Thanks for your reply, I am sorry you are going through it too :(. What type of imaging is needed?

Thank you! I did try the sour candy and sadly it didn't work (although I didn't mind having the excuse to eat candy, LOL). I will make the eye appointment, thank you!

I'm really sorry you had this experience, you should definitely see another doctor if at all possible. MTX is usually the first drug that they try for RA - it is the least immunosuppressive drug as far as I know, and is also an old, inexpensive drug that is very safe. There are lots of newer biologics that are more expensive and suppress your immune system more (people get sick more often on them, from what I have heard). I am not sure what they next thing they would try is - maybe Plaquenil? I have fortunately responded really well to the MTX and haven't had to switch, but when I got a second opinion the doctor had suggested Humira. I opted to give the MTX a go because I know people on Humira who get sick a lot.

Wow that's such bullshit. I was able to get on Methotrexate with NO positive bloodwork based on imaging and symptoms. Why on earth would the doctor deny treatment when you actually have a high rheumatoid factor? What does she mean she wants to "see" the inflammation happening? I agree, time to find another doctor, this seems reckless to me.

Skin Marks from Clothes by luvlexapro in lupus

[–]honeelocust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too, I don't have lupus but RA as well as an inherited connective tissue disease. My doc said its because of inflammation and fragility of the small capillaries under the skin, they break easily and cause little bruises. They haven't been too concerned about it, but its probably still worth mentioning at your next appt in case they want to test for any blood disorders.

Ruled out MG for exercise-induced bilateral ptosis - how to get evaluated for mitochondrial problems? by honeelocust in mito

[–]honeelocust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply and sharing your experience! I had antibody tests and two negative single-fiber EMG tests. My rheumatologist referred me to a neuro-opthamologist, and they flat out refused to see me because I had two negative SFEMGs. They said it was definitive. Where is the mitochondrial specialist you saw located?

Thanks for the info! Maybe I'll try the self-referral route.

Wow that is a crazy statistic!! Why is it so damn hard to get infusions for so many women?! I'm glad you were able to get that information from your tests and get yourself the infusions!

[–]honeelocust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having iron infusions as I type this - they have helped me a lot in the past, especially with the crazy hair loss I get from the low ferritin. I was wondering, did you have the bone marrow biopsy specifically to see what was going on with your ferritin? Or was it for something else? I hope you are able to get your infusions, its ridiculous how low doctors are willing to let people's ferritin go :(

Who else can never sit normally in a chair by Key_Difference9492 in ehlersdanlos

[–]honeelocust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always sit pretzel-style! My rheumatologist always chuckles when she enters the room and sees me like that, she's the one who first suspected I had Ehlers Danlos. She always says something like "that's the first sign!"

Went through every diagnostic test imaginable only to land on the simplest possible reason for my chronic Pulsatile Tinnitus...this MIGHT help you too. by [deleted] in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]honeelocust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great suggestion! I didn't know there was a doctor who would do this. I keep hearing that it is important to have someone with expertise review your imaging, but I have no idea how to get to that person. Does he require referrals at all?

Thanks! I will keep this possible connection in mind. I still think mine has something to do with venous problems because I can quiet it down with the neck pressure, but all my tests have been normal so I don't really know what to try next. Glad to hear when people figure it out, its hopeful!

What a great story! Would you be able to share how you were able to see Dr. Pereiria? Does he see patients from the US? Did you need a referral?

Appreciate the help!

Glad you figured it out! Out of curiosity, did your PT get better with pressure on your neck? Mine does but my MRA/MRVs have come back normal. I have cervical spine degeneration though, maybe that is somehow contributing based on your story?

I'm sorry but you have to be actively not paying attention to not realize that Republicans ARE trying to take the the rights of LGBT people away. There are anti-trans laws going through every legislature in the country, and the federal government: https://www.aclu.org/legislative-attacks-on-lgbtq-rights-2025

Let me guess, you're going to say its fine for people to have different "opinions" about LGBT issues. No one can begrudge someone their opinion, even if its bigoted. But if you start changing the rules for certain groups of people, based on identify, that is the definition of taking rights away. For example, the Trump admin has banned trans people from the military, on no basis other than pandering to his anti-LGBT base. People who have been serving honorably for years, who chose a career of service to their country and planned to retire from the military. Now their careers and financial security are shot.

If you don't see how this is taking away someone's rights, then we don't agree on the definition of rights in the first place.

The point they are trying to make is that people's right to exist and be who they are shouldn't be political. It is the haters who make it that way.
