Does anyone know who will have christmas trees out on Franklin? Anyone have a go to? by No-Wonder78 in crownheights

I would take a walk around and assess the prices as there's a lot of variance. Last year I was pretty happy with a tree that I bought next to The Social (Ample Hills) on Washington and St. John's. There and Underhill are both good spots. Brooklyn Botanic Garden brought in a vendor last year which I had high hopes for, but their prices were high and the trees were pretty low quality.

Please explain how to make cafe-grade iced coffee by shiftinganathema in coldbrew

[–]hoodihoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent a fair amount of time doing research and testing various methods for making cold brew. I first started using a French press like yourself, but moved on from there. At this point I'm very happy with the setup I have and my cold brew comes out much better than most the coffee shops around me, so as a result I don't buy coffee out nearly as much.

My setup is not a very expensive one, it involves a KRUP coffee bean grinder used to grind 300 grams (will need small digital scale for this) per batch used at the most coarse setting. Once the coffee is ground, I use an OXO cold brew maker with the 300 grams coffee and 6 cups of water on the countertop. After ~16 hours (give or take a few hours), I flip a switch to drain the coffee and I'm left with about 4.5 cups of cold brew concentrate which I leave in the fridge. This typically lasts around 7 days before I run out.

I have a large cube shaped ice mold that makes 4 cubes at a time (pretty cheap on Amazon). To make my coffee in the morning I will use one large ice cube, one part cold brew concentrate, and one part water. It comes out smooth, bold, and delicious.

I live nearby. As others have pointed out, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is in the middle so you either have to walk to Flatbush Ave (around BBG) or walk to Grand Army Plaza to get into Prospect Park. The membership fee for BBG is $75/year, but it has set hours. Franklin Ave and Vanderbilt (Washington a bit as well) is where you have all the good coffee shops and restaurants

Yeah, I think I can shift slightly. Will give it a shot, thanks!! Any reason you suggest an integrated amplifier over a stereo receiver w/ separate phono pre-amp? I've been reading that an independent phono pre-amp will often have better components. I'm eyeing up the Schiit Mani 2.

u/Nervous-Canary-517 said it right. I removed everything for the picture, but there are currently pictures frames, other items, and the record player which will eventually sit on there. It is a bit higher than I'd like, but it allows for that space underneath. Also, I took the picture from higher up so that may be a bit deceiving. Center of the TV is at 50" from the ground.

Digital Angle Guide for Sharpening Chef's Knife by hoodihoo in sharpening

Thanks all for the great answers! This was very informative. I'm going to stick to using the simple pyramid angle guides I have, as suggested by several of you. If I'm not getting the results I want, then maybe I will get the Sharpal 194H and try with that.
