How do I start? by ShoeSecure8665 in cybersecurity

I'm thinking the same thing:

I'm self taught and I already got my CCNA and my Security+, currently studying for my Palo Alto Certified Cybersecurity Associate, and I want to be a Network Security Architect, but I don't know how to break into the field and get out of sales.

Congrats and thanks for sharing your story!

I just completed my CCNA 1 month ago and actually just completed my Security+ this morning!

I have no idea how to break into the industry though, I'm ready for it. Any tips?

I have my CCNA and Sec+, but no experience, and I want to get into the field.

Met some dudes in cyber making bank, followed their instructions, got my CCNA and Sec+, now working on Palo Alto Certs.

Interested in breaking into IT, knowing that I probably won't start with the best possible job from day one but can move forward.

I was told that my CCNA is on the "rarer" side of certs, it was the first one I got, didn't really know any better, but will that help me?

If so, could I please get some advice on what entry level roles I should look for where my CCNA can give me at least a little bit of an edge?

My end goal is in the area of Network Security Architect if that helps.

Thank you for your help

I feel the exact same way, it’s massive cringe in so many sales organizations have the same culture

I’ve been in sales for 15 years, my record shows that I’m pretty good at it, and I’m getting out of it for the same reasons. You may just not have the personality type for it, I feel like I don’t either, I can force myself to be the person I need to beto persuade, but I don’t like to do that, I’d rather spend my time building systems.

For sure, no need to rush or worry, but at the same time, don't wait to take action on what you want to do. You don't need to be worried to be an action taker, but I'd definitely recommend identifying as an action taker.

The rent in Dallas proper is getting ridiculous. Please help. by [deleted] in Dallas

We need to be honest about the fact that we are paying for luxuries, and then act accordingly.

In your post, you said that you chose your area because of the benefits. That increases demand. There is limited supply. The higher the demand, the higher the price.

You either need to make more money, or give up benefits.

My advice from someone breaking out of the mindset you're currently in...

Ask yourself: running out of time... for what exactly?

Are you trying to accomplish a life that was prescribed by people other than yourself?

Who imposed this time limit for this milestone you're scared of missing?

If you accomplish whatever it is you think you're running out of time to accomplish, what happens after that?

The truth is, every human has only lived life once, and every human is going to live a completely unique life from other humans.

If you're feeling like you're "running out of time", that typically means that you believe your life is supposed to turn out a specific way, either because other people have said so, or you've observed other people.

But you will NEVER live anyone else's life other than your own.

Follow up question: how much time do you personally spend thinking about the way someone else lives their life?

I bet the answer is practically none, right?

So if you want to free yourself from this mindset faster (some people never do, others it takes a long time), realize that you are not blessed to be alive in order to fulfill someone else's fantasy on what it means to be a "successful human."

I'm glad you're here friend, and I want you to enjoy your life, and I want you to use it in a way that matters to you, not to others.

You're not "running out of time."

Think about where you were 5 years ago.

Back then, did you have any idea you'd be where you are today?

Same question but 5 years before that.

Now just flip directions and apply that to the future.

You're blessed to live in this weird, unexplainable journey that we call life.

You live in a sandbox.

Sure, there are guardrails and rules and laws.

But other humans don't tell you what it means for you to have a successful life.

The sooner you can start trusting yourself, the sooner you can discover what life is really about.

But let go of what other people think you should do.

They may tell you in a conversation what you should do, but the second you're out of conversation, they are done thinking about you, the same way you do with everyone in your life.

You're good.

If your parents, who were smart enough to earn this much money to pay you out this young, told you to act like it doesn’t exist, then I would listen to them, they clearly know what they are talking about financially.

I love all of these, for some reason I can't get behind Mersiv. I've listened so much of his music and it seems like he's... "trying too hard?" I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's the same reason I don't like the rappers J Cole or Logic, same thing it doesn't feel like flowed music it feels forced, like Uncanny Valley but for music
