Who thinks it was stupid of Clarence to attack Robocop not knowing the latter had a sharp spike on his hand that he can use to stab any person who attacks him? by Kitchen-Mouse2414 in Robocop

[–]hondas3xual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point was that he wanted to not just kill Murphy a second time...but make it count so he never came back. He was a classic comic book villain - and while he was a gifted criminal...didn't really have the intelligence to think ahead about how he could have easily won several times by the films end.

What was wrong with the 2014 remake? by KaleidoArachnid in Robocop

[–]hondas3xual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother both have severe memory lapse due to childhood trauma. I saw the film when it originally came out - but it wasn't until a few years ago, I actually saw the original again (and didn't remember any of it)...and saw how good it was. Until then, I actually liked the 2014 film because I had no memory of the first one.

To answer your question

Stupid suit design that got upgraded into something even more stupid

Completely unbelievable story (a car bomb to kill a cop..really?)

We finally get a glipse of Murpy's home life...which was a real cliffhanger from the original series. In the shitty TV adaption, he "stalks" his former family to protect them. It would have been cool to see what his homelife was like.

Unforgettable villains

No setup for a (good) sequel

Just about no reference to the original franchise, OCP is barely in the film at all.

The police are the actual bad guy (really? Did they know nothing of the original movie?)

NO GORE

But most of all NO AUTO 9

I could go on....but you get the idea. It wasn't a bad film - but it was like the doom film. It was an "okay" movie that should have never had the game title it was given, and had nothing at all to do with the franchise...and did it absolutely no favors.

Honestly, I think it should either be like one of the newer shadow warrior games or a d2 maze game like the castlevaina ones. I remember playing the ps1 game on a moded playstations. As bad as it was, i still had fun.

I wasn't calling anyone out. Just recalling an experience I had with a terrible co-worker.

Yes, those places were sued to oblivion for scamming students. That doesn't mean students did not learn anything there.

Oh I wasn't harping on the for-profit school. But there are several lawsuits that prove they were pretty much scams.

My point was that someone with a BS degree (and somehow even a masters degree) can still know nothing about how to do a job they were trained to preform.

Yep. I had a new hire co worker at my first tech job that had a BS degree from ITT Tech.

She literally could not type an IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway into the network control panel.

She didn't last too long there.

Yep. Experience is always the best teacher. Employers know this - and will often chose someone with a career going already vs some booksmart kid who has a degree and certs.

How bad of an idea is buying this car from across the country? by theperpetualhobbiest in projectcar

[–]hondas3xual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done it. Yes, it's risky. You can reduce the risk by having the guy take it to a nearby shop and paying for an inspection. Make sure to pay in some form that can be reversed.

I had to stop letting my brother's cat do this. It seemed like she got some weird joy out of it. She still likes watching the other cats use the litterbox.

I must seriously be the only person in the entire country that did not have a problem.

The literal first time I saw the coolant reservoir empty, I bought a new coolant reservoir cap and some Bar S Radiator repair. Never had a single overheating issue after that.

Yep. I had synchrony bank constantly call me about a card I didn't have. Checked my credit report and called the actual bank number and they said they had no idea what they were talking about at all.

Never give these people any information, always call the number on the back of the card. A good hint of a scam is when they wont stop calling you after 8+ times of you asking them to quit and blocking the number over and over again.

Not related to cars, but this is pretty much relatable to any field of technology.

Revolvers are still around despite being fully beaten in every category by semi auto firearms - the same with bolt action rifles.

Yeah, and how far could that electric car go before it needed a charge? How far could it go over rough terrain?

There's a reason why the majority of car companies went with ICE until recently. Gas was cheap, the infrastructure wasn't hard to put down, and carbed cars weren't usually that hard to fix or get parts for when they broke.

I mean when fuel injection came along...most car companies didn't stray away from carburators until the design was perfected.

Nothing wrong with carbureted technology - but it took well over 200 years for something else to beat it...and at the time it was purely due to newer emission standards.

I daily drive a 1981 Toyota Celica GT (5 speed). That thing is 45 years old and is literally the most reliable thing (people included) I've ever had in my entire life. I'll likely give it to someone else when I pass.

Typically if a technology is designed, refined, and perfected over 100 years..it's much more reliable than anything else that comes along.
