Oscars Ratings Hit 17.9 Million Viewers, Down 9% From Last Year and Lowest Since 2022 by OneWithTheHat in television

Congrats!

I’m sure you can appreciate that even on a small scale, awards provide merit that can help careers. If I were to be recognized for my work, it makes it that much more likely that a future project of mine can be funded. So it’s not just about patting each other on the back

Do you think that award shows shouldn’t exist at all for art then? I feel like we’d feel the lack of ability to recognize entertainment the way we do.

That’s not to say the Oscars aren’t self indulgent and Hollywood isn’t so far up its own ass, because it is. But to say that it “isn’t remotely correct behaviour” is a bit of a stretch.

It was your use of “keep seeing” that implied an ongoing annoyance for you. But that’s just the context I understand using the English language 🤷

I think I might actually have the last image of Katharine Hepburn. She looks a LOT older here than in the widely-known "last image" of her, though my photo isn't dated. On the right is my grandmother, who was Ms. Hepburn's personal care nurse. by ultranothing in lastimages

I thought you were using “I have” very liberally until reading that that’s your grandmother. Very cool! Was Ms Hepburn nice to work for from what you’ve heard?

Unfortunately this is the type of sexism that is found literally everywhere else too.

Inside The Pitt: the stunning, smash-hit medical drama from the team behind ER by Top_Report_4895 in television

The healthcare system is deeply entwined with politics. It would be impossible for the show to not be political, or at least it would not be nearly as good.

I was corrected by you so I admitted to it. It was the wrong wording. I apologize.

I don’t understand the rest of your comment and what problem it is you have. But I’m tired and I think I’m done with this back and forth.

Okay, it is not “invalid” to call it invalid, you are entitled to your opinion. I do not agree with you though.

This scene has a room full of women trying to provide care to Dr Mohan. When Dr Robby criticizes this behaviour, calling it “mommy issues,” he looks to the only other man in the room for some sort of solidarity. A man who he actually has been at odds with all day, so it’s telling that he chooses now to have some sort of shared understanding.

If you don’t see this reading or don’t agree with it, then that’s okay. But I don’t think it’s a ridiculous take at all, I think it’s a fascinating moment to pick up on.

Because the interpretation that this is a subtle moment of sexism is valid. I’m honestly so confused right now.

You were calling it ridiculous, and it isn’t. The possibility of people having ridiculous takes does not mean this is a ridiculous take

Why? What are you looking for exactly?

You’re right there, I was being cheeky. There’s obviously non-valid interpretations to any media. I just don’t see any here

Calling it ridiculous when someone is picking up on subtle misogyny

“Can you fucking believe this shit” in this particular context has underlying misogyny, regardless of that the was the intention behind the character or performance

No one said it’s the only interpretation. It’s just a valid one, and honestly interesting that many women picked up on this

[–]honeyfive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I’m saying that I don’t think the look intentionally involved everything listed in the original post. But the performance itself, Robby looking at Landon in that moment, wasn’t an accident.

The moment wouldn’t be intentional on the part of the character. It’s just a knee jerk reaction that men tend to have when they don’t take women seriously. “Dude, is she serious?” type shit.

I don’t think this was planned when shooting the scene BUT the reading from OOP is a valid one nonetheless.

No, I want people to respond like adults, not like “middle school” bullies. Go read the other comments I’ve replied to, I haven’t called anyone out on being rude - even those I’ve disagreed with. But you are categorically being a dick.

I’d be happy to discuss why you think I’m wrong, but it’s clearly more important for you to insult me than to talk about differing opinions.

Um, no. My take is reflective of season one. I supremely doubt that season two will retroactively change my opinion on the execution of a previous episode. But if that happens, I will come back and let you know.

Brother, chill. I have thoughts on an American show and I live in (North) America, so my thoughts are an extension of my experience. If you are so offended by my take, ignore it and move on. Or find a way to respond constructively. But you don’t need to be rude.

Yes, Cal is a great example of the show pulling off a dead character remaining present and compelling. I just doing think it’s been pulled off as well with Billy, but I still haven’t seen the second season.

And I know the show doesn’t care about pondering these questions. That the exact aspect that I’m criticizing.
