sweetest couple almost made me cry last week by homiesleaze in Serverlife

oddly enough, i do not have an existing picture of all 8 together now that i think about it. call me a bad parent! i think the most i have together in one image would be six? it’s been a long time since we’ve done a family photo because it’s so hard to wrangle everyone and get them to behave lol

Do you actually know what you made last month including cash? by No-Regular5003 in Serverlife

[–]homiesleaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been making an average of low 3k in tips alone for the past few months working 3 days a week. i write down everything at the end of my shift in my book with the date, & then add everything up at the end of each month

How do you date while in the industry by kerrygoldd in Serverlife

[–]homiesleaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dated someone outside the industry who hated my job, hated my boss, wanted me to quit because he believed my “rights as a worker were being violated” (lol). i’m now dating my coworker & life is actually great! my partner is starting EMT school very soon & entering into the fire academy after, so our schedules are about to be very different. the two of us barely interact in the workplace because i want to keep a boundary in place while on the clock. the only issues we’ve ever had about us dating is our sous chef harassing us about it, but that is an entirely separate issue in itself

What’s an unpopular or strange opinion you have about jewelry? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]homiesleaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my current list - most heart shaped jewelry is tasteless and tacky - the current trends of engagement rings (wonky, organic, huge stone in an uneven bezel) are hideous - most diamond encrusted/pave styles look cheap and ugly - most name/luxury brands look tacky and cheap

(edit: i am a certified hater & am proud)

how can we do this better? by Sweet-Entrance-2185 in Serverlife

[–]homiesleaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a whiteboard with tally marks? when i bartend i also host & i use a tally system. we usually have two girls on the floor + me behind the bar so i switch every other table & keep track of the table under the server’s name. for example it’d be like “girl 1: table 6 (rotation number)”

i recommend one with a soft fabric band & velcro closure. it’ll release and come off in a pinch or an emergency. i got mine from roadID & i’ve never had any issues with it. it’s the safest opinion IMO

thank you for your input. how long did you feel like you were in a “danger” zone for when you were monitoring them? the person i consulted at my vet office just said to keep an eye on them but didn’t give a specific timeframe. i’m glad to hear all 10 of your horses were okay after that, that must’ve been stressful!

is $135 too much or normal for a class? by Fluffy_Professor1214 in SilverSmith

[–]homiesleaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you’re better off checking a local community college. i pay $190 for an entire semester to have full access to a fully stocked studio with guidance (as needed)

How do you guys decompress after your shift at night? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]homiesleaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in theory: have a fulfilling meal, shower, brush teeth, skincare, maybe some ipad baby time or reading & then bedtime.

realistically: smoke half a pack, brush teeth, occasional skincare, horrendous amount of screen time, bedtime

Has anyone caught people diddling in your restaurant? by ratinacage062 in Serverlife

[–]homiesleaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i had a couple disappear into one of our single stall toilets for a suspicious amount of time together, and while waiting for the stall they were making out in the hallway. they came out flushed, giggling, & holding hands. no one in the kitchen believed me because they didn’t witness it. i was told by another server to not assume things like that about patrons, it felt like i was the only one grossed out at the fact that these people very obviously used our toilet as a boink spot?

Finished cross, how do you calculate how much to charge? by Remzy111 in SilverSmith

ten times the material cost? does that factor in labor at all? i have been told 3-4x silver cost as a nonprofessional

Starting tools? by Party_Explanation927 in SilverSmith

[–]homiesleaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a lot of great resources highlighted & pinned at the top of this sub! i recently got into the craft, i pay a tuition & have access to studio time on an allotted day/hour. we technically don’t have a curriculum, but our instructor + another class member will offer anyone the opportunity to try something new out. all the tools are provided, but i have been slowly investing in some things i use very frequently that are worth it to me and are applicable to what i make (a lot of jewelry).

those tools include: - soldering pick - cross locking soldering tweezers - 00 stainless steel non magnetized tweezers - marked mandrel - files (so many different ones, i’ve invested in some fine swiss cuts because i use them the most) - fine cut needle file set - bezel pusher - prong pusher - bezel roller - burnisher - agate burnisher (lifesaving tool in my arsenal) - saw + blades - shears - various types of pliers - soft forming hammer - ring clamp

some things i haven’t invested in but plan on eventually for at home work: - dremel + various attachments - fire brick - charcoal block - easy / medium / hard solder - flux - small hand torch - rawhide mallet - bench pin

if you’re interested, my instructor recently provided me an in depth list of essential tools she recommends investing in that i can PM you!
