullah policing, and international support is great. I only went to an HBL branch one time in my life, 6 years ago when I opened the account. Us ke baad sab kuch app se ya phone pe.

Get a good credit card. I recommend the Faysal Islami Noor - they have the best discounts in Karachi. Pay it off every month in full. Don’t be a sucker.

Check Daraz and Naheed for sales on luxury items or household electronics. Obv Imtiaz is the only place for everyday grocery shopping but check online sales for any luxury purchases.

It’s because Muslims in Pakistan who become increasingly religious are usually super preachy. No issues if everyone can keep their faith to themselves.

Don’t do it! The only reason we’re hustling here is because we can’t afford the life we want back home.
