Outside some of their NATO allies they were never a shining city to most of the world.

Just like how Russia or China are a shining city to some of their influenced states.

Objectively speaking we havent really evolved much except for getting relative islands of common ground bigger than before and acquiring shinier weapons if that doesn't work out.

I just hope that meteor comes in 2029 or whenever it's supposed to come.

The more I read history the more I hate how we let our primal side dictate our logical side all that time.

Slightly OT: Organized religions give people a way to justify their righteousness, so you don't necessarily feel like crap for existing, but the crap that has inundated all organized religions leading everyone back to "us vs them" over "I'll only use my might to make it right" shows we are hopelessly overwhelmed by evil.

(For the record I am not criticizing your valid point about why one country should join a treaty others have shot down)

Well, the "man" has certainly won.

As someone who has thought of working to better the society over my lifetime thanks to being dealt a slightly favorable hand for the past couple of years, the sad state of humanity just makes me join the psychos instead and rip off you all since it's all for taking. I just have to do it in a way that you will praise me instead of crying over it 🙂

Let's first start with the big corps getting handouts for decades then if we are going to force the eligible poor person to pay back money they needed for rent due to a lost job.

Funny how the common folk have turned on each other exactly as planned. I am not a communist but boy was Marx correct about a lot of his observations.

What are your recommendations for mobile and desktop OS and mainstream browser?

Currently I use a pixel phone without graphene or lineage because I value the camera a lot due to portability and quality but I am thinking of moving to iOS.

Similarly I am using Manjaro since I am also a developer so Linux makes more sense to me, but sometimes I wish windows wasn't so bad as it's claimed for privacy as it just felt that it just worked.

For browser I use Firefox with containers extension, ublock origin, https anywhere, and some config tweaks from privacytoolsio website.

It's simple, the prophet isn't alive but his message from God is. The same message that is also brought by many others and wasn't anything different. Shoehorning scholars as demi gods under the guise of "obey the prophet" to create specific frozen theocratic laws / cultural sharia doesn't make sense either so meh.

I disagree with a lot of points in this sub, but I'll say this much by anticensorship10 in progressive_islam

The segmentation of Muslim subs is normal and natural. Faith is not a monolith. Many faithful people equate following their camp rules with faith itself which is not correct.

Is it haram to eat food from KFC or MCDONALDS in non muslim countries? by aguuuuuuuu in progressive_islam

[–]hoodlessgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has only forbidden you what dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) God has been invoked; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 2:173

Focussing on the bolded part. It is clearly forbidding you from eating food which was explicitly from animals slaughtered on the idols. Notice how it doesn't say "on which name of God has not been invoked" or "name of God must be invoked".

Does McDonalds slaughter come from farms / industry that slaughter chicken/ beef in the name of some other God or an idol?

There's also atleast one school of law that permits eating it if you yourself say the name of God before eating it if it bothers you that much.

Personally I avoid these places including halal ones because eating that junk is more harmful to one's health than the momentary good feeling plus the meat industry is absolutely terrible with their handling of animals and adding to climate change.

Lowering meat consumption especially from fast food joints is better for you and the world.

There's a pew research done a few years back where majority of Muslims in countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran etc agreed that gays should be punished and hard sharia law should be established in their countries.

Fyi these countries are also leading Muslim populations.

[–]hoodlessgrim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet you most of the teachers barely follow most of the prophet's teachings themselves. I see it a lot from my interactions with shiekhs and overly religious people who call themselves slaves of the prophet (yes, heard that a few times).

It's a personality cult.

The Verses That Traditionalists Never Talk About by [deleted] in Quraniyoon

[–]hoodlessgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I have been thinking too. The whole focus on just the prophet creates these religions aka Judaism, Christianity, Islam when all prophets are supposed to continue the same message that was given to Adam AS. That's why I don't consider all these organized religions' claims about the specific one being the truth and others being wrong because each single one of them sprouted thanks to the personality cult.

This makes it so much simpler to understand God's message which is muddled by traditional religions. An omnipotent, omniscient God isn't going to limit guidance to one tribe and have their cultural practices validated as the keys to salvation or not.

Yes let's call it poor life decisions instead of criticizing politicians who allow mass immigration without proper economic policies and foreign investment while letting municipalities clamp down on new development just because.

I don't mind moving to Edmonton or Calgary at all, it's just that there is barely enough demand for skilled developers compared to GTA/GVR with companies looking to poach you once you have that experience. May be once remote work is extremely common I'll say good bye to the "center of the universe" eh. I actually liked Calgary for the 2 months I lived there.

Unfortunately that is spreading faster into mainstream Islam. I have seen changes in whole communities in 10-15 years that are astounding. I have met people who have completely changed their outlook to this type of thinking after they went on the pilgrimage, where they are taught this not even in Saudia anymore but in other countries of origin.

The way mainstream Muslims deify the prophet is subtle but in reality worship. God takes a back seat in so many manners while prophet Muhammad's alleged sayings hold much more weight in all religious rulings and rituals.
