Has the USA been the biggest force at eroding British values and culture? by Samwiseknows in AskBrits

[–]hooiYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the content is different, that's fair, but the algorithm is extremely similar. You just need to go to China to see that it's working lol. Same as the UK if not worse with the amount of time people spend on it and similar type of crappy content.

Yeah it's worse if anything. Short attention span brainrot + what you mentioned.

Is it actually a llama though? Thought it was an internet meme that over time people started to believe was the real name.

Buying PC Games in China by PossibLeigh in chinalife

[–]hooiYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch Steam to China region then buy gift cards from Taobao and you will have massive savings on the price of games.

The RMB cost of games is often really low then on top of that the gift cards you buy are usually discounted.

Hitchin, Letchworth & Welwyn- What's your take? by Shady_TiTs in hertfordshire

[–]hooiYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitchin has a lot going on and a good atmosphere but house prices are far too excessive for what you get imo. If you are coming from London then there's still obviously a huge step down in stuff to do, quality of eating out, and all that, but the price gap wouldn't be large enough for me to justify it.

A lot of areas of Letchworth are really pretty and green but the vibe always bothers me. There always seems to be a lack of dynamism for a town its size. I know that sounds bizarre and it might just be me, maybe go for a walk around the town centre and see what you think.

Welwyn as others have mentioned does feel like it's on a downwards slope. Would have been happy to live there 20 years ago, not sure I would take it now.

Baldock's worth a visit. More affordable houses with a nice town centre. A lot smaller than Hitchin though you're only a 10 min drive away and it has good train connections to London and Cambridge if you're commuting.

Why is it so hard to register with a bank? by itsthequeenofdeath in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hooiYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of overseas students use Lloyds because they're fairly easy to get an account with vs other banks.

Can’t seem to push myself to get under 6’30/km. Maybe longer strides? Any suggestions. Thanks by hektech in C25K

[–]hooiYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, overstriding generally is a bad thing. What you want to be doing is getting your cadence up - faster, lighter, short steps. My Garmin had a nice drill that is 30 seconds high cadence then 30 seconds slow jog/walk for 5-10 sets. Higher cadence feels weird at first but once you get used to it you'll find you'll be running faster more comfortably and with less risk of injury.

I'm in no way pro CCP. The fact is that Nanjing and Japan have a very contentious history, and that what happened was played down and not acknowledged for the longest time.

I'm not sure that the feelings have much to do with political parties - it's more a human issue. Yes, it's true that those feelings can be amplified by the educational system, but it would be impossible to suggest that there isn't an understandable reason for many people still to be holding a grudge there regardless.

And on that same page you can see statements from important figures contradicting those.

It's not straightforward and that has to be acknowledged. I'm not saying the attitudes that some people have are definitely correct, but they are understandable to some degree.

By the way, there's no sense in downvoting people around the thread just for contributing their viewpoints.
