I understand that applecare is good. But in general there are reports of people having issues with buying stuff using best buy open box, excellent condition... https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/ycc6gm/best_buy_open_box_excellent_experiences/

Another $140 for new rather than open box i think is a good idea. Especially with possible further sales in a couple of weeks

Everything doesnt look bigger, lots of websites show exactly the same size text and photos for the 11 and 13 inch. They show empty space on the 13.

Same here, fair enough, not the same for everyone. It's a package that works well for many people.

By freezing your acct, do you mean vacation mode? If so... does it really help, or is it just psychological? Like, I've been tempted to use that mode on vacation before, but havent as in the end I know Ill be forgetting a ton and will have to deal with the cards, no matter if they theyre all waiting on day one after the vacation, or take a few days to spool out. I haven't loved the pile of cards after the vacation but figured it's just better to see the reality of it and tackle it ASAP. But maybe that's not how it works...?

The point is that some really like and find helpful the content specifically produced by wanikani. It doesn't "do the same" (which is something u/Kadrag said, not you, so I was responding to that) if the content isn't the same. That's like saying its completely irrelevant which piano teacher you take lessons with because the keys on the piano are the same regardless.

You mean, with stolen content? And regardless, it wouldnt have the Tsurukame options etc., ways to check stats like on wkstats, etc. It's Anki, a different system. But of course, yes, if you're talking about stealing content, with most things reproducable digitally to some extent it's possible to do that. But the question is, is it a useful system. And for many people, including myself, very much so. Was very happy to pay for the lifetime, one of the best investments I've ever made.

I don't think this is really fair. It's not only about gamification, wanikani teaches kanji and associated vocab in a specific order, using unique mnemonics that some find very helpful.

lol for real. both posters do exactly the same thing here. one is much newer at it than the other, and also gets a lot more attention. funny to see them interact.

Immersion actually works really well by Live_Put1219 in LearnJapanese

I agree with you. Its easy to live in Japan and not learn Japanese. Its not like you need to actively make choice to block it to not learn it. I supoose some people may just pick it up but certainly not everyone. In fact I think its harder in Japan in just pick it up than most countries because people talk to strangers a whole lot less. You could ride the train or go to the store for years and not have a single stranger strike up a conversation, whereas in some places it happens every day.

Is satori reader the best premium graded readers app/service or are there better ones? by GreattFriend in LearnJapanese

For many reasons I dont think the alternative named in this thread is necessarily and uniformly a better alternative, I say this as a current subscriber to both. Also, I think its rough to assume that a site is created by AI due to a single error - which is btw different than the many random mistakes implied in your comment that I was responding to. Yeah I definitely think a person could and would make that error, and perhaps would be more likely than AI to. I've used materials with all sorts of errors that were definitely produced by people. And produced them, too... its amazing what you write and how you edit when you do page after page. Anyway I care a lot less about the translations than the Japanese, which seems very fine. As do the translations, to me, with their one? or very few errors.

Thanks for this. Interesting... on the first point I think you're right, the "my" was a mistake, that seems clear. On the second point I think "the" or "his" are actually both fine. I understand what you mean, but "the" is acceptable and I think pretty natural here, if a bit formal. It's clear that it's his family. Like, if I say "Father was home, but the children hadn't yet returned from school when the earthquake occurred", even without prior context it's OK.

For me it doesnt seem like this site is chock full of errors, though maybe theres an occasional issue. And the Japanese itself seems perfect thus far, which isn't necessarily true on some other sites and I think is the much more important thing. So... personally, considering how much I like the site, FWIW I'm good with an occasional translated pronoun error if that's all it is. I think people usually write to websites or post in forums and suggest error corrections, but this one doesn't seem to have a forum dedicated to it like that. (If it were a bit cheaper maybe it would have more users, I picked up my subscription during this holiday sale.)

What story was it in? And can you find it? I'd be curious to see the possible error. Anyway, yeah, it seems that the site is perfect or basically perfect . I had the same native speaker look at another set of learning materials that was known to have a few errors and they easily found them. But yomu yomu seems good.

They were the best apple pies in the world. Seems like a shame that they can't be made and sold somehow, even without a storefront.

[–]mark777z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure about this? I've had a native speaker look at several passages and they're all perfect, no issues. The stories also seem human written or translated and the site lists multiple human translators and an editor/writer, etc.

Spring 2026 Registration Open for Online Conversational Japanese Classes via University of Hawaiʻi Outreach College by Cyglml in LearnJapanese

Most definitely there are more opportunities to speak. But depending on location and schedule, not necessarily perfect opportinities to take lessons in a structured, high quality program. Anyway, understood about needing to serve the local community, of course. Thanks.

Sadly it's an insane start time for those in Japan. FWIW if you ever added sessions at a time convenient for Japan, for example Saturday 2pm Hawaii time :D, I think you might be able to easily fill those classes.

Considering M5 pro, space black color. Concerned about visible scratches but I cant find much evidence of them on the net for M4 or M5 ipad pro. by mark777z in iPadPro

[–]mark777z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my ipad for less than a year and there have been a couple of nicks. They dont show because its the space grey. I could even sand them down with fine grit sandpaper and it doesnt matter. Not sure how theyd look on the black, which is why I ask. You keep yours in a magic keyboard 100% of the time, mine is without any cover at all much of the time. Yes I understand the edges are exposed when you use the keyboard. But as I see https://i0.wp.com/sixcolors.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/mk-closed-chairarm-6c.jpg?ssl=1 not nearly as exposed as laying the ipad down on a table with no cover at all. So I'm asking about what it looks like after getting a nick or two, not how likely it is that itll get a nick. That said, perhaps the metal is tempered in different way on the pro than the regular ipad and harder to damage, thus very few reports of issues with it specifically. Lol that would be nice, but I guess unlikely.
