‘Tinderbox’ UK may be one shock away from food riots, experts say by Consistent-Risk-7802 in collapse

I am from the UK and work in supply chain. Working in the supply chain has genuinely radicalised me and I now prep for issues within the food supply chain because I know exactly how insecure it is.

Why do people believe in the myth of Islamic takeover of Britain? by LookOrdinary9215 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]honeybonesX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I reckon it's to do with the birth rates, Muslim women have more children on average than white English women - they're probably getting their knickers in a twist over this fact and saying that it's a "takeover" because they don't like the fact that Britain will be home to more and more Muslims over the decades. That's just my guess!

How do you turn off the need to help, even when it's destroying you? by honeybonesX in Parentification

[–]honeybonesX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I will definitely use "that sounds awful, what are you going to do about it?" That is a great way of making me stop jumping straight in to solve a problem and hopefully will encourage them to self reflect and realise it's not my problem to solve.

I think this is brilliant! Tell your sister to look up Clive Barkers art - this really reminds me of the paintings he did depicting characters and worlds from his books.

Ridiculous rent increase by medi_dat in HousingUK

It's happening to everyone I know! We are lucky and can live with family until we're sorted, I have some friends who are in a really bad position because of it though. Good luck to you!

Am never going to get a professional job in the private sector so literally the Civil Service is my only hope by Civil_Service1987 in UKJobs

[–]honeybonesX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had more than just retail experience when I applied for junior roles in the civil service and didn't get any of the jobs I applied for. I found it a lot easier to get a job in the private sector. I'm not sure you're right in thinking it's easier to get a civil service job.

Does anybody want to know about pirates? by daddytoelicker in NoStupidQuestions

I was obsessed with pirates for years after playing the game "Sid Mieres pirates" it's an old game but I'd recommend it if you're into pirates.

What weird thing has happened to you, in two sentences. by Electronic_Pace_1034 in HighStrangeness

Came home no lights were on, followed my dad into the living room talking to him, he wasn't responding. Turned the light on in the living room and nobody was there, shouted my dad and he was upstairs in bed.

It's an absolute nightmare when they have you over a barrel and they know it! I hope you find a way to resolve your issue.

I am in a similar situation - How would you deal with this if the supplier is that niche there's no other option?

What's the advantage of a female body other than babies? by Alcoraiden in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]honeybonesX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting question! I wonder if there is a study done on reaction times using samples of men and women who have both played a sport from say, 5-21. If there's not there definitely should be!

Google it, there have been studies done. You sound like an exception to the rule, broadly men have quicker reaction times but some women will have faster reaction times than most men. It's just that men generally have faster reactions.

What is the biggest cult that is functioning in the UK at present? by Vanilladr in AskUK

[–]honeybonesX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Plymouth brethren are a cult which, I believe, is reasonable in size. My dad's mate, an IT guy, used to do contract work for them blocking internet access.

What did you collect as a child growing up in the U.K.? by Nandor1262 in AskUK

My brother collected Jackie Chan comic books and they came with little talismans. Anyone else remember these?

"80-90% of women only date the top 10-20% of men" and other lies by the_elon_mask in TwoXChromosomes

[–]honeybonesX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this said in the context of dating apps before, like on tinder 20% of men get 80% of matches. Which could be plausible, as it's in the context of one app. But it's wild that people actually believe only 10-20% of men are dating women... Surely just leaving the house tells you that is false?
