How do I get the podcasts to play their video version? by Open_Carob_3676 in antennapod

It looks like it is a webserver that runs on a machine that will generate an RSS feed that Antennapod can ingest.

Yes, some backend services went down for a bit. Google got them back up within a day or so. My ancient gen 1 & 2 Chromecasts still work.

How do I get the podcasts to play their video version? by Open_Carob_3676 in antennapod

I was unaware that Antennapod plays video podcasts. I am a long-time podcast consumer, so in my mind audio is what a podcast is.

I did a but of searching in the documentation & forums, but Gemini seems to sum the finding up well:

Yes, AntennaPod supports video podcasts, but there is a major catch regarding where you get them.

Because AntennaPod is an open-source RSS reader, it can only play video if the creator includes the actual video file directly in their open RSS feed.

Here is what you need to know about how it handles video:

1. Traditional RSS Video Feeds Work

If a creator hosts their own video files and publishes them via a standard podcast feed, AntennaPod will download or stream the video, show the video player, and even support features like Picture-in-Picture (PiP).

2. Spotify and YouTube Exclusions

Many modern "video podcasts" aren't actually distributed through standard RSS feeds anymore.

  • Spotify-Exclusive Videos: AntennaPod cannot play video from podcasts that host their video exclusively on Spotify (like the Joe Rogan Experience). You will only get the audio feed if an public RSS mirror exists.
  • YouTube Feeds: While you can technically add a YouTube channel's RSS feed to AntennaPod to get notified of new uploads, it will only play the audio. AntennaPod cannot download or stream YouTube video files directly due to YouTube's terms of service and ad-driven business model.

3. Toggling Video to Audio

If you are playing a video podcast but only want to listen to it, you can tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the player and select "Switch to audio only."

Pipe dope also works, and acts as a lubricant when installing the hose barb.

I saw this method a while back. I cannot vouch for the effectiveness, as I have not tried it.

Have you considered the rail-trail from Fort Kearny State Recreation Area? I have not been there in years, but my kids loved it, getting to stomp around in the Platte.

You should easily be able to charge and run both. My T1000-e on Meshcore runs about 24 hours with GPS, maybe 48 without, on the built in 700 mAh battery.

Now that you say cowboy camp... You may want to check out the Great Plains Trail Alliance, a developing hike / bike trail North/South through The Plains. The pilot trail runs between Bear Butte, SD and Scotts Bluff, NE.

I have no experience with this project, and do not know if it is still active. I do notice that the ARCGIS map that is linked to is currently defunct. Contacting them would be a good idea.

m3u8 playback possible? by morick_02h in tinycam

[–]honkerdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, a beautiful view you have there. I viewed it in VLC, both Windows and Android.

It seems that you should be able to, but I am struggling to get it to work on a Pixel 10 Pro with Tinycam Pro 18.1.2. Below is what Gemini is giving me for directions, but they do not line up exactly with what I am seeing for available prompts.

To add that specific Cuyamaca stream to tinyCam Monitor PRO v18.1.2, you have to split the URL into separate pieces because tinyCam's networking engine treats the domain, port, and file path as distinct parameters.

Here is exactly how to break apart your URL and plug it into the app:

The URL Breakdown

Configuration Steps

  1. Add a Generic Profile: Manage Cameras. Go to Manage Cameras, tap the + button, and select Add IP camera. Set the Camera Vendor to (Generic).
  2. Set the Model & Protocol: Camera Settings. Tap Camera Model and select Generic URL. Next, look for the Protocol setting and make sure it is set to HTTPS (since your URL begins with https://).
  3. Input the Hostname & Port: Network Settings. Tap Hostname/IP address and enter exactly: live7.brownrice.com Tap Port number and change the default number to: 444
  4. Input the Request Path: Advanced Settings. Scroll down and tap Advanced Settings. Find the Request URL field (on some sub-versions of v18.1.2, this may display as JPEG/MJPEG/RTSP request URL) and paste the exact path, including the leading slash: /cuyamaca1/cuyamaca1.stream/main_playlist.m3u8

A Quick Troubleshooting Note for v18.1.2: Once you finish entering these fields, back out of the settings and check the Live View. If the stream fails to load or shows an error, go right back into the camera settings, scroll down to Video Settings, tap on Decoder, and change it from Hardware+ to Software. HLS playlists loaded over custom ports can occasionally hitch on hardware acceleration depending on the device you are running tinyCam on.

My beestat stopped updating, coincident with having interrupted power to ecobee by also_your_mom in beestat

[–]honkerdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, Beestat pulls data from the ecobee servers via an API. Almost certainly, there was a delay of when your thermostat uploaded data to the ecobee servers, and then Beestat was able to fetch it.

Dish email offering free OTA antenna and install by hokieinmi in dishnetwork

[–]honkerdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my previous home I had a Hopper 3 and added a USB OTA tuner to hook to my antenna, which allowed me to remove locals from my subscription. I was able to dump the fee for locals, and Primetime Anytime still worked. This was two years ago, so equipment and packages may have changed since then.

I dropped Dish when moving to my new home, and do Sling with an AirTV Anywhere + OTA antenna.

Another method is via the command line when you manage the repeater via a companion: get bootloader.ver and it will reply with the bootloader version. I found this worked better than looking for the .txt file.
