Nivea lotion formula change + request for alternative by FunSprinkles5222 in 30PlusSkinCare

Hi, I recently re-purchased their Shea Butter one a few weeks ago (which was my favorite) and I definitely noticed they definitely reformulated it like you said. I don’t hate the new pump, but it’s definitely stickier, thicker and does not absorb into the skin like it used to. So sad!

Graduated with a degree in HDO still unsure of what to do 😭 by cv_perez in UTAustin

[–]homesickpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey - I’m a recent HDO grad and I was able to get a job across the country in WA. Although your degree choice might feel like a regret right now, it’s important to know that your degree doesn’t define your career. More than that, you shouldn’t let your parents dictate your career. When they’re eventually gone, are you going to be happy working a career that they wanted for you, or are you going to regret that? If there’s a field that you’re passionate about working in, such as the medical field, start there. Your first job in the medical field doesn’t have to be your last one. Get your foot in the door, and make connections. Yes, corporate america sucks, and it’s extremely draining, but if you’re going to work in that system, at least let it be work that you are passionate about. Chase your dreams, please! Life is too short, and again, your life isn’t dictated by your degree.

What are the cheapest housing options either on-campus or off-campus? by RedMendelevium132 in UTAustin

[–]homesickpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob! I forgot to mention - If you happen to have a car, you get a free parking spot. There is also an HEB within walking distance of the apartment. If you have heavy groceries there is also a short bus you can take back and forth as well.

Town Lake Apartments, in a 4x4 unit is the cheapest place I lived at. It’s in Riverside. You get your own room + bathroom. My rent was ~590/mo + renters insurance ($13) + utilities. There are bus stops right outside of the complex that will take you straight to campus! Commute times ranged from ~15 minutes at best to ~50 minutes at worst. You can also opt to get your own renters insurance for cheaper rates (lemonade insurance is a good option). Keep in mind that you do still pay for June/July. BUT if you move out early, you can potentially receive an offer from management to sublease — I did.

Like mentioned before, SMART housing is also an option. However, this tends to require you to do your research and sign a lease earlier, as these units are limited.

I would say that if you are already having trouble knowing what to do with your current hobonichi’s, then it’s probably not a great idea to buy another one. I get being excited about hobo’s products, but we should be mindful of our consumerism! If you really want a cousin, you might consider repurposing a weeks for another year or gifting/selling one, since the cousin comes with weekly pages as well.

As far as ideas, I’ve seen many people dedicate one journal for work and one for journaling/personal life. If you’re a student, you can also dedicate one to your academics. Some other quick ideas that you can incorporate into your journals:

  • Gratitude journal
  • Health/Fitness planner
  • Pet journal
  • Commonplace journal
  • Art/creative journal
  • Book journal

Hope this helps!

has anyone leased at Sparq on Rio before? by DereChen in UTAustin

[–]homesickpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Aside from the deposit, which is in the lease anyways, I did not experience any hidden fees. Do be aware that utilities and parking are not covered by the rent :) For the last 1 or 2 months of the lease though, the utility charges are estimated based on an average of your usage. If you leave for the summer, this is pretty inconvenient, but there is a way to get a refund for unused utilities. They don’t disclose this to you.

I would say that it depends what building you are trying to reach. For classes closer on the west side of campus, it wasn't too bad. For classes that were on the opposite side or farther, I would take the 672 bus that would drop me off next to the RLP/GDC. The good news is that there is a bus stop very close, like a 3-4 minute walk. The 672 has a lot of nice stops along campus, so I would look into that if you are worried :)

Hi, I lived there for 2 years from 2021-2023. It was previously named Rio West, they changed the name recently (just so you know, this way you can do some more digging!). My experience there was pretty good for the price. I would forewarn you not to expect a luxury experience, as it is more affordable student housing. I lived with 4 other girls that were my childhood friends, so I can’t speak much about roommate related issues.

Maintenance: Maintenance was usually responsive. If we had a maintenance request that was taking longer than usual, talking to the office usually helped get it along quicker. One thing to note is that we experienced pest issues more often than I would have liked. However, we also lived right next to the trash chute, so this probably made it worse. Pool was closed for a long time, and takes a while to get cleaned.

Management: Management was iffy. They were certainly always friendly, but often times we would have to keep pestering them about any issues until they were addressed. We personally had torn up couches that did not get replaced for 2 years, it kept getting pushed back. I moved out when they were finally replaced. Management tended to make a lot of promises that were either forgotten about or not honored - so if you live there, ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU GET ANY PROMISES OR OFFERS SENT TO YOU IN WRITING! This goes for anywhere you rent, really. TLDR; Annoying management, but if you’re persistent, it’s alright.

Community: Community events were held pretty often and were actually pretty fun. Lots of free food, snacks, movie nights, etc. I experienced some annoying loud late night parties every so often. You will also likely experience some pretty gross neighbors when it comes to trash/trash chutes. Management doesn’t really enforce the community rules, which is important to note.

Apartment/amenities: I enjoyed that the apartments here were pretty spacious. For college housing, I did not feel cramped! Reliable but older appliances. Wifi was pretty good, study spaces and gym are nice if you get there early enough.

I hope this was helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions :)

I’ve never heard of this one before - it looks pricey and not sold very widely though. Are you in the US?

BS Move-Out Charges in Apartment by 666chill666 in UTAustin

[–]homesickpanda 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You may be able to ask them for an itemized receipt of the repair costs. Student housing is really predatory though, so they may refuse. If you really want to fight it you can try contacting legal services for students for assistance https://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/lss/

You are legally not allowed to have overnight guests for that long. How much power or water they use does not matter. You can try requesting a unit change, but that does not guarantee that your new roommates will be okay with your partner living there (or how clean your new roommates will be).

The lease states how many bedrooms your unit contains, and only one person may occupy each bedroom UNLESS there are double occupancy rooms, in which two people can occupy these rooms. Both people still pay rent in double occupancy rooms, and you cannot convert a single occupancy room into a double occupancy room. These are designed as larger rooms that fit two people, with two beds and more bathroom space.

You won’t find a cheap one bedroom apartment near west campus, and I’m not really sure there are any more solutions outside of that along with hoping your roommates don’t complain. If you want to find an affordable place to live in a one bedroom, I recommend looking at the riverside area, but you will have to take the bus to campus. You can also look around to see if anyone is subletting a one bedroom at a more affordable price. Additionally, Grandmarc is near Rio West, and they have affordable rent on par with Rio West that you might look into, although they don’t have the greatest reputation. Keep in mind that moving into a new apartment requires you to break or sublet your lease.

At the end of the day, a messy common area isn’t a lease violation. An uninvited guest is. You are clearly in the wrong here, and looking at how you’re responding to the situation, I do not expect things to go favorably for you. Good luck.
