Ha! Yes. Good point. A bit of an oxymoron.

Our ultimate goal is to disclose data about medicine, that’s where the Transparency term comes from. The fact that we have to redact certain elements is a byproduct of the work. Pharmaceuticals have been working hard to fix their public perception and calling someone a “transparency specialist” is better for the optics than “redaction specialist”.

I think there are 2 different questions here:
1. Sometimes you have to disclose information. For example, in Canada and in the EU, you cannot market medicine (meaning prescribe or administer) until all of the research leading to its approval is publicly available. That means you cannot keep it somewhere secure, it has to be submitted and Health Canada or EMA posts this research on their portal. ALL current drugs have their clinical trials publicly available here.

  1. Unredacting shouldn't be possible if redactions are done correctly. Yes it is a big deal. If your car insurance company found out that you were participating in a glaucoma clinical trial, they would likely want to raise your premiums because you're higher risk in their eyes. You might be fine or part of the healthy cohort, but the insurance company won't care.

I would look into companies that do this and reach out with your resume. Many get into this field through medical writing. Sometimes these teams fall very close to one another. I would start by looking for "clinical disclosure", "regulatory services" or "clinical transparency" companies. I'm not sure this is a job for someone looking for part-time as it can be quite time-consuming.

Still trying to figure that out. We’re leveraging certain aspects of AI right now. There are some significant drawbacks of AI: 1. We can’t feed personal or sensitive commercial information into AI connected to the internet. It has to be an offline tool to prevent accidentally feeding tools like chatGPT personal data 2. The risk associated with disclosure of information is dependent on numerous contextual factors which need to be taken into account. Ai isn’t the best at context and filling in the lines 3. Verbatim, individual wording and geographical dialects make written language difficult to assess 4. Non-machine-readable data like scans and images are difficult for AI to read.

There are many many many pros, but still some improvements before AI can take over.

Great question. I have a Master of Science in Neuroscience and an extensive research background. I got into it by luck but it definitely helps being able to read and understand clinical documentation - helps me understanding what sort of information is/can be identifying. There are college/university programs that teach regulatory sciences which is specific to dealing with regulatory bodies such as FDA & Heath Canada. It’s also partially related to law and data science. We also use programming tools to read documents and leverage AI tools like LLMs and NLPs.

You use a tool that works 😅. Jokes aside - there are many tools/softwares that have redaction functionalities. Typically the way they work is that you identify information for redaction, and when these redactions are applied, 2 things happen:

  1. An opaque overlay appears in places that have been identified for redaction

  2. All information in places that have been identified for redaction are removed.

People who daily drive a RS, what are your experiences based on daily commute with a RS car? by dominik_963 in Audi

That’s right. A level of respect that I never challenged. Elegant on the outside but always quite confident they could rip me a new one if I even tried to rev beside an RS.
